She Abandoned Her Son When He Was Little… What Happened Next Changed Everything! – Ty
Kelvin, please forgive me. I know I failed you. I’ve come to ask for one last chance. ; A second chance. [sighs and gasps] ; I carried you for 9 months. I gave birth to you. No matter what happened, I’m still your mother. ; My mother? ; Yes, I’m your mother. ; Then where were you when I was burning with fever and begging you not to leave me alone? Kelvin, please.
; Where were you when every school holiday I sat alone with my little suitcase, watching every other child go home while I waited for you? ; I’m so sorry. ; I called you over and over again. You never answered. You abandoned me like I didn’t matter. Do you know how many nights I cried myself to sleep, wondering what I did wrong? ; I regret it every single day.
; Regret doesn’t give me back my childhood. Regret doesn’t erase the years I spent believing I wasn’t good enough for my own mother to love me. ; Please don’t say that. ; The only person who chose me, the only person who stayed, the only person who loved me without conditions was the man I proudly call dad.
; Lagos was a city that never seemed to sleep. Every morning the roads became crowded with buses, taxis, motorcycles, and people rushing to their different places of work. The sounds of car horns, street traders calling customers, and children getting ready for school filled the air from sunrise.
Among the millions of people trying to build a better future in the busy city was a beautiful, intelligent, and hardworking woman named Stella. She was in her early 30s and worked hard every single day to earn an honest living. Anyone who met Stella would immediately notice her confidence, neat appearance, and determination.
She had once been a cheerful woman who laughed easily and believed that life had many beautiful things waiting for her. She dreamed of getting married to the man she loved, building a happy home together, and raising children in an atmosphere filled with love and peace. For years, she believed those dreams were slowly coming true because she had fallen deeply in love with a charming young man who constantly promised that he would marry her.
He spoke sweet words that made her believe she had finally found the man she would spend the rest of her life with. Whenever they walked together along the streets of Lagos or sat together after work, he would hold her hands and say, “Stella, you are the only woman I want in my life. I can’t wait for the day I call you my wife.
” Stella would smile shyly and reply, “I trust you. I believe everything will work out for us.” Those promises made her believe that her future was secure. She gave him all her love, her trust, and her heart without holding anything back because she never imagined that someone she loved so deeply could one day become the source of her greatest pain.
A few months later, Stella noticed changes in her body. After visiting a nearby hospital for a medical checkup, the doctor smiled gently and said, “Congratulations, Stella. You are pregnant.” For a brief moment, Stella was shocked, but that feeling quickly turned into happiness. She immediately imagined telling the man she loved the good news.
She believed he would be excited because they had already talked many times about getting married and having children together. On her way home, she could not stop smiling. She held the medical report tightly in her handbag and imagined the beautiful future waiting ahead. That evening, she invited him to meet her at a quiet restaurant.
As soon as he arrived, she could hardly hide her excitement. “I have wonderful news,” she said with a bright smile. “We’re going to have a baby.” The smile on the man’s face disappeared instantly. He stared at her in complete silence before asking, “Are you serious?” Stella nodded happily. “Yes, I went to the hospital today. I’m pregnant.
” Instead of celebrating, the man stood up from his chair and began pacing around nervously. “This is not the right time,” he muttered. Stella looked at him in confusion. “What do you mean? We talked about getting married.” He avoided her eyes. “Stella, I can’t do this. I’m not ready to become a father.” Stella’s smile slowly disappeared.
“What are you saying? This is our child.” The man sighed heavily and shook his head. I’m sorry, but I can’t continue this relationship. Stella could hardly believe what she was hearing. Are you joking? Right? She asked, hoping he would laugh and tell her he was only teasing. Instead, he quietly replied, “I’m serious.
” Before Stella could stop him, he walked away, leaving her sitting alone with tears rolling down her face. That night became the beginning of the greatest heartbreak of her life. She called him repeatedly, but he refused to answer. She sent messages begging him to talk to her, but he ignored every one of them.
Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months. Eventually, she discovered that he had completely disappeared from her life. He changed his phone number, moved away, and cut off every means of communication. Stella suddenly found herself alone, carrying a pregnancy without the support of the man who had promised never to leave her.
The emotional pain was too much for her to bear. Every night she cried herself to sleep. Sometimes she would sit by her bedroom window looking into the darkness and whisper to herself, “Why did this happen to me? What did I do wrong?” She stopped trusting people and withdrew from friends who tried to comfort her.
Whenever anyone advised her to stay strong for the baby, she simply forced a smile. But deep inside, she felt broken. As the pregnancy grew, so did the bitterness in her heart. Instead of separating the innocent baby from the painful memories of betrayal, she unknowingly connected them together. Whenever she felt the baby kick inside her womb, she remembered the man who had abandoned her.
Whenever she attended hospital appointments alone and saw happy couples waiting together for medical checkups, her heart filled with sadness and anger. She blamed her unborn child for changing everything. She began believing that if she had never become pregnant, the man would never have left her.
Months later, Stella gave birth to a healthy baby boy in a Lagos hospital. The nurses congratulated her with warm smiles. One of them gently placed the newborn in her arms and said, “He’s such a beautiful baby.” Stella looked at the tiny child staring back at her with innocent eyes. Instead of feeling overwhelming joy, she felt emotional emptiness.
She named him Kelvin, but she struggled to love him the way a mother naturally should. She cared for him because he depended on her. But the deep affection that should have existed between mother and son never truly developed. As Kelvin grew from a baby into a toddler and later into a young boy, Stella worked tirelessly to provide for him.
She woke up early every morning, prepared for work, paid rent, bought groceries, and made sure there was food in the house. No one could accuse her of refusing to provide basic needs. However, while she fed his stomach, she starved his heart. She never hugged him when he cried. She never praised him when he did something good. She never kissed his forehead before bedtime or told him she loved him.
Every conversation between them seemed cold and distant. Whenever Kelvin accidentally broke a plate or spilled water on the floor, Stella’s anger immediately exploded. “Look at what you’ve done. Ever since you came into my life, nothing has gone right for me.” Kelvin would lower his head and quietly whisper, “I’m sorry, Mom.
” Instead of calming down, Stella would continue. “Sorry won’t change anything. Because of you, I lost the life I wanted. Because of you, I lost the man I loved.” Kelvin was too young to understand those words, but he heard them almost every day. As he grew older, he slowly began believing that he truly was the reason his mother suffered.
He stopped asking innocent questions because he feared making her angry. He stopped expecting birthday celebrations because they never came. At school, he often watched other children run happily into their mother’s arms after classes ended. Some mothers carried snacks for their children, hugs them tightly, and asked how their day was.
Kelvin quietly watched from a distance before following Stella home in silence whenever she came to pick him up. Their walk home was always quiet because he was afraid to speak unless spoken to. Sometimes he wished she would simply hold his hand or smile at him the way other mothers smiled at their children, but those moments never happened.
As home, he often sat alone in one corner of the small apartment, playing quietly with old toys, while Stella remained occupied with work or household chores. Even when he scored good marks in school, and proudly showed her his exercise books, hoping she would be pleased, Stella barely looked at them before saying, “Go and peep it.
That is what you’re supposed to do.” Those simple words crushed the little excitement in his heart. As the years passed, Kelvin became a quiet, gentle, and obedient child. He rarely complained, never argued, and always tried his best to avoid upsetting his mother because he desperately wanted her approval.
Unfortunately, nothing he did seemed good enough. Every mistake reminded Stella of the painful chapter she wanted to forget. Every time she looked at Kelvin, she remembered the broken promises, the lonely pregnancy, and the man who had walked away without looking back. Unknown to Stella, the bitterness she carried was slowly destroying the innocent boy standing before her.
Kelvin grew up believing that he was responsible for his mother’s sadness and that perhaps he did not deserve to be loved. While children around their Lagos neighborhood laughed freely, played football together, and enjoyed warm embraces from their parents, Kelvin lived with constant fear of disappointing the only parent he had. More than anything else, he longed to hear just three simple words from his mother. I love you.
Sadly, those words never came, and the emptiness inside his young heart continued to grow. The sun had barely risen over Lagos when Stella woke up to prepare for another busy day at work. Like every other weekday, she moved quickly around the small apartment, rushing from one room to another. She ironed her office clothes, packed her handbag, and checked the time again and again.
“Oh no, I’m already running late,” she said to herself as she hurried into the kitchen to make a quick cup of tea. The house was quiet and everything seemed normal until she heard a weak voice coming from Kelvin’s bedroom. “Mom,” the little boy called softly. Stella stopped for a moment before walking toward his room. She pushed the door open and found Kelvin lying on his bed.
His face looked pale and his eyes were half closed. He looked nothing like the cheerful little boy she usually knew. Stella frowned. “Kelvin, why are you still in bed? You should be getting ready for school, she said. Kelvin slowly turned his head toward her. His lips were dry and his voice sounded weak.
Mom, I don’t feel well, he whispered. My body hurts so much. My head feels very hot and I don’t think I can stand up. Stella folded her arms and shook her head. Kelvin, don’t start this again. You know, today is not the day to pretend. You have school and I have work. I don’t have time for excuses this morning.
Kelvin struggled to sit up, but he was too weak. Mom, I’m not pretending, he said quietly. Please touch my forehead. I think I have a fever. Stella looked at him for only a second before looking away. Children always say they are sick whenever they don’t want to go to school, she replied. You will be fine. Just get up after I leave and prepare yourself.
Tears gathered in Kelvin’s eyes. Mom, please don’t leave me alone. I feel scared. My whole body is shaking. Stella sighed loudly, already feeling annoyed. Kelvin, stop making things difficult for me. If I miss work today, who will pay our bills? You know, I cannot afford to stay at home because of every little complaint. Kelvin tried once more.
Please, Mom, just stay with me today. I don’t think I can even walk. Stella picked up her handbag and headed toward the door. Enough. I have heard you. If you get hungry later, go to the kitchen and prepare some breakfast for yourself. fry some eggs or make bread and tea. You are old enough to do that.
I’ll buy medicine tomorrow after work if you are still not feeling well. Calvin looked at his mother with disappointment. Tomorrow? He asked in a weak voice. Yes, Stella answered without looking back. Rest for a while. You will be fine. She opened the front door, stepped outside, locked it behind her, and hurried away toward the bus stop without realizing how sick her son truly was.
Inside the apartment, silence filled every corner. Kelvin lay on his bed, listening as the sound of his mother’s footsteps faded away. He felt so weak that even lifting his head was difficult. His body was burning with fever, and every part of him achd terribly. He pulled the blanket over himself, hoping it would make him feel better, but instead he started shivering.
“Mom,” he whispered to the empty room before closing his eyes. Hours slowly passed. The bright morning sun climbed higher into the sky. Kelvin remained alone in the apartment. His stomach began to rumble loudly. He had not eaten anything since the previous night. He knew he needed food, but standing up felt almost impossible. Slowly, he gathered the little strength he had left.
Holding tightly to the wall for support, he managed to get out of bed. Every step made him feel dizzy. The room seemed to spin around him, but he continued walking toward the kitchen. “I just need something to eat,” he whispered to himself. “Maybe I’ll feel better afterward.” When he finally reached the kitchen, he leaned against the table to catch his breath.
Sweat covered his face, even though his body was cold. He opened the refrigerator and found a few eggs. With trembling hands, he took them out and placed a frying pan on the gas cooker. ; [snorts] ; It took him several attempts before he could light the burner because his hands were shaking badly.
Finally, the blue flame appeared beneath the pan. Kelvin cracked the eggs into the hot pan. But as he stood there waiting for them to cook, his vision became blurry. He held his head with one hand. “Everything is spinning,” he murmured. Suddenly, a sharp wave of dizziness hit him. He grabbed the edge of the kitchen counter to stop himself from falling.
His breathing became heavy. “I don’t think I can do this,” he whispered. The smell of the frying eggs filled the kitchen, but Kelvin no longer had the strength to remain standing. His legs felt like they would give way at any moment. He looked toward his bedroom. “I’ll just lie down for a few minutes,” he said weakly.
“Then I’ll come back.” Without thinking, he slowly walked out of the kitchen, leaving the gas cooker switched on beneath the frying pan. He dragged his feet down the short hallway, struggling to keep his balance. By the time he reached his bedroom, he collapsed onto the bed without even removing his slippers.
Within seconds, he drifted into a restless sleep as the fever continued to burn through his body. Back in the kitchen, the eggs remained on the fire. After some time, they became burnt. Thick smoke began rising from the pan. The smoke slowly filled the kitchen before escaping through the open window. Outside their neighbor Jasinta was watering the flowers in front of her apartment.
She was known by everyone in the building as a kind and caring woman who always looked out for others. As she watered the plants, she suddenly noticed dark smoke coming from Stella’s kitchen window. She immediately stopped what she was doing. That’s strange, she said to herself. Stella should be at work by now.
She looked more carefully and saw that the smoke was getting thicker. Her heart immediately became troubled. Something is wrong,” she whispered. Without wasting another second, Jasa dropped the watering can and ran towards Stella’s apartment. She knocked loudly on the front door. “Kelvin!” she shouted. “Kelvin, are you inside?” There was no answer.
She knocked again, even harder this time. “Kelvin, open the door.” Still, there was only silence. The smoke continued pouring from the kitchen window. Fear filled Jasinta’s heart. “Oh no,” she cried. This is dangerous. Knowing she could not wait any longer, Jasinta pushed hard against the door. It refused to open. She stepped back, gathered all her strength, and forced the door open.
As soon as she entered the apartment, the smell of burnt food and smoke hit her face. She covered her nose with one hand and rushed straight into the kitchen. The frying pan was completely black and smoke filled the room. Without hesitation, she turned off the gas cooker and removed the burnt pan from the fire.
She quickly opened the windows to let fresh air inside before calling out again. “Kelvin!” she shouted. “Where are you?” She hurried from room to room until she reached the bedroom. There she found Kelvin lying helplessly on the bed. His face was red with fever and he was breathing heavily. Justinta gently touched his forehead.
She quickly pulled her hand away in shock. “My goodness,” she whispered. “He’s burning with fever.” Kelvin slowly opened his eyes. Auntie, he murmured weakly. Mom went to walk. Justinta’s eyes filled with worry. Don’t worry, my dear, she said softly as she stroked his hair. I’m here now. She realized immediately that this was far more serious than an ordinary fever.
She knew every minute mattered. Without wasting any time, Jasinta carefully lifted Kelvin into her arms. Though he was getting bigger, fear gave her the strength she needed to carry him out of the apartment as quickly as she could, locked the damaged door behind her as best as she could, and hurried toward the nearest hospital in Lagos.
The nurses rushed over the moment they saw the weak little boy in her arms. “Please help him,” Jasinta pleaded. “He has a very high fever.” The medical team immediately took Kelvin into the emergency room and began treating him without delay. Jasinta remained close by, refusing to leave. As the long night slowly settled over the city, she stayed faithfully beside Kelvin’s hospital bed, praying quietly and hoping with all her heart that the little boy would recover.
The following evening, Stella returned home from work, feeling tired after spending the whole day at the office. As she walked through the street toward her apartment, she carried a small handbag on one shoulder and a shopping bag in her hand. She was already thinking about taking a bath, eating dinner, and getting some rest before going back to work the next morning.
She believed everything at home would be exactly the way she had left it the previous day. She did not know that something had happened that would change the mood of the entire evening. As Stella reached the front of our apartment, she was surprised to see Justinta standing outside with Kelvin beside her. Kelvin looked weak and tired.
His face had lost its usual brightness, and he held a small paper bag that contained the medicine the hospital had given him. Justinta stood quietly beside him, waiting for Stella to arrive. The moment Stella saw them, she frowned in confusion. “Kelvin,” she asked, “why are you standing outside with Jinta? What is going on here?” Jinta looked at Stella with disappointment, written all over her face.
She took a deep breath before speaking. Kelvin and I have been waiting for you, she said calmly. We were discharged from the hospital earlier today. Stella’s eyes widened. Hospital? She asked. What hospital? Why was Kelvin in the hospital? Justinta looked at her in disbelief. You really don’t know? She asked. Stella shook her head.
Know what? I left him at home yesterday morning. I thought he was only pretending to avoid school. Justinta sighed deeply. Pretending? She repeated. Stella, your son was seriously sick. His fever was extremely high. When I saw thick smoke coming from your kitchen window yesterday, I knew something was wrong. I forced my way into your apartment because nobody answered the door.
I found the food burning on the cooker and the whole kitchen filled with smoke. Then I found Kelvin lying helplessly on his bed. His body was burning with fever. If I had arrived a little later, something terrible could have happened. Stella remained silent for a few seconds before asking.
So you took him to the hospital. Yes, Jasinta answered. I carried him there myself. The doctors treated him immediately. They said his fever was very high and that he needed urgent medical care. I stayed with him all night because there was nobody else to care for him. Stella looked at Kelvin for a brief moment before turning back to Jasinta.
“Well, thank you for helping him,” she said without much emotion. I’ll take care of him from here. Justinta stared in shock. She could not believe how calm Stella sounded after everything that had happened. Is that all you have to say? Justinta asked quietly. Stella frowned. What do you mean? Justinta folded her arms. Stella, I have to ask you something, and I want you to answer honestly.
How could you leave a child alone at home when you knew he was seriously sick? Stella immediately became uncomfortable. What are you talking about? Justinta yked directly into her eyes. Didn’t Kelvin tell you yesterday morning that he was sick? Stella hesitated before answering. Yes, he did. Did he ask you not to leave him alone? Stella sighed impatiently.
Yes, he did. Did he ask you to check his temperature? Jinta continued. Stella looked away before replying. He said he had a fever. Jasinta’s voice became stronger. Then why did you leave him alone? Why didn’t you take him to the hospital? Why didn’t you call someone to stay with him? He’s only a little boy.
He needed his mother. Stella suddenly became defensive. “Look, Jinta,” she said sharply. “I don’t you understand my situation. I had to go to work. Bills don’t pay themselves. I cannot miss work every time Kelvin says he doesn’t feel well.” Justinta could not believe what she was hearing.
This was not about missing one day of work. This was about saving your son’s life. He wasn’t pretending. He was dangerously ill. Stella folded her arms tightly across her chest. You are making this look bigger than it really was. Jasinta looked at her with tears of disappointment in her eyes. Bigger than it really was? Justinta repeated.
Stella, your kitchen was filled with smoke because Kelvin became too weak to finish cooking. He left the gas cooker on before collapsing onto his bed. If I hadn’t noticed the smoke, your apartment could have caught fire. The son could have died. Stella remained silent for a moment, but instead of feeling ashamed, anger slowly began to rise inside her.
“So now you want to blame everything on me?” she asked. Jasinta answered calmly. “I am not trying to blame you. I am trying to help you understand how serious this was. Children depend on their parents. They cannot protect themselves. Kelvin trusted you to take care of him.” Stella’s face became hard. “You have no right to lecture me about how to raise my child.
” Jinta remained calm. I am not trying to insult you. I’m only telling you the truth. Stella raised her voice. No, you are interfering in my family. This is none of your business. Jasinta took another deep breath. It became my business the moment I found your child lying helplessly with nobody to help him. Stella pointed her finger at Jinta.
I never asked you to get involved. Jasinta looked at Kelvin who stood quietly beside her with his head lowered. The little boy looked frightened by the argument. She turned back to Stella and spoke slowly. You know what hurts me the most? Kelvin is such a gentle and respectful child. He deserves love, care, and protection.
Every child deserves that. Stella laughed bitterly. So now you think I’m a bad mother. Jasinta did not answer immediately. She looked at Stella for a long moment before finally speaking. Stella, I never wanted to say this, but after everything I have seen, I have to be honest. You do not deserve such an innocent child because you have failed in your responsibility as his mother.
The words hit Stella like a slap across the face. Her eyes became filled with anger. “What did you just say?” she shouted. Jasinta stood her ground. “I said Kelvin deserves better. He deserves a mother who listens when he cries for help. He deserves someone who protects him instead of leaving him alone when he is sick.
” Stella could no longer control her temper. “How dare you speak to me like that?” she screamed. “Who do you think you are? Are you his mother?” Jasinta answered quietly. No, I am not his mother, but I am a human being and I could not watch a child suffer. Stella laughed sarcastically. If you care so much about him, then why don’t you take him away and raise him yourself? Since you think you can be a better mother than me, go ahead, take him.
Nobody is stopping you.” Kelvin looked up in shock when he heard those words. His eyes quickly filled with tears, but he remained silent. Jasinta looked at Stella sadly and gently placed her hand on his shoulder. “Take your medicine as the doctor instructed,” she said softly. Get plenty of rest. I will continue praying for you. Kelvin nodded weakly.
Thank you, Auntie Jasinta, he whispered. Jasinta smiled sadly at him before turning towards Stella one last time. I truly hope one day you understand what your son needs most, she said quietly. Without waiting for another reply, she slowly walked away from the apartment with a heavy heart.
Stella watched her leave with anger burning inside her. The moment Jasinta disappeared from sight, Stella turned toward Kelvin with an expression that made the little boy step back in fear. “So, this is what you’ve been doing?” Stella shouted. “You have turned the neighbors against me.” Kelvin quickly shook his head. “No, Mom.
I didn’t.” Stella caught him off immediately. “Be quiet. Because of you, everyone now thinks I’m a wicked mother. You have embarrassed me. You have made me look like a terrible person.” Kelvin lowered his head. “I’m sorry, Mom,” he whispered. Stella became even angrier. Sorry, that’s all you can say. You are always bringing shame into my life.
Every time I try to live in peace, you create another problem. Tears rolled down Kelvin’s cheeks. I didn’t mean to, he said softly. Stella refused to listen. You are such a troublesome child. Instead of making my life easier, you make everything harder. You are so ungrateful after everything I do for you.
Kelvin stood quietly without saying another word. He knew nothing he said would change her mother’s anger. Stella continued insulting him, calling him useless, stubborn, and a burden she was tired of carrying. Every painful word entered the little boy’s heart like a sharp knife. He simply stood there with tears running down his face because he had no strength left to defend himself.
His body was still weak from the illness, and now his heart felt even heavier than before. After Stella finally stopped shouting, Kelvin slowly turned around without saying another word. He quietly walked toward his bedroom, opened the door, and stepped inside. He gently closed the door behind him before sitting on the edge of his bed.
As the silence filled the room, the tears he had been holding back began to flow freely. He covered his face with both hands and cried alone, wishing with all his heart that he could experience the love, comfort, and gentle embrace that every child deserved. Several months passed after the painful incident that almost claimed Kelvin’s life.
The memory of that day slowly faded from the minds of the neighbors and life continued as usual. Stella returned to her daily routine of going to work early every morning and coming home late in the evening. Although she and Kelvin still lived in the same apartment, nothing had really changed between them. Stella remained distant and cold toward her son.
She provided food, paid his school fees, and bought the things he needed. But she hardly spent time talking to him or showing him the love every child deserved. Kelvin, on the other hand, had become very quiet. He no longer complained when he was lonely. He no longer asked his mother to spend time with him because he had learned that his words never changed anything.
Most evenings he sat quietly in his room, reading his books or staring through the window, hoping that one day his mother would smile at him the way he saw other mothers smile at their children. But that day never came. One Friday evening, Stella received a phone call while she was still at work.
She smiled brightly as she answered. “Hello, Michael,” she said happily. “Good evening.” The man on the other end laughed softly. “Good evening, Stella. Are you still working? Yes, Stella replied. I’m just about to leave the office. Good, Michael said. I have booked a table at a nice restaurant. I would love to have dinner with you tonight.
Stella’s face lit up with excitement. That sounds wonderful. I’ll meet you there. She ended the call with a smile that Stella had not seen on her face in a very long time. That evening, Stella carefully dressed in a beautiful outfit, applied her makeup, and admired herself in the mirror before leaving the apartment.
Kelvin watched quietly from the sitting room. “Mom,” he called softly. Stella turned toward him. “Yes.” “Will you be back early?” Kelvin asked. Stella picked up her handbag. “Don’t wait for me. There’s food in the kitchen. Lock the door before you sleep.” “Okay, Mom,” Kelvin answered quietly. Stella left without saying another word.
At the restaurant, Michael Johnson stood up immediately when Stella arrived. He was a handsome, wealthy businessman known for his success and confidence. He greeted Stella with a warm smile. “You look beautiful tonight,” he said. Stella smiled shily. “Thank you, Michael. You look handsome, too.
” Michael pulled out a chair for her. “Please sit.” Throughout the evening, they laughed, talked, and enjoyed each other’s company. Michael told Stella stories about his business trips, while Stella spoke about her work and her dreams for the future. As the weeks passed, their relationship grew stronger. They spent more time together, visited beautiful places, and spoke on the phone almost every day.
Stella felt happier than she had felt in years. She began to believe that life was finally giving her another chance to be happy. One evening, Michael invited Stella to a quiet garden after dinner. The place was peaceful with colorful flowers and soft lights shining around them. Stella looked around with surprise.
“This place is beautiful,” she said. Michael smiled warmly. “I wanted tonight to be special.” Stella looked at him curiously. “Special?” Michael nodded. He slowly reached into his jacket pocket and brought out a small box. Stella’s heart immediately began beating faster. Michael opened the box, revealing a beautiful engagement ring. He looked directly into Stella’s eyes and smiled. “Stella,” he said gently.
“These past months have been some of the happiest moments of my life. You are kind, hardworking, and beautiful. I want us to spend the rest of our lives together.” Stella covered her mouth with both hands as tears filled her eyes. Michael continued speaking. “Will you marry me?” Stella could hardly believe what she was hearing.
She smiled through her tears. “Yes,” she whispered. “Yes, Michael, I will marry you.” Michael gently placed the ring on her finger as they both smiled with excitement. Stella felt as if all her dreams were finally coming true. For the first time in many years, she believed happiness was within her reach.
They hugged each other, laughing with joy. After a few minutes, Michael’s expression slowly became serious. “Stella,” he said quietly. “There is something important we need to discuss before we begin planning the wedding.” Stella nodded. “Of course. What is it?” Michael took a deep breath. “I want us to be honest with each other from the beginning.” Stella smiled.
“I agree.” Michael looked directly at her. I know you have a son. Stella’s face faded slightly. Yes, she replied. Kelvin. Michael nodded slowly. I have thought about it very carefully. Stella waited quietly. Michael continued speaking. I love you, Stella. I truly do. But there is one condition. Stella’s heart became uneasy.
What condition? She asked. Michael spoke calmly. I have no intention of raising another man’s son. Stella remained silent. Michael continued speaking before she could respond. When we get married, I want us to start our own family. I don’t want another man’s son living under the same roof with us. Stella stared at him without saying anything.
Michael gently held her hand. I hope you understand. This is something I have decided long ago. I cannot change my mind. Stella swallowed hard. “So, what are you saying?” Michael answered without hesitation. Kelvin cannot live with us after our wedding. Stella lowered her head. For a few moments, neither of them spoke.
She knew she was standing before a difficult decision. On one side was her only child. On the other side was the future she had always dreamed about. a wealthy husband, a beautiful home, financial security, and the happy life she believed she deserved. Michael gently squeezed her hand. “I’m not asking you to stop loving him,” he said.
“I’m only saying he cannot live in our home.” Stella remained quiet as many thoughts filled her mind. Finally, she looked up and forced a small smile. “I understand,” she said softly. Michael smiled with relief. Thank you for understanding. Stella nodded slowly, even though something deep inside her knew she was making a selfish choice.
A few days later, Stella sat alone in her living room while Kelvin quietly did his homework nearby. She looked at him for several moments before speaking. “Kelvin?” The little boy immediately looked up. “Yes, Mom.” Stella cleared her throat. “I have been thinking about your education.” Kelvin smiled a little. Okay. Stella continued.
I want you to attend a better school. Kelvin’s face brightened. Really? Stella nodded. Yes. I have found a very good boarding school. The teachers are excellent and you will receive a better education there. Kelvin looked confused. Barding school? Stella smiled faintly. Yes. Kelvin hesitated before asking. Does that mean I won’t live here anymore? Stella looked away.
You will stay at the school during the term and come home during holidays. Kelvin became quiet. But I’ll miss you. Stella forced another smile. You’ll make new friends. You’ll enjoy it. Kelvin slowly nodded because he trusted his mother. If you think it’s the best, then I’ll try. Stella stood up quickly. Good.
I’ll begin the admission process tomorrow. Within a short time, Stella completed the registration, paid the school fees, bought new uniforms, books, and a small suitcase for Kelvin. On the day she took him to the boarding school, Kelvin looked around the large campus with nervous eyes. Many students were arriving with their parents.
Some children cried as they hugged their mothers, while others smiled excitedly. Stella finished signing the necessary documents before turning to Kelvin. Study hard, she said. Kelvin nodded. I will, Mom. He looked at her hopefully. Will you visit me soon? Stella adjusted her handbag. We’ll see. Just behave yourself. Kelvin smiled weakly. Okay.
Stella gave him a quick pat on the shoulder before walking away. Kelvin stood there watching her leave until her car disappeared through the school gate. He took a deep breath and slowly walked toward his host. As the weeks passed, Kelvin tried his best to adjust to life in boarding school.
He attended classes, completed his assignments, and obeyed his teachers. Other students often received visits from their parents on visiting days. They laughed together, shared food, took photographs, and spent precious time together before saying goodbye. Kelvin always waited hopefully, believing his mother would surely come too.
Every visiting day, he dressed neatly and watched every car that entered the school compound. But Stella never came. She became busy with her new relationship and only remembered Kelvin when it was absolutely necessary. She paid his school fees on time, but she rarely visited him. Days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months.
Then the school time finally came to an end. The atmosphere around the school became full of excitement. Parents arrived from different places to pick their children for the holidays. The compound was filled with laughter, hugs, and joyful conversations. Children happily ran into the arms of their mothers and fathers.
Some parents carried their children’s bags while others promised to prepare their favorite meals at home. Kelvin packed his few belongings into his small suitcase and carried it outside. He sat quietly on a bench near the school gate, smiling each time a car entered because he believed his mother would surely come this time.
One family after another left the school. The compound slowly became quieter. The happy voices became fewer. Students who had once filled the host disappeared one after another as they left with their families. Kelvin continued waiting with his small suitcase beside him. He looked toward the gate every few minutes, hoping to see Stella’s face. The afternoon passed.
The sun slowly began to set. More parents drove away with their children until the school compound was almost empty. Kelvin remained seated alone with his small suitcase resting beside him. Every holiday, he waited with hope that his mother would finally arrive, but she never did.
The repeated disappointment slowly convinced him that he truly had no place in his mother’s heart, leaving him feeling abandoned, even though his mother was still alive. The school compound was almost completely empty. Just a few hours earlier, it had been filled with laughter, excited voices, parents hugging their children, and vehicles driving in and out of the school gates.
Now, the once lively environment had become quiet. Most of the hostel doors were locked. The classrooms were empty and only a few teachers remained on the school grounds to complete some end of term duties before leaving for their own homes. Inside one of the boys host, Kelvin sat alone on the edge of his small bed. His old suitcase rested beside him exactly where he had placed it that morning.
He had not unpacked it because he still believed that at any moment his mother might arrive to take him home. Every time he heard the sound of a car outside, his heart jumped with hope. But each time he looked through the hostile window, the car belonged to someone else. As the hours slowly passed, that hope became weaker.
Kelvin lowered his head and sighed deeply. His stomach rumbled because he had barely eaten anything all day. The disappointment in his heart had taken away his appetite. He quietly wiped away the tears gathering in his eyes before lying down on his bed. His body felt weak, and his forehead was becoming warm. He closed his eyes, trying to sleep, but the silence inside the empty hostel only made him feel even lonier.
A few minutes later, Mr. David, one of the school’s most respected teachers, walked through the hostel building to make one final inspection before going home. He was a kind man who genuinely cared about every student under his supervision. As he checked each room, he noticed that one door was slightly open. Curious, he pushed it gently and looked inside.
His eyes immediately fell on Kelvin sitting quietly on his bed. Mr. David frowned in surprise. “Kelvin,” he called gently. The little boy quickly stood up. “Good afternoon, sir,” he said politely. Mr. David smiled kindly. “Good afternoon, my boy. What are you still doing here? Didn’t your parents come to pick you up?” Kelvin lowered his eyes without answering immediately. Mr.
David noticed the sadness on the boy’s face. “Kelvin,” he asked softly. “Is everything all right?” Kelvin forced a small smile that could not hide his pain. “Yes, sir.” Mr. David slowly walked into the room. “If everything is all right, then why are you still here? Every other student has already gone home.
” Kelvin remained silent for a few moments before speaking in a weak voice. “My mother, she didn’t come.” “Mr. David looked confused. “Maybe she is running late,” he said kindly. Kelvin slowly shook his head. “No, sir. Did she call the school?” Mr. David asked. Kelvin shook his head again. No, sir. Mr. David pulled a chair closer and sat beside him.
Tell me the truth, Kelvin. Has this happened before? Kelvin nodded slowly. Yes, sir. Mr. David looked surprised. Before? Kelvin’s eyes became watery. Every holiday I wait for her. Every holiday I hope she will come, but she never comes. Mr. David’s heart became heavy. Doesn’t anyone else come for you? An uncle, an aunt, your grandparents? Kelvin quietly replied, “No, sir. I don’t have anyone else.” Mr.
David looked at the little boy with deep concern. “Have you tried calling your mother?” Kelvin nodded. “Many times.” “Did she answer?” Mr. David asked. Kelvin slowly shook his head. “Sometimes she doesn’t answer. Sometimes she rejects the call.” “Mr. David sighed deeply. He could hardly believe what he was hearing.
” He gently placed his hand on Kelvin’s shoulder. “Have you eaten today?” Kelvin looked down. Not really, sir. Why? Mr. David asked. Kelvin answered quietly. I wasn’t hungry. But Mr. David knew that was not the real reason. He could clearly see that the little boy was heartbroken. As they spoke, Mr. David noticed that Kelvin’s face looked unusually pale.
He gently touched Kelvin’s forehead. “You’re warm,” he said with concern. “Are you feeling all right?” Kelvin tried to smile. “I’m fine, sir.” Mr. David shook his head. “No, you’re not. You look tired and your body feels hot. Kelvin quietly admitted, “I’ve been feeling weak since this morning.” Mr. David immediately became worried.
He stood up and looked around the almost empty hostel. There was no way he could leave this little boy behind. The school would soon close completely for the holiday, and Kelvin had nowhere to go. He made up his mind at once. “Kelvin,” he said kindly. “Pack your things.” Kelvin looked surprised. “Sir.” Mr. David smiled warmly.
You’re coming home with me?” Kelvin stared at him in disbelief. “You’re home?” he asked quietly. “Yes,” Mr. David answered. “I cannot leave you here all by yourself.” Tears immediately filled Kelvin’s eyes. Nobody had spoken to him with such kindness in a long time. “Thank you, sir,” he whispered. Mr. David smiled gently.
“Come on, let’s go.” Kelvin picked up his small suitcase while Mr. David carried his school bag. Together, they walked out of the empty hostel and headed toward the teacher’s car. During the drive home, Mr. David occasionally looked at Kelvin through the rear view mirror. The little boy sat quietly, holding his suitcase tightly on his lap.
He barely spoke throughout the journey. Mr. David could only imagine how lonely he must have felt after spending another holiday waiting for a mother who never came. After some time, they finally arrived at Mr. David’s house. It was a neat and peaceful home with a small garden in front. As soon as the car stopped, the front door opened and Mr.
David’s wife walked outside with a smile. Mrs. Sarah was a gentle woman known for her warm heart. She smiled at her husband before noticing the young boy standing beside him. Her smile slowly changed into curiosity. “Welcome home,” she said. “Thank you, Mr. David replied.” Mrs. Sarah looked at Kelvin. Who is this young boy? She asked kindly.
Kelvin politely greeted her. Good evening, Ma. Mrs. Sarah smiled warmly. Good evening, my dear. She looked back at her husband. David, who is he? Mr. David sighed gently. His name is Kelvin. He is one of my students. Mrs. Sarah looked confused. Why did you bring him home? Mr. David looked at Kelvin before turning back to his wife.
It’s a long story. Mrs. Sarah immediately noticed the sadness on Kelvin’s face. “Come inside first,” she said kindly. “You both must be tired. They entered the house together.” Mrs. Sarah served them food and a cold drink before sitting opposite her husband. “Now tell me what happened,” she said softly. Mr. David carefully explained everything from the beginning.
He told her how he had found Kelvin sitting alone inside the empty host after every other student had gone home. He explained that Kelvin’s mother never came to pick him up during holidays and that the little boy had nowhere else to go. As she listened, Mrs. Sarah’s eyes slowly filled with tears. She looked at Kelvin with deep sympathy.
Is everything he said true? She asked gently. Kelvin quietly nodded. “Yes, ma.” Mrs. Sarah’s heart broke. “Oh, my dear child,” she whispered. She reached across the table and gently held his hand. You don’t have to be afraid while you’re here. Kelvin looked at her with grateful eyes. Thank you, Ma. Mr. David leaned back in his chair.
We need to contact his mother immediately. Mrs. Sarah nodded. Yes, maybe she doesn’t know the school has closed. Mr. David quickly collected Kelvin’s school file where Stella’s phone number was written. He picked up his phone and dialed the number. It rang several times before stopping. There was no answer.
He tried again. Still no answer. Mrs. Sarah frowned. Try once more. Mr. David called again. This time the call was rejected almost immediately. He looked at the phone in surprise. She rejected the call. Mrs. Sarah looked confused. Maybe she doesn’t recognize the number. Mr. David nodded. Let’s try again. He called several more times throughout the evening, but every single call was either ignored or rejected. Mrs.
Sarah sighed deeply. “How can a mother ignore calls when her child is waiting for her?” she asked sadly. Mr. David shook his head. “I don’t understand.” The following morning, Mr. David decided not to give up. “Maybe there has been some misunderstanding,” he said. “I’ll take Kelvin to the address listed in the school records.
Perhaps something happened.” Mrs. Sarah agreed. Yes, that would be the right thing to do. After breakfast, Mr. David and Kelvin got into the car and drove to the address recorded in the school file. When they finally arrived, Mr. David looked around in confusion. The apartment looked different from the description in the file.
He knocked on the door and after a few moments, a woman opened it. “Good morning,” Mr. David said politely. “Please, does Stella live here?” The woman shook her head. “No.” Mr. David looked surprised. “Are you sure?” “Yes,” the woman replied. She moved away some time ago. Mr. David frowned. Do you know where she moved to? The woman shook her head again.
No, she left without telling anyone where she was going. Mr. David thanked her and slowly returned to the car. Kelvin looked at him with hopeful eyes. And Kelvin looked at him with hopeful eyes. “Did you find my mother?” he asked quietly. Mr. David forced a gentle smile, although his heart was heavy. No, my boy.
Kelvin lowered his head once again. He did not cry. He simply looked out of the window as if he had expected that answer all along. Mr. David drove away slowly, his mind filled with worry. He had tried to call Stella, but every call was ignored or rejected. Now he had gone to the address listed by the school only to discover that she had moved away without leaving any forwarding address.
There was nowhere else to search and there was no one else to contact. Realizing that Kelvin had nowhere to go, Mr. David quietly made another difficult decision, he turned the car around and drove back to his own house with Kelvin beside him, completely unaware that this simple act of compassion would soon create serious tension within his own marriage and forever change both their lives. Mr.
David drove quietly back to his house with Kelvin sitting beside him. The journey was silent. Kelvin stared through the car window without saying a word. He had already guessed what had happened before Mr. David even spoke. The look on his teacher’s face told him everything. There was no sign of hope anymore. Stella had disappeared without leaving any address behind.
She had ignored every phone call. And now even the home address in the school records was no longer hers. Mr. David tightened his hands on the steering wheel and sighed deeply. His heart felt heavy. He had done everything he could to find Kelvin’s mother, but every effort had failed. After a while, Kelvin quietly broke the silence.
“Sir,” he said softly. Mr. David looked at him with kindness. “Yes, Kelvin.” The little boy lowered his eyes. “Thank you for trying to find my mother.” Mr. David smiled sadly. You don’t have to thank me, my boy. I only wanted to do the right thing. Kelvin forced a small smile. I know, sir. They continued driving until they finally arrived at Mr. David’s house.
As the car stopped, Mrs. Sarah opened the front door after hearing the sound of the engine. At first, she smiled, expecting her husband to return alone with good news. But the moment she saw Kelvin stepping out of the car with his small suitcase, her smile slowly disappeared. She looked at her husband with surprise.
David, she called. You are back. Yes, he answered [snorts] quietly. Mrs. Sarah looked at Kelvin before turning back to her husband. What happened? Did you find his mother? Mr. David slowly shook his head. No, she moved away. Mrs. Sarah frowned. Moved away? Yes, Mr. David replied. The people living there said she left some time ago.
She didn’t leave any forwarding address. Mrs. Sarah became silent. She looked at Kelvin standing quietly with his head lowered. After a few seconds, she stepped aside to allow them inside the house. “Come in,” she said softly. They entered the living room, but the atmosphere felt very different from the previous day. The house no longer felt peaceful. Mrs.
Sarah quietly watched as her husband helped Kelvin place his suitcase in the guest room. She said nothing, but many thoughts filled her mind. During dinner that evening, nobody spoke much. Kelvin politely thanked Mrs. Sarah for the food before eating quietly. Mr. David tried to start a conversation, but his wife only gave short answers.
After the meal, Kelvin excused himself and went to the guest room to sleep. As soon as the bedroom door closed, Mrs. Sarah looked directly at her husband. David, she said calmly. “We need to talk.” Mr. David nodded. “Of course.” They both sat in the living room. For a few moments, neither of them spoke. Finally, Mrs. Sarah broke the silence.
How long is Kelvin going to stay here?” she asked. Mr. David sighed. I honestly don’t know. Mrs. Sarah looked at him carefully. What do you mean you don’t know? Mr. David answered honestly. His mother cannot be found. I cannot leave him alone. He has nowhere else to go. Mrs. Sarah folded her arms.
David, I understand that you feel sorry for him. I felt sorry for him, too. But this situation is becoming strange. Mr. David looked confused. Strange? Yes, she replied. You are becoming too involved. Mr. David frowned. Sarah, he’s only a child. Mrs. Sarah continued speaking. Tell me something honestly. Are there no other teachers in your school? Mr.
David looked surprised. Of course, there are. Then why are you the only one carrying this burden? Why are you the one bringing him into our home? Why does it seem like this child has suddenly become your responsibility? Mr. David remained calm. Because I was the one who found him sitting alone in the hostel after everyone had left.
I couldn’t simply walk away. Mrs. Sarah had her head. No, David. I don’t believe that’s the whole story. Mr. David stared at her. What are you trying to say? Mrs. Sarah looked directly into his eyes. I’m asking the question everyone would ask. Mr. David remained silent. Mrs. Sarah continued, “Is Kelvin really just your student?” Mr. David looked shocked. “What?” Mrs.
Sarah spoke slowly. Is he secretly your biological son? Mr. David immediately stood up. Sarah, how can you even ask me such a question? Mrs. Sarah also stood up. Because nothing about this situation makes any sense. You have never brought any other student into this house. Why this one? Mr.
David shook his head in disbelief. Because he had nowhere else to go. Mrs. Sarah continued, “Or maybe you knew his mother before now.” Mr. David stared at her without speaking. Mrs. Sarah took a deep breath before asking the question that had been troubling her heart. Tell me the truth. Did you once have a relationship with Kelvin’s mother? Mr.
David could hardly believe his ears. Sarah, what are you saying? Answer me, she cried. Did you have a relationship with Stella? Mr. David quickly replied. No. Are you sure? She asked. I’m completely sure, he answered firmly. I have never met Stella in my life. I only know her name because it appears in the school records. Whenever school fees were paid, her name appeared in the documents.
That is the only connection I have with her. Mrs. Sarah looked unconvinced. Then why are you risking so much for this child? Mr. David sighed deeply. Because he is innocent. He paused before continuing. Sarah, please listen to me. This little boy has done nothing wrong. His mother abandoned him. I cannot abandon him too.
Mrs. Sarah shook her head slowly. I don’t believe you. Mr. David looked heartbroken. After all these years of marriage, you don’t trust me. Mrs. Sarah answered honestly. Right now, I don’t know what to believe. From that day forward, peace slowly disappeared from their home. Every small discussion turned into an argument. Every time Mr.
David bought clothes for Kelvin or helped him with his homework. Mrs. Sarah became more suspicious. She watched everything he did and questioned every decision he made. One evening, she said, “David, you smile more when you’re talking to Kelvin than when you’re talking to me.” Mr. David sighed, “Sarah, please stop saying things like this.
” Another day, she asked, “If another student had been abandoned, would you have brought him home, too?” Mr. David answered without hesitation, “Yes, I would have.” But his answer did not satisfy her. The arguments became more frequent. Sometimes they spoke loudly enough for Kelvin to hear them from his bedroom. Each time he heard them arguing because of him, he quietly covered his ears and cried.
He blamed himself for the problems in their marriage, even though he had done nothing wrong. One evening, Kelvin slowly walked into the living room after another argument. Sir,” he said quietly. Mr. David looked at him. “Yes, Kelvin.” Tears filled the little boy’s eyes. “Maybe, maybe I should leave.” Mr. David immediately shook his head. “No.
” Kelvin looked down. “I don’t want to destroy your family.” Mr. David gently placed both hands on the boy’s shoulders. “Listen to me carefully. None of this is your fault. Do you understand?” Kelvin nodded weakly. Yes, sir. Mr. David smiled gently. You are not responsible for the decisions adults make. Kelvin quietly returned to his room, but the sadness remained in his heart.
Days turned into weeks, and the tension inside the house only grew worse. Mrs. Sarah could no longer hide her pain and suspicion. One morning, after another painful argument, she quietly walked into their bedroom and brought out a large suitcase. Mr. Mr. David looked at her with surprise. Sarah, what are you doing? She calmly folded her clothes and placed them inside the suitcase.
I’m leaving. Mr. David quickly stood up. Leaving? She nodded. Yes. Please don’t do this. He begged. We can talk. Mrs. Sarah shook her head. We have talked enough. Mr. David walked closer to her. Sarah, please believe me. I have told you the truth from the beginning. I have never had any relationship with Stella.
Kelvin is not my biological son. Mrs. Sarah continued packing. I can’t live like this anymore. Mr. David’s voice trembled. Please don’t throw away our marriage because of something that isn’t true. Mrs. Sarah stopped for a moment, tears filling her eyes. Maybe you are telling the truth. Or maybe you are not.
But I can no longer live with these doubts in my heart. She closed her suitcase and picked it up. Mr. David followed her to the front door. Sarah, please stay. She slowly shook her head. Goodbye, David. Without looking back, she walked out of the house. Mr. David stood at the doorway, watching the woman he loved disappeared down the street.
His heart felt completely broken. He had lost his marriage, not because of betrayal, but because suspicion had destroyed the trust between them. behind him. Kelvin quietly stood in the hallway with tears running down his face. “I’m sorry, sir,” he whispered. “Mr. David quickly turned around and walked toward him. He gently hugged the little boy.
” “No, Kelvin,” he said softly. “You have nothing to apologize for.” Kelvin cried quietly. “She left because of me.” Mr. David gently wiped the tears from the boy’s face. “No, she left because she chose not to believe me. None of this is your fault. Mr. David looked into Kelvin’s eyes and made a decision that would change both of their lives forever.
Although his marriage had ended, he refused to abandon the little boy the way Stella had done. From today, he said gently, “You will never have to wonder if someone cares about you. As long as I am alive, you will always have a home.” Kelvin looked at him with tears of gratitude. From that day forward, Mr. David accepted the responsibility of raising Kelvin as his own son.
He enrolled him in one of the best schools in Lagos, made sure he had everything he needed, and gave him a safe and comfortable home. Every morning, they ate breakfast together before school. Every evening, Mr. David helped him with his homework and encouraged him to walk hard.
He taught Kelvin to be honest even when it was difficult, to respect everyone, to show compassion to those in need, and to never give up no matter how hard life became. He attended every school event, proudly applauded during every prize-giving ceremony, celebrated every birthday with cakes and gifts, and made sure Kelvin never felt forgotten again.
Slowly, the fear and sadness that had filled the little boy’s heart began to disappear. For the first time in his life, Kelvin experienced what it truly felt like to have someone who genuinely cared whether he smiled, ate well, slept peacefully, and felt loved every single day. Many years passed and life slowly changed for Kelvin.
The little boy who had once sat alone in an empty boarding school with a small suitcase beside him had now grown into a handsome, intelligent, and responsible young man. The pain of his childhood had made him stronger instead of weaker. Under the loving care, guidance, and discipline of Mr.
David, Kelvin grew into the kind of man every parent would be proud of. Mr. David never stopped encouraging him to work hard, stay humble, and always do what was right. Every lesson he taught Kelvin became part of the young man’s character. As the years went by, Kelvin excelled in every class. His teachers admired him because he was respectful and hardworking.
His classmates liked him because he was kind and never looked down on anyone. Whenever another student struggled with schoolwork, Kelvin gladly helped without expecting anything in return. At home, he treated Mr. David with great respect. Although Mr. David was not his biological father. Kelvin never saw him as anything less than his real dad.
Every morning before leaving for school, he would smile and say, “Good morning, Dad.” Every evening when he returned, he would ask, “Dad, how was your day?” Those simple words always filled Mr. David’s heart with joy because they reminded him that choosing to care for Kelvin had been the best decision of his life. Eventually, Kelvin completed secondary school with excellent grades.
On the day the results were released, he rushed home carrying the result sheet with excitement written all over his face. “Dad!” he shouted happily as he entered the house. Mr. David looked up from the newspaper he was reading. “Kelvin, what happened?” Kelvin handed him the paper with trembling hands. “My results are out.” Mr.
Sir David carefully looked through the result sheet. As he read each subject, a proud smile slowly appeared on his face. “Excellent,” he said. “You passed every subject with outstanding grades.” Kelvin smiled. “Thank you, Dad.” Mr. David stood up and hugged him tightly. “No, son. You earned this through your hard work.” Tears of happiness filled both their eyes. Mr.
David whispered softly, “I have always believed in you.” Kelvin smiled through his tears. “Everything I am today is because of you.” Mr. David gently shook his head. “No, I only showed you the path. You chose to walk on it.” Soon afterward, Kelvin gained admission into a good university in Lagos.
Just as he had done in secondary school, he worked hard and remained focused. While many students wasted their time, Kelvin spent long hours studying in the library. His lecturers respected him because he was serious about his education. His classmates admired his intelligence, but also loved his humility because he never boasted about his achievements.
Whenever group assignments were given, everyone wanted Kelvin on their team because they knew he would contribute his best. Several years later, Kelvin graduated with excellent results. On graduation day, Mr. David proudly sat among the guests, watching the young man receive his certificate. As Kelvin walked across the stage, the audience applauded loudly. Mr.
David clapped with tears running down his cheeks. “That’s my son,” he whispered proudly. After the ceremony, Kelvin walked straight to Mr. David and handed him the certificate. “Dad,” he said with emotion. “This belongs to you as much as it belongs to me.” Mr. David smiled warmly. “No, son. You worked for it.” Kelvin shook his head.
“Without you, I would never have reached this day.” They embraced each other while photographers captured the beautiful moment. A few months after graduation, Kelvin applied for several jobs. Because of his excellent academic record and impressive character, he was soon offered a position at one of the most respected companies in Lagos.
On his first day at work, he arrived early, dressed neatly in a welloned suit. He greeted everyone politely and immediately impressed his supervisors with his professionalism. As the months passed, Kelvin continued proving himself. He worked harder than anyone expected. He never arrived late to work, never missed important deadlines, and always completed every assignment with great attention to detail.
Whenever his colleagues faced difficult tasks, Kelvin willingly helped them without complaining. His honesty quickly became wellknown throughout the company. If he made a mistake, he admitted it immediately instead of blaming someone else. If he found something that did not belong to him, he returned it without hesitation.
Because of this, both his employers and colleagues respected him deeply. During one management meeting, the company’s director looked around the conference room before speaking. We have an important project, he said. It requires someone we can completely trust. Another manager immediately replied, “Kelvin is the right person.” The director nodded.
I was thinking the same thing. One of the senior staff members smiled. Whenever there’s a difficult assignment, Kelvin never disappoints us. Another manager added, “He is intelligent, honest, and hardworking. If Kelvin is handling the project, we can sleep peacefully.” From that day forward, Kelvin became the first person management thought of whenever important responsibilities came up.
Every assignment he handled ended successfully because he always gave his very best. His reputation continued growing both inside and outside the company. People admired him not only because he was successful, but because he remained humble despite his achievements. Even after becoming financially comfortable, Kelvin never forgot Mr. David.
Every month, he made sure the house was well-maintained. He bought groceries, paid bills, and often surprised Mr. David with thoughtful gifts. Sometimes he would come home carrying shopping bags. “Dad,” he would say with his smile, “I brought your favorite fruits.” Mr. David would laugh happily. “You spoil me too much.” Kelvin would smile.
“You deserve every good thing.” Although Kelvin’s career was flourishing, there was one part of his life that remained empty. Many young women admired him because he was handsome, respectful, successful, and kind. Some smiled whenever they saw him at work. Others tried to start conversations with him during office events.
A few even found polite excuses to spend time with him. But Kelvin always remained respectful while keeping his distance. One afternoon during lunch break, one of his colleagues named Grace smiled at him. Kelvin, she said, “Would you like to have lunch together?” Kelvin smiled politely. “Thank you, Grace, but I have some work to finish.
” “Maybe another day,” she asked hopefully. Kelvin nodded politely. “Perhaps.” But another day never came. On another occasion, one of his friends asked him, “Kelvin, why don’t you ever date anyone?” Kelvin smiled faintly. “I’m not interested.” His friend laughed. Come on, there are many beautiful women who like you.
Kelvin simply replied, I’m happier focusing on my work. The truth, however, was very different. Deep inside his heart, Kelvin was afraid. The painful memories of his childhood still inside him. He remembered how his own mother had chosen another man over him. He remembered waiting alone every holiday while other children went home with loving parents.
He remembered feeling unwanted and forgotten. Because of those painful experiences, he convinced himself that love only brought pain, disappointment, and betrayal. Instead of opening his heart, he built invisible walls around it. Mr. David quietly noticed this change. As the years passed, he watched Kelvin politely avoid every woman who showed interest in him.
At first, he thought the young man simply wanted to focus on building his career. But when year after year passed without any interest in relationships, Mr. David became worried. One evening during dinner, he smiled and asked, “Kelvin, have you met anyone special?” Kelvin laughed softly. “No, Dad.” Mr. David smiled. There must be someone. Kelvin shook his head. Not really.
Why? Mr. David asked gently. Kelvin looked down at his plate. I don’t think relationships are for me. Mr. David became concerned. Why would you say that? Kelvin forced a smile. I’m happier the way I am. Mr. David looked carefully at his son, but decided not to pressure him. However, the elderly teacher could not stop worrying.
Those old wounds are still hurting him, he thought to himself. He smiles on the outside, but inside he is still carrying the pain of being abandoned. Weeks later, Mr. David made a decision. He wanted to make sure there was no hidden medical problem causing Kelvin’s lack of interest in relationships. He knew Kelvin would never agree to such a test if he asked directly.
After thinking carefully, he came up with a harmless plan. One Saturday afternoon, while Kelvin was relaxing at home after cleaning the compound, he suddenly heard Mr. David calling from the sitting room. Kelvin, the older man cried out weakly. Kelvin immediately dropped what he was doing and ran inside. “Dad,” he shouted with fear. He found Mr.
David sitting on the sofa, holding his chest and breathing heavily. “Dad, what’s wrong?” Kelvin asked anxiously. Mr. David pretended to struggle for breath. “I I I don’t feel well.” Kelvin’s face turned pale. Don’t worry, I’ll get you to the hospital immediately. Without wasting a single second, he helped Mr.
David into the car and drove as fast as he safely could to a nearby hospital. As soon as they arrived, Kelvin jumped out of the car and shouted, “Please help. My father is very sick.” Nurses quickly rushed over with a wheelchair. Kelvin stayed beside Mr. David the entire time, holding his hand tightly.
Dad, everything will be all right, he said nervously. You’re going to be okay. Mr. David smiled weakly but said nothing. After they were taken into the consultation area, Mr. David quietly requested to speak to the doctor alone for a moment. Kelvin waited outside, pacing up and down with worry. Inside the consultation room, Mr.
David smiled apologetically at the doctor. “Doctor,” he said softly. “I’m sorry for deceiving everyone. I’m not actually sick. The doctor looked surprised. You’re not? Mr. David shook his head. No, I only pretended because I wanted to bring my son here. The doctor looked confused. Why? Mr. David sighed deeply. My son refuses to have any relationship with women.
I’m afraid something might be wrong with his health, but he would never agree to come for a medical examination. Please examine him completely. If there is any health problem, I want to know so we can help him. The doctor nodded with understanding. I see. A few minutes later, the doctor invited Kelvin into the examination room.
Your father is feeling much better, he said kindly. Since you’re already here, I’d also like to carry out a routine medical examination on you. It won’t take long. Kelvin looked surprised. Me? The doctor smiled. Yes, just a normal checkup. Wanting to cooperate, Kelvin agreed. The doctor carefully carried out a complete medical examination.
After everything was finished, he reviewed the results with great care. “Finally, he smiled warmly at Mr. David. “You can relax,” he said kindly. “Your son is perfectly healthy in every way. There is absolutely nothing physically wrong with him.” “Relief immediately filled Mr. David’s heart.” He smiled gratefully. Thank you, doctor.
As they prepared to leave the hospital, Mr. David quietly reflected on everything he had learned. Now he understood the truth. Kelvin’s greatest challenge was not hidden inside his body, but deep inside his heart. The wounds left by Stella’s rejection had never truly healed. Those painful memories had quietly imprisoned his emotions for many years.
Looking at the young man he loved as his own son, Mr. David silently made another promise to himself. Somehow, no matter how long it took, he would help Kelvin overcome the painful memories that had kept his heart locked away for so many years. After leaving the hospital, Kelvin drove Mr. David home with a heart full of relief.
Throughout the journey, he kept asking, “Gad, are you sure you are feeling better now?” Mr. David smiled warmly and nodded. “Yes, my son. I’m feeling much better.” Kelvin sighed with relief. “You really frightened me today. I thought I was going to lose you.” Mr. David looked at the young man beside him and smiled quietly.
The love and concern Kelvin had shown at the hospital touched his heart deeply. When they arrived home, Kelvin helped Mr. David into the sitting room before bringing him a glass of water. “Please rest,” Kelvin said. “I’ll prepare something light for you to eat.” Mr. David nodded. “Thank you, son.” A few minutes later, Kelvin returned with a tray containing warm tea and some bread.
He carefully placed it on the table before sitting opposite Mr. David. The elderly teacher looked at him for a few moments before speaking. Kelvin, he said gently. Can we talk? Kelvin smiled. Of course, Dad. Mr. David took a deep breath. There is something I have wanted to discuss with you for a very long time. Kelvin nodded. I’m listening. Mr.
David looked directly into his eyes. You are no longer a little boy. You have become a responsible young man with a good job and a good future. Kelvin smiled politely. Everything I have is because of you. Mr. David gently shook his head. No, you worked hard for everything you have achieved. He paused before continuing.
But there is one thing that worries me. Kelvin looked curious. What is it? Mr. David answered softly. You have closed your heart. Kelvin immediately understood what his father meant. He looked down without saying anything. Mr. David continued, “I have watched you for years. Every time a woman tries to become your friend, you politely push her away.
You never allow anyone to come close to you.” Kelvin sighed quietly. “Dad,” Mr. David raised his hand gently. “Please let me finish.” Kelvin nodded. “Okay.” Mr. David leaned forward. “I know why you behave this way. I know your childhood left deep wounds inside your heart. I know you still remember everything your mother did to you. Kelvin remained silent. Mr.
David continued with great kindness, but son, one person’s cruelty should never become the reason you stopped trusting everyone else. Kelvin slowly looked up. Mr. David smiled gently. Your mother failed you. She made terrible choices. She caused you pain no child should ever experience.
But not every woman in this world is like Stella. Kelvin quietly listened. Mr. David continued, “There are still kind women. They are still faithful women. They are still compassionate women who know how to love sincerely and build happy families.” Kelvin sighed deeply. “I know, Dad.” Mr. David smiled. “Do you really believe that?” Kelvin remained quiet for several seconds before answering honestly.
Sometimes I want to believe it. Then what stops you? Mr. David asked. Kelvin slowly lowered his head again. Fear? Mr. David nodded gently. Fear of what? Kelvin took a deep breath before speaking. I’m afraid that if I love someone, she will leave me the way my mother did. [snorts] His voice became emotional.
I’m afraid that one day someone I trust will choose something else over me. Mr. David’s heart broke as he listened. Kelvin continued, “Ever since I was a child, I have always felt that people eventually leave, so I decided it would be better not to let anyone come close. Mr. David slowly stood up and walked over to Kelvin. He gently placed a hand on his shoulder.
My son, he said softly. Your mother abandoned you because of her own choices, not because you are unworthy of love. Kelvin looked into his eyes. Mr. David continued, “You are kind. You are honest. You are hardworking. Any good woman would be blessed to have a husband like you.” Kelvin smiled faintly. “Thank you, Dad.” Mr. David smiled back.
“Promise me something.” “What is it?” Kelvin asked. “Promise me that you will not allow your painful past to steal your future.” Kelvin remained silent for a moment before nodding slowly. “I’ll try.” Mr. David smiled warmly. “That’s all I ask.” While this heartfelt conversation was taking place inside their peaceful home, life had taken a completely different turn for Stella.
The beautiful house she once filled with laughter alongside her wealthy husband had become painfully quiet. Only a few weeks earlier, Michael Johnson had fallen seriously ill. Doctors did everything they could, but his condition worsened each day. Stella spent many sleepless nights praying beside his hospital bed, hoping he would recover.
One morning, however, the doctors quietly informed her that Michael had passed away after his brief illness. Stella’s world suddenly collapsed. The man she had sacrificed everything to keep was gone. The large house that once felt full of life now felt empty. Every room reminded her of the life they had built together.
She wandered through the silent house alone. There was nobody waiting to welcome her home, nobody to share dinner with, nobody to talk to before going to bed. As the days passed, the silence became almost unbearable. One evening, Stella sat alone in the sitting room holding an old family photograph. It showed a much younger version of herself, standing beside little Kelvin when he was still a small child.
She stared at the picture for a long time before tears slowly rolled down her cheeks. “Kelvin,” [snorts] she whispered. For years, she had pushed those memories deep inside her heart, pretending they did not exist. But now, there was nobody left to distract her from the truth. Every painful memory returned. She remembered Kelvin begging her not to leave him alone when he had a high fever.
She remembered shouting at him after Jasinta rescued him. She remembered sending him away to boarding school so that Michael would marry her. She remembered ignoring his phone calls. She remembered moving away without leaving any address behind. She covered her face with both hands and cried bitterly. “What have I done?” she whispered through her tears.
“How could I abandon my own child?” Night after night, she could not sleep. The expensive furniture around her brought no comfort. The wealth she had fought so hard to protect no longer gave her peace. She slowly realized that no amount of money or luxury could replace the son she had rejected. “I chose the wrong thing,” she cried one night.
“I sacrificed my own child, and now I have lost everything.” Finally, Stella made up her mind. I must find Kelvin, she said to herself. Even if he never forgives me, I have to tell him how sorry I am. From that day forward, Stella began searching throughout Lagos. She visited her former neighborhood. She asked old neighbors if anyone had seen Kelvin.
Most people simply shook their heads. She returned to the boarding school where Kelvin had once studied. Many of the staff had changed over the years, but she continued asking questions. Please, she begged one of the school workers. I’m looking for my son. His name is Kelvin. The man searched through old records before shaking his head.
The teacher who cared for him was Mr. David. Stella’s heart skipped. Do you know where I can find him? After making many inquiries over several months, Stella finally received information that led her to Mr. David’s home. One afternoon, with trembling hands and a heart filled with fear, she stood outside his gate. She hesitated for several moments before pressing the doorbell. Mr.
David came outside and looked at the unfamiliar woman standing before him. “Good afternoon,” he said politely. Stella swallowed nervously. “Good afternoon. How may I help you?” Mr. David asked. Stella struggled to speak. “My name is Stella.” The moment Mr. David heard that name. His expression immediately changed. His eyes became cold with anger.
Stella, Kelvin’s mother. Stella slowly nodded. Yes. Mr. David stared at her in disbelief. After all these years, you finally remember that you have a son. Stella lowered her head in shame. I know I don’t deserve forgiveness. Mr. David stepped outside and closed the gate behind him. His voice became firm.
Do you have any idea what that little boy went through because of you? Stella’s tears immediately began flowing. I know. Mr. David shook his head angrily. No, you don’t know. You left him alone during school holidays. You ignored every phone call. You disappeared without leaving any address. That child cried himself to sleep many nights, wondering why his own mother did not want him.
Stella could no longer control her tears. “Please,” she whispered. Don’t remind me. I remember every single day. Mr. David looked at her with disappointment. Then why did you do it? Stella covered her face as she cried. Because I was selfish. She paused before continuing. Michael told me he would never marry me if Kelvin lived with us.
I wanted that marriage so badly that I convinced myself sending Kelvin away was the right thing to do. Her voice trembled. I sacrificed my own son to save my second marriage. Mr. David remained silent as she continued speaking. It was the greatest mistake of my life. Not a single day has passed without regret.
Every morning I wake up wishing I could go back and change what I did, but I can’t. She looked at him through her tears. Please believe me. I have regretted it every single day. Mr. David sighed deeply. His anger remained, but he could also see genuine pain in Stella’s face. After several moments of silence, he finally spoke.
“I cannot excuse what you did.” Stella nodded slowly. “I understand,” Mr. David continued. “You failed your son when he needed you most,” Stella whispered. “I know.” Mr. David shook his head angrily. But no matter how angry I am, Kelvin deserves the opportunity to hear the truth directly from his own mother. Stella looked up with surprise.
Does that mean I can see him? Mr. David remained quiet for a long moment before answering. Not yet. Stella’s face fell. Mr. David continued. If you suddenly appear before him now, you may reopen wounds that have barely healed. Stella nodded sadly. I understand. Mr. David thought carefully before speaking again. There may be one way.
Stella listened closely. Our housekeeper recently left. If you truly regret what you have done, and if your only desire is to make peace with your son, then you may come into my home as a housekeeper. You will not force yourself into Kelvin’s life. You will quietly do your work and back trust through your actions.
and perhaps one day when the right time comes, you will have the opportunity to speak to him. Stella burst into fresh tears. Thank you, she whispered. Thank you for giving me even this small chance. Mr. David looked at her seriously. Do not misunderstand me. I am not doing this for you. I am doing it because Kelvin deserves to know the truth from his own mother one day. Stella slowly nodded.
I understand. With great hesitation and many unanswered questions still in his heart, Mr. David reluctantly agreed to allow Stella into his home, but only as a housekeeper, hoping that with time she might find an opportunity to speak to her son without forcing herself back into his life.
The following morning, Stella arrived at Mr. David’s house very early. The sun had just begun to rise, and the streets were still quiet. She stood outside the gate for a few moments, holding a small bag that contained only a few clothes and personal belongings. She took a deep breath before pressing the doorbell. Mr. David opened the gate and looked at her seriously. “Good morning,” he said.
“Good morning,” Stella replied quietly. “Are you ready?” Mr. David asked. Stella nodded. “Yes.” Mr. David stepped aside and allowed her to enter. Remember our agreement, he said calmly. You are here to work as the housekeeper. You are not here to force yourself into Kelvin’s life. Stella lowered her head.
I understand. Mr. David continued, “You must be patient. If the opportunity comes naturally, then you may speak to him, but until then, allow things to happen in their own time.” Stella nodded again. “Thank [snorts] you. I promise I will respect your decision. Mr. David showed her around the house. He explained where the cleaning materials were kept, showed her the kitchen, the laundry room, and the guest room where she could rest during the day if necessary.
Stella listened carefully to every instruction. Thank you, she said softly. I won’t disappoint you. As soon as Mr. David finished explaining everything, Stella began working. She swept every room carefully, dusted the furniture, washed the dishes, cleaned the windows, and arranged everything neatly. She carried out every task with humility.
She never complained, and she never asked for special treatment. Deep inside her heart, however, she was carrying a heavy burden. Every corner of the house reminded her that another Asen had given her son the love she had failed to provide. Family photographs decorated the sitting room. In almost every picture, Mr. David and Kelvin stood smiling together.
There were photographs from Kelvin’s graduation, birthday celebrations, awards ceremonies, and family outings. Stella stopped for a moment and looked at one particular photograph. It showed Mr. David proudly placing a graduation cap on Kelvin’s head while both of them smiled happily. Tears slowly filled her eyes. She gently touched the frame.
I should have been there. I should have seen this day. She wiped away her tears and continued working. Later that afternoon, the sound of a car entering the compound echoed through the house. Stella’s heart immediately began beating faster. She knew Kelvin had returned from work. She quickly picked up the broom and continued sweeping the sitting room, trying to remain calm.
A few seconds later, the front door opened. Kelvin walked inside wearing a neatly pressed office suit. He looked tired after a long day at work, but he still smiled warmly when he saw Mr. David sitting in the living room. Good evening, Dad. Kelvin greeted happily. Mr. David smiled. Welcome home, my son. Thank you, Kelvin replied before noticing Stella cleaning the floor nearby.
He paused for a moment and looked at the unfamiliar woman. “Dad,” he asked politely. “Who is she?” Mr. David answered calmly. “She is the new housekeeper. I decided to employ someone to help around the house. Kelvin nodded. That’s a good idea. He turned towards Stella and smiled politely. Good evening. Stella slowly looked up.
Seeing her son standing before her after so many years almost brought fresh tears to her eyes. She struggled to remain calm. “Good evening, sir,” she replied softly. Kelvin noticed that she looked uncomfortable, but he assumed she was simply nervous because she was new. He smiled kindly. You don’t have to call me, sir. My name is Kelvin.
Stella forced a faint smile. Thank you. Kelvin placed his briefcase on the table before speaking again. Since this is your first day, let me explain something. Stella nodded quietly. I’m listening. Kelvin spoke gently. You don’t have to work until night. Your working hours are from morning until late afternoon.
Once you finish your duties, you are free to go home and rest. Stella quietly looked at him. The kindness in his voice broke her heart because she remembered how cold she had once been toward him. “Thank you,” she whispered. Kelvin smiled politely. “You are welcome.” Without saying anything else, he went upstairs to change his clothes.
Stella stood there holding the broom while tears silently rolled down her cheeks. “He has grown into such a good man. I missed everything.” That evening, Stella quietly left the house after completing her duties. As she walked home, her mind remained filled with thoughts of Kelvin. She remembered him as the little boy who used to beg her to stay home whenever he was sick.
Now he was a successful young man, speaking politely to a stranger without knowing she was his mother. The pain in our heart became even heavier. Over the next several days, Stella continued working quietly in the house. Every morning she arrived early, cleaned the house, prepared meals, washed clothes, and left before evening. Kelvin remained respectful toward her, but kept a polite distance.
Whenever he greeted her, Stella’s heart longed to tell him the truth, but she remembered the promise she had made to Mr. David. She waited patiently. Sometimes she secretly watched Kelvin from the kitchen as he laughed with Mr. David during dinner. Other times, she heard him asking, “Dad, have you taken your medicine today?” Every small act of love reminded Stella of everything she had thrown away.
One afternoon, after several days of silent struggle, Stella could no longer carry the burden inside her heart. Mr. David had gone out to attend an educational meeting, leaving Kelvin at home because it was his day off from work. Kelvin sat quietly in the sitting room reading a newspaper while Stella finished dusting the shelves.
She looked at him several times before finally gathering enough courage to speak. Kelvin,” she called softly. Kelvin looked up from the newspaper. “Yes.” Stella’s hands began shaking. “May May I speak with you for a few minutes?” Kelvin smiled politely. “Of course.” Stella slowly sat down across from him. She looked nervous. Kelvin noticed her trembling hands.
“Is everything all right?” he asked kindly. Stella took a deep breath. “There is something I’ve wanted to tell you for many years.” Kelvin looked confused. many years. Stella nodded slowly. Tears began filling her eyes. Yes. Kelvin folded the newspaper and gave her her full attention. Go ahead. Stella struggled to find the right words.
Finally, she whispered. Kelvin, I am your biological mother. The room immediately became silent. Kelvin stared at her without blinking. At first, he thought he had heard wrongly. “What did you say?” he asked quietly. Stella’s [snorts] tears began flowing freely. I am your mother. Kelvin slowly stood up. His face showed complete shock.
He looked at her carefully, searching for some sign that she was joking, but the tears in her eyes told him she meant every word. The silence between them lasted several moments. Then Kelvin slowly shook his head. “No,” he said calmly. Stella stood up as well. “Kelvin,” he interrupted her gently. “No.” Stella took one step closer.
Please listen to me. Kelvin looked directly into her eyes. His voice remained calm, but every word carried painful hidden pain. You are not my mother. Stella burst into tears. Kelvin. He slowly shook his head again. I don’t have a mother. Those words pierced Stella’s heart like a knife. She cried even harder. Please don’t say that.
Kelvin remained calm. Why shouldn’t I? Stella wiped away her tears. Because I carried you in my womb for 9 months. I gave birth to you. Kelvin remained silent for a moment before answering. Yes. Stella looked hopefully. Then Kelvin quietly continued. That was the only good thing you ever did for me. Stella covered her mouth as she cried uncontrollably.
Kelvin’s voice never became loud. He did not insult her. He simply spoke with painful honesty. After giving birth to me, you stopped being a mother. Stella shook her head desperately. No, please. Kelvin continued calmly. When I was sick, you left me alone. When I needed you most, you chose someone else. When I waited for you during every school holiday, you never came.
When I called you, you ignored me. Tell me, at what point were you my mother? Stella could not answer. She simply stood there crying. After a long silence, Kelvin asked one simple question. Where is your husband? Stella lowered her eyes. Michael is dead. Kelvin nodded slowly. I see. He looked at her carefully before speaking again.
So, that is why you came back. Stella quickly shook her head. No, that’s not. Kelvin gently interrupted her. If you were still alive, would you have searched for me? Stella could not answer. Tears continued rolling down her face. Kelvin sighed softly. “So, [sighs] you only came back because you have nowhere else to go.
” Stella desperately cried. “That’s not true. I came because I regret everything.” Kelvin looked at her sadly before speaking. “Regreat came after you lost everything.” He paused before continuing. “When you had money, comfort, and your husband, you never remembered your son.” Stella dropped to her knees, crying bitterly.
“Please forgive me.” Kelvin looked at her for several moments before quietly speaking again. The only parent I know is Mr. David. Stella slowly looked up. Kelvin continued, “He rescued me when I had nobody. He believed in me when nobody cared about me. He educated me. He loved me without asking for anything in return.
He stayed with me when everyone else abandoned me. He became the father I never had.” Tears filled Kelvin’s own eyes as he continued, “Every achievement in my life has his fingerprints on it.” Stella sobbed uncontrollably. Kelvin calmly concluded, “So if you came here hoping to find your son, the son you abandoned no longer exists.
The man standing before you belongs to the father who raised him.” Stella remained frozen, unable to speak another word. Every painful consequence of the choices she had made years earlier now stood before her in the form of the broken relationship she had created with her own child. She remained speechless as the full weight of her past confronted her all at once.
After the painful conversation between Kelvin and Stella, life in Mr. David’s house became very quiet. Stella no longer tried to force another conversation with her son. She understood that the pain she had caused him could not disappear in a single day. Every morning she quietly arrived at the house, cleaned the rooms, prepared meals, washed clothes, and carried out every duty without complaining.
Whenever Kelvin entered the house after work, she respectfully greeted him, but she never expected him to answer. Sometimes he nodded politely, other times he simply walked past her without saying anything. Although each moment broke her heart, Stella accepted it. She often whispered to herself, “I have no right to demand forgiveness.
I created this pain with my own choices.” Every night after returning to her small apartment, she cried quietly before going to bed. She remembered the little boy who once begged her not to leave him alone when he had a high fever. She remembered every school holiday he had spent waiting for her. She remembered every phone call she had ignored.
Now she understood that some mistakes leave scars that cannot be erased quickly. She prayed every day, not asking God to make Kelvin love her again, but asking only that he would one day find complete peace in his heart. Meanwhile, Mr. David continued watching over Kelvin with the same love and wisdom he had shown for many years.
He never forced Kelvin to forgive Stella. He knew forgiveness was a personal decision that could never be commanded. One evening after dinner, Mr. David and Kelvin sat together on the ver as they often did. The cool evening breeze blew gently through the compound. Mr. David looked at his son before speaking softly. Kelvin. Yes, Dad.
Kelvin answered. Mr. David smiled gently. How are you feeling? Kelvin sighed quietly. I’m all right. Mr. David nodded. I’ve been thinking about what happened between you and Stella. Kelvin remained silent. After a few moments, he finally spoke. Dad, I don’t hate her. Mr. David looked at him carefully. You don’t? Kelvin slowly shook his head.
No, I simply don’t know how to see her as my mother anymore. Mr. David gently nodded. I understand. Kelvin continued quietly. Every time I look at her, I remember everything that happened. I remember sitting alone in school waiting for someone who never came. I remember wondering what I had done wrong. Those memories don’t disappear. Mr.
David placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. I know, my son. Kelvin looked down. Sometimes I wish they could forget everything. Mr. David smiled kindly. Some memories stay with us forever, but memories do not have to control the rest of our lives. Kelvin quietly listened. I’m not asking you to forgive Stella today, Mr. David said.
I’m only asking you not to allow your pain to become the ruler of your future. Kelvin nodded slowly. Mr. David smiled again. And there’s something else I want you to remember. What is it? Kelvin asked. Do not reject the chance to build a loving family simply because your childhood was painful. Kelvin remained silent for a long time. Finally, he smiled faintly.
Dad, you never stop believing in me. Mr. David laughed softly. That is my job as your father. Kelvin smiled warmly. Thank you. From that evening onward, Kelvin found himself thinking deeply about Mr. David’s words while driving to work, while sitting alone during lunch breaks and while lying awake at night, he reflected on everything his father had said.
“Maybe dad is right,” he quietly admitted to himself one day. “My past should not decide my future forever.” Several weeks later, Kelvin attended a leadership seminar organized by his company. During one of the discussion sessions, he met a young woman named Emily. She was intelligent, respectful, calm, and compassionate. After the seminar ended, she smiled politely.
“Hello,” she said. “I am Emily.” Kelvin smiled politely. “I am Kelvin.” Emily laughed softly. “I’ve heard your name several times today. Everyone keeps saying you’re one of the best employees in your company.” Kelvin smiled modestly. People sometimes exaggerate. Emily smiled. Humility is a good quality.
They spoke for only a few minutes before leaving, but something about Emily’s kindness stayed in Kelvin’s mind. A [snorts] few days later, they met again during another company event. Once again, Emily greeted him with a warm smile. It’s nice to see you again. Kelvin smiled. It’s nice to see you, too. Gradually, they began talking more often.
Their conversations were simple at first. They discussed work, books, family values, and life. Emily never pressured Kelvio to reveal anything he was not ready to share. She simply listened whenever he spoke. One afternoon while they were having coffee after work, Emily smiled and asked, “Can I ask you something?” Kelvin nodded.
“Of course.” Emily looked at him gently, “Why do I sometimes feel like you’re carrying a sadness that you never talk about?” Kelvin remained quiet for several moments, then he smiled faintly. “Because I am.” Emily did not ask more questions. Instead, she simply said, “Whenever you are ready to talk, I’ll listen.
” Those simple words touched Kelvin deeply. She did not judge him. She did not pressure him. She simply offered understanding. As the months passed, their friendship continued growing. Emily’s patience slowly broke down the emotional walls Kelvin had built around his heart for so many years. She proved through her actions that kindness still existed.
She kept every promise she made. She respected his feelings. She encouraged him whenever he doubted himself. For the first time since childhood, Kelvin began believing that genuine love was possible. One evening, he smiled at Mr. David and said, “Dad, I think there’s someone I’d like you to meet.” Mr. David looked up with excitement.
“Really?” Kelvin laughed. “Yes.” Mr. David smiled broadly. “Then bring her home.” A few days later, Emily visited the house. She greeted Mr. David respectfully. “Good evening, sir.” Mr. David smiled warmly. “Welcome, my daughter.” Throughout the evening, Mr. David carefully observed the way Emily treated everyone.
She spoke kindly, showed respect, and carried herself with humility. After she left, Mr. David looked at Kelvin and smiled. She has a beautiful heart. Kelvin smiled happily. I know. As time passed, their friendship blossomed into a beautiful relationship built on trust, respect, honesty, patience, and understanding.
Eventually, Kelvin proposed marriage. Emily smiled through tears of joy. “Yes,” she answered. “I will marry you.” Wedding preparations soon began. Family members, friends, colleagues, and neighbors all looked forward to the joyful celebration. On the wedding day, the church was beautifully decorated with flowers and smiling faces.
Guests filled every seat with excitement. Kelvin stood at the altar wearing a handsome suit while Emily walked gracefully down the aisle in her beautiful white wedding gown. Mr. David sat proudly in the front row as he watched Kelvin exchange marriage vows with Emily. Tears of joy filled his eyes. “Thank you, God,” he whispered. “Thank you for allowing me to see this day.
” When the minister pronounced them husband and wife, the church erupted with joyful applause. Kelvin and Emily smiled at one another before embracing. At the reception, laughter filled the hall. Friends danced happily. Colleagues congratulated the newly married couple. Mr. David proudly stood beside Kelvin for many photographs. People congratulated him as though he were Kelvin’s biological father because everyone knew the important role he had played in the young man’s life.
Standing quietly at the far end of the reception hall was Stella. She had attended only because Mr. David had quietly allowed her to witness the special day from a distance without disturbing anyone. She watched as her son smiled with genuine happiness beside the woman he loved. Tears rolled gently down her face. Although she remained burdened by deep regret, her heart was also filled with gratitude.
She whispered quietly, “Thank you, Mr. David. you became the parent I failed to be. Thank you for giving my son the life I could not give him. She knew she could never recover the years she had lost. She knew she could never erase the pain she had caused. But seeing Kelvin happy brought her a small measure of peace.
As the evening came to an end, Kelvin stood beside Emily and Mr. David while smiling at the joyful crowd around them. Looking at the family he had built, he quietly remembered the lonely little boy who once sat in an empty boarding school waiting for a mother who never came. He realized that although he could never erase the painful memories of his childhood, he had been given something far greater.
He had been given the chance to choose a different future. Instead of allowing rejection to define his destiny, he chose healing. Instead of allowing bitterness to control his heart, he chose hope. Instead of allowing fear to stop him from loving, he chose trust. And when the time was right, he chose forgiveness on his own terms, not because he had forgotten the past, but because he refused to let it destroy his future.
surrounded by the love of his faithful wife, the unwavering support of the father who had raised him, and the hope of building the happy family he had always dreamed of, Kelvin finally understood that love received later in life can still heal even the deepest wounds of the past, proving that a painful beginning does not have to decide how a person’s story ends.
Lesson. Never take the love of your family for granted because the choices we make today can affect the people we love for the rest of their lives. A parent’s greatest responsibility is to love, protect, and care for their children, especially in difficult times. Money, success, or comfort can never replace genuine love.
At the same time, we should never allow the pain of our past to destroy our future. With kindness, forgiveness on our own terms, and the love of good people, even the deepest emotional wounds can begin to heal. This story reminds us that while every action has consequences, it is never too late to choose compassion, hope, and a better path forward.
