She Visited Her Besties Office Unvited And Got The Shock of Her Life.#story #folklore #storytime – Ty
Many years ago, in the beautiful city of Lagos, there lived a woman named Iken. Iken was a very kind woman, and she was popularly known as Madam Hustle because Iken worked two jobs, and anywhere she would see money, you will see Iken there. Any hustle that will pay her extra cash, Iken is there. She worked in the hospital as a cleaner, and at night, she worked in a small restaurant.
She was married to a man named Obinna. Obinna was a building contractor, but not those kind of rich building contractor. He wasn’t rich yet, but at least for someone that went to school, Obinna always speak big big English when people call him engineer. Obinna believed that one day he would make it big in that industry.
His wife, Iken, also believed in him with all her heart. She loved how her husband dreamed so big, even when they could barely pay rent. Even though they live in one small room in Surulere, Iken did not mind. She still respected her husband, gave her all in the marriage. All the work she was doing, she’s the one that is footing the bill more than the husband, but Iken did not even care.
All she wanted was peace, and peace she was really getting. Because Obinna loved her so much and was giving her the kind of life she [snorts] even did not dream of. Obinna helps out in all the chores in the house. Is it cooking? Is it cleaning? You will see Obinna helping his wife. Even though they have been married for 5 years with just one child, yet it was as if they just got married yesterday.
It was as if their love was getting renewed every blessed day. They barely have any sort of issues or quarrel. Even if they do, they would settle it before the next day. Iken felt like God have really done it for her giving her such an intentional man, a man that knows the worth of a woman. She kept on praying for her husband for a big contract to come.
She kept on praying for herself to make more money and assist in the house. Then, it was as if God was listening all the while she was praying. Obinna came home one evening very excited. Iken, where are you? God has done it for us, oh. Iken was confused. What happened? I got a big contract. They want me to build two houses for one rich man in Lekki.
If I do this one well, eh, my wife, I know that my name will enter their company list. See, I’m sure that man will give me more connections. This is our time, my wife, oh. Ah, at least we will leave this our one room apartment. Eh, we move to a better apartment. Kai, my wife. Iken was so happy. She hugged her husband tightly.
Kai, you see? I I just finished praying this this evening asking God to please keep blessing my husband, and he just came back with this good news. Chai, I told you our time will come, oh. The two of them danced in their small room that night. They were so happy, and they celebrated their major wins. After that day, Obinna would wake up very early in the morning, dress up, and go to the site to go and see how the building was going.
And every evening whenever he comes back home, he would be showing his wife proudly all the work he did for the day. He gestured her everything that happened. Iken was so happy. Chai, so despite this my husband getting this kind of contract, he did not change. Hm. God, you work in mysterious ways, oh. I beg, keep on giving my husband jobs, oh, but let him not change because of money.
And every night, Obinna would keep on reassuring Iken that they would live in one of those big big houses one day. You will have your own room. Our son will have his own room. Even us will have the master’s bedroom. And also have a guest room. Chai. Obinna kept on assuring Iken that better life is coming their way, and Iken believed him 100% because Obinna have always proved himself to be a very good husband, understanding, caring.
Even as that contract came, Obinna gave her some money to put in one or two that they are doing so that it will yield more money. Iken felt like the luckiest woman on earth. Chai, may God continue to bless this my husband, oh. One month after Obinna received that contract, he came back home frowning, and Iken was confused. Babe, what happened? Hm.
There’s a problem, oh. Eh? What is it? The price of material went up. I don’t understand. What do you mean went up? I thought you told me that you’ve gotten everything you needed for the building. What do you mean by the price of What’s going on? See, I thought so until one of those stupid people that are working for me, they came and told me that um this one is not complete.
I should get that one or more a lot of things to get, and the money the the investors gave me, I it has already exhausted. I don’t know. I’ve already sent them an email, but they have not replied me. See, I need to find a way to complete that building, okay? By the time they pay me, I will pay the I will pay back any amount you could give me. I beg.
I don’t understand. Are you joking or what? Obinna, I know I don’t have that kind of money. You people’s business involves in millions. Where do you expect me to get millions? You only gave me 100,000 out of the money that you got from the contract. And I’ve already put the 100,000 naira in the house.
I used it to stock the house. So, which money do you want me to get again? Eh, see, I only need about 4 million. Eh? Just 4 million? Obinna, stop calling 4 million just. 4 million naira is not just. Can you stop already? Where do you expect me to get the money from? Eh, that your jewelry now, that one that one that is worth worth almost Let’s say, you know that jewelry that you have in that box that you kept for so many years.
You know that jewelry is worth about I don’t know, but the last time I priced it, the jewelry is worth about 5 million. Wait, oh. Obinna, are you talking about the jewelry my mother gifted me, the gold jewelry? Yes. Ah, Obinna, I told me my mother said I should not I should I should not sell the the jewelry no matter what. It is a gift given to generations.
Uh-uh. What do you mean gift given to generations? I will pass it on to my daughter or my son when they are of age. She never told me to sell it. Then why do you want me to sell it? You will have to find a way or wait for your people that you are working for to send you the money. I cannot sell that jewelry. Uh-uh.
If If to say I wanted to sell the jewelry, I would have sold it since and balanced my life. But you can see that I did not. I’m still struggling making money regardless of that kind of jewelry being in my hand. I can’t sell it, oh. Uh-uh. Come on. I said I will pay you back. You can go and give it to those people that sell jewelry.
Use it and collect money equivalent to it. They should give you time at least 2 months or 3 months. If you do not bring back the money, they can keep the jewelry. But I know that you can actually bring back the money, and they will give you the jewelry back. Please. I’m begging you. Don’t do this. If I don’t complete this, I might lose the contract.
At that point, they will collect it from my hand. And that is it. I will be tagged someone that doesn’t know how to work, but I’m claiming I am I the engineer. I beg, my wife, don’t do this to me. Iken thought about it. She kept on looking at her husband. She believed in him so much, so she decided to go and do what will make her husband so happy.
The next day, Iken took the jewelry and went to one of the popular gold and diamond store they have in Lagos. When she got there, she told them what she wanted to do. She doesn’t want to sell the gold. She just wants them to keep it as a collateral while she collects money. If she doesn’t bring the money back in 3 to 6 months, they should keep the jewelry as a collateral and sell it off.
The owner looked at her and checked the jewelry, and then asked her, “Do you know the worth of what you are holding?” Iken was staring at him. Eh, my husband said it’s 5 million. 5 what? This jewelry is not 5 million. Anybody that told you that this is 5 million is lying to you. Maybe the person wants to scam him or her off this jewelry because this jewelry is not 5 million, oh.
We are honest in this place. That is why I will tell you the truth. This jewelry is worth more than the amount that you are requesting for. But if I may ask you, madam, why do you want to sell this jewelry? Eh, it’s because of my husband. He’s in need of money to complete his work. That is why I want to not to sell it, oh.
I want to use it as a collateral to collect money. I don’t want to sell it, please. It’s a jewelry my mother gave me, and she told me I should pass it to my next generation. Though, my mother never told me never to sell the jewelry, sha. But, it’s just that I thought something that is handed over, and she asked me to hand it over to the next generation, it means that is worth fortune. Yes, of course.
Your mother knows what she’s talking about. But, you see how heavy this is? Uh, anyways, let me just tell you the truth. I don’t know if your husband have the best interest in heart to tell you to sell this, but I will give you a fair solution. You’re going to get a lawyer, and I will get mine.
We’re going to sign a contract. Cuz me, I don’t want to enter busy on a jewelry that someone will come tomorrow and tell me it’s my own, no. Because many looking at you, you cannot have this kind of jewelry and be looking like this. Anyways, this is the real worth of the jewelry. The man wrote it down on a paper and gave it to Inkem.
Inkem nearly screamed the whole shop down. Ah, madam, calm down now. Why are you screaming like that? Jehovah! Jesus Christ! Are you serious? Yes. This is the real worth of the jewelry you’re holding. So, if I were you, you don’t sell everything. It’s something that can be melted. You can sell half of it. You know that most times when we buy gold, we melt it and now mold it into ring, mold it into necklace or earring.
Anyhow, even bangles, too. So, my dear, this thing that is heavy like this, nobody can wear it and be walking around. Is that person a fool? You can see that it’s heavy. It cannot be worn um as a fashion. Hm? It’s a pure gold that cannot be worn. It’s as if your husband does not know the worth of what you’re holding.
So, what you’re going to do is go and sign an agreement. I’m going to melt this for you. Half of it will be taken by me, and I will give you the money equivalent to the half. I’m not doing any collateral with you. The remaining half, go and keep it in your house. Keep it in a safe house where no one can steal it.
One more thing, madam. If I were you, your husband will not find out the real amount that this gold jewelry costs. If he does, I’m not sure you will wake up the next day. Ah, sir, no. Ah, ah, my husband is not like that. He would never kill me just because of ordinary money. You call this money ordinary? This woman is like your Colossus.
Are you smoking something? The heart of a man is wicked. If my wife have this kind of money with her, I will not feel bad. You know why? Because I’m a rich man myself. But, you see a man that doesn’t have much and notice that the wife have this one, my dear, you are replaceable. So, he can easily buy you and move on with his life.
So, you better be careful. Since he doesn’t know the value of what you have, don’t keep this at home again. Inkem went back home, and when she got home that day, Obinna asked her how the selling of the jewelry went, and Inkem just told him, “Well, I went, and the man said I should come with the lawyer.
They will draft a plan or a contract, whatever he called it, so that I will not come back tomorrow and say another thing.” “Eh hey, that is good. That’s good. So, have you gotten a lawyer?” “Calm down now, Obinna. I’ve not gotten any lawyer. I just contacted one as I was coming back. He said the the documents will be ready tomorrow, so we’ll go to the man’s shop tomorrow to come and do it.
” “Eh no, wala, I’ll go with you.” “No, you don’t need to come with me. Go and do your work. I will just go.” Obinna was so happy and thanked Inkem for believing in him. But, Inkem felt somehow lying to her husband about what she just discovered, but she decided to play along and decided not to say anything to Obinna.
The next day, Inkem went with the lawyer to the man that sells the jewelries and gold. When they got there, right in front of her, they melted the jewelry and gave her half of it. The man paid the money into his account, signed some documents, and that was it. When Inkem came back, she wired a sum of 10 million naira to Obinna. Obinna could not believe his eyes.
Are you serious? 10 million naira, babe? Wow! This is so huge. Are you telling me that that gold jewelry is worth 10 million? But, that guy told me the gold jewelry is worth about 5 million. Which guy told you? There was a time I I showed this one of to one of my guy like that, and he told me it’s just 5 million.
It’s not It’s not that much. Then, there’s no problem. At least I’ve given you more than the money that I requested for. And um I’m also thinking of starting a business cuz I have some small money left out of the jewelry that I sold. How much is that? So, does it mean that it’s not 10 million naira that I sold it? No.
The jewelry is worth 15 million, so I gave you 10. I will use five to start up a business. Obinna was genuinely excited. Chai, my beautiful wife. See, you see what I’m telling you? How can we have such money here lying in front of us and we are suffering? Hm? Don’t worry. God have opened the way for us. One month later, after Inkem gave Obinna 10 million naira, he came back with a brand new car.
Obinna didn’t even tell Inkem that he wanted to buy any car. As Inkem saw the car, she was confused. Obinna, what are you doing with a brand new car? Who owns it? It’s our own, no, my darling wife. Eh? God has blessed us. I got another contract. Ah ah, but you didn’t tell me that you want to get a car. I know.
I want to surprise you. Obinna, you know that we have not moved out from our one room. Is it in this one room that we’ll be driving this kind of expensive car? We should have moved to a better neighborhood before we start buying these kind of luxuries. Look at how everybody will be looking at you. Even you, hating you for no reason.
And next thing, they will start plotting evil. That’s how you will stay on your own now. People will be hating you for no reason. You need to move to a bigger neighborhood with people that have like minds like yours. Not these kind of people that surround us, oh. Hm. You know, you have a point, oh. You have a point. Eh, let us start looking for an apartment, then.
And that’s was how Obinna started hunting for an apartment. He finally got a two-bedroom flat, very nice in a very good location. When Inkem went to go and see the apartment, she also liked it. And that was how they moved out from Surulere, and they moved to the island. Ever since they moved to the island, Obinna completely changed.
He stopped coming back home. He doesn’t eat dinner at home. Every night before Obinna comes back home, Inkem and his son had already slept off. Inkem complained one or two times, but Obinna did not say anything reasonable than, “Eh, it’s my clients, oh. They love to have uh dinner with me. We chat before they will give me the contract to work on their building.
You should know now, babe, when we have more money, I become more busy.” Inkem noticed that the lively Obinna was no longer lively. He would come back. Instead of him to show him pictures of what he did for the day, chat with him the normal way they used to chat, Obinna would just be on his own pressing phone and laughing.
And whenever Inkem tried to talk to him, to tell him that what he’s doing is not really good, and how he’s now ignoring her is not fair, yet Obinna has response for everything. And if Inkem complained too much, Obinna would tag her a nagging woman. Then, one evening, Inkem decided to wash the clothes.
As she was putting the clothes in the washing machine, she was busy searching all the pockets of her husband’s shirts and trousers. Then, she came across a receipt inside one of Obinna’s trouser. She opened it and saw set of bedroom furniture, 2.4 million. And the name that was on it was Adora Okafor. Inkem felt maybe it was just a client’s receipt, but why would Obinna keep it so careless? She just picked up the receipt and kept it well, hoping to give it to Obinna by the time he comes back from work.
By evening, Obinna came back from work, but he was standing outside making a call. Inkem came outside to come and hug him from the back and surprise him. That’s was when she overheard his conversation. “See, the house is 100% completed.” “Ah ah, what are you saying now?” “I got set of furnitures from that furniture company to furnish my house.
Omo, that house drained me, but we thank God, everything is working out and going well the way it should. Very soon, I’ll become a house owner. Ikem was shocked. House owner? Obinna, what are you talking about? Obinna turned immediately and was shocked to see her standing there. Aha, I’m babe.
What are you doing here? And how long have you been standing here? It doesn’t matter how long I’ve been standing here. Are you building a house for yourself? And you didn’t let me know. Um, see, babe, do not worry yourself. Eh? I wanted it to be a surprise, but see, you’ve ruined the whole surprise. Come on. I heard my friend’s voice on the phone.
Were you talking to her? Oh, yes. I was talking to Adora. It rang in Ikem’s ear again. Adora. Which Adora are you talking to? Wait. Is it my best friend Adora you are talking about? Yes, now. Adora is a real estate agent. Have you forgotten? She was the one that helped me to get the land and started building on it. We wanted to surprise you.
Surprise! But, it turns out that you figured it out yourself by eavesdropping on my conversation. That’s a very bad thing to do, Ikem. Eh? Look at how you ruined my surprise. I’m so sorry, Obiora. I didn’t know. And whereas, you didn’t tell me you were working with my best friend Adobi. And I’ve seen Adobi severally.
We’ve discussed in my shop. And she didn’t tell me anything about you uh building a house and helping you to do anything. That’s because I begged her to keep it a surprise. Oh, wow. The two of you really had me. But, anyways, thank God I found out. So, where is the house? Where are you guys building the house? You said it’s 100% complete.
Where? Where? I would love to see it. Calm down. It’s 100% complete, yes. But, it’s not 100% complete. Um, there’s still some small small finish touches in it. So, that’s just it. There’s not too much. Once it is completed, don’t worry, we are moving in. Chai, Obinna. You know, I was getting worried. The way you were collecting money from me is much.
For the past 6 months, you’ve collected over 10 million naira from me. And I kept on asking you what happened to your own job. And you kept telling me all the stories. You should have told me that you were putting it in our house. Don’t worry. God is good. I was getting contracts too.
And at the same time, I wanted you to be supporting small small. It’s our investment. God is good. Ikem felt like the luckiest woman on earth to have Obinna by her side. Even though Obinna have changed, but at least, he has a very good heart. And he also love his family. The next day, Ikem decided to visit Adora in her office. When she got there, Adora was busy on her laptop.
The real agent, mogun. How are you? I’m fine, oh. Ikem, this one you came to come and see me today. Hope all is well. All is well, oh. Well, so you and my husband decided to be playing me for a fool. Adora’s face changed immediately. What do you mean? Um, I don’t [snorts] understand. So, you were building house with my husband.
And you guys decided to keep it a secret. You didn’t tell me. What sort of surprise was that? Oh, that. ; [laughter] ; It was your husband that said he wants to keep it a surprise, oh. So, I helped him get the property, start building the house. Even most of the things that was used to furnish things in the house, I got it. I helped him to build the house.
The house is 100% ready. It’s just some small small finish touches. Yes, he told me. And I’m super happy. Thank you so much, Adora. You know, eh, sometimes, I keep asking God, where did you bring this intentional man and handed it over to me? Because Obinna is so intentional, eh? The things he does for me and our boy, ha, I don’t know how to thank him, oh.
He’s a very good husband. And this surprise is the most beautiful surprise ever. Thank you, guys. Adora, thank you. Thank you. I truly appreciate you. Come on now, Ikem. Why are we friends? Well, I didn’t know that you’ve already known the secret that I’ve been keeping from you. But, since you’ve known, I’m happy for you.
Very soon, you will be a house owner. They discussed. A few minutes later, Ikem left to go and pick up her son from school. Just then, Adora angrily called Obinna to come over to her office. What just happened? Eh? How did that stupid woman find out about the house? Did you tell her she’s the owner of the house? What do you want me to do? What do you want me to do? Adora, please don’t put that on me.
I told you that anytime I’m at home, you should stop calling me. You were the one that called me. And she was standing at my back all the while. I didn’t know she was hearing our conversation. I had to tell her the truth. If not, we’ll be exposed. Remember, her money is what I used to build at least 85% of that house. It’s her money, oh.
Anytime I call Ikem, send me 200, send me 300,000. Ikem is sending money. Apart from the 10 million naira she forwarded before that we used and purchased the land and started building. Ikem has been the one contributing massively to that house. So, I use all beg you. No spoil our blues oh with your reggae. Me, I don’t know the nonsense you are doing.
I don’t really know the nonsense you are doing. But, just be sure that you know what you are doing. Because now that you’ve lied to her that she owns the house, how do you now explain to her by the time you did not present the house to her? See, Obinna, that house belongs to me. It was bought in my name. Everything in that house was bought in my name.
So, you cannot tell me that you want to give it to her all of a sudden. Please, oh. Adora, I don’t know what you want me to do anymore. I fooled that woman for the longest time. She has been there with me right from when I had nothing. I fooled her for a long time. We have a child together and she doesn’t know about it.
We’ve been having an affair for so many years and she doesn’t know about it. I will beg you. Do not ruin things between us. She’s a good woman and I still see her as my wife. You still see her as your wife? As you are seeing her as your wife, what are you seeing me as? Side chick? I beg you, go and sit down. You told me she’s not good in bed.
You told me a lot of awful things about her. You told me that her tasting even smells. I beg you. You see me, I keep everywhere clean. I give it to you anyhow you want it. Then, why you want to compare me with her? Please, oh. I know she’s my best friend. But, that one is for mouth, oh. Please. Find a way to resolve this.
Tell her that the house caught fire or you sold it because you need money. That house is mine and is mine alone. It’s for me and my own child to move in. You can join us anytime you want when you are done with how you want to divorce her. As for me, I will not let my house go because of her. Obinna calmed Adora down.
He told her not to worry that he will find a way to solve it. Since Ikem trust him so blindly, he would find a way to deceive her into letting her know that the house is gone. Meanwhile, as the two of them were inside our office talking, someone was outside hearing the whole conversation. It turns out that Ikem had been standing at that door all this while they were having the discussion.
Immediately she left, she was standing waiting for a bike. But, unfortunately, bike was nowhere to be found. She waited and she stood under the tree beside Adora’s office. She was there waiting to see if she would see a bike. It turns out that bike were really scarce that day. She then decided to book a ride.
The ride was 15 minutes away from her. So, Ikem had no choice than to stand under that shade to wait for the rider. As she was standing there, she now saw her husband’s car. Obinna’s car drove inside Adora’s compound, the office environment. Ikem followed him almost immediately to greet him and also let him know that she has been standing there and have not been able to see a bike.
Maybe she should cancel the ride and let drive her to their son’s school. But, she got the surprise of her life, the shock of her life. Before she could knock, immediately after Obinna entered Adora’s office, Adora started shouting at him. Ikem heard everything and she secretly left the office environment without Obinna and Adora knowing that she came back and she heard everything that they said.
Even though Ikem was shattered, she couldn’t believe that her husband, the man she trusted so much, would betray her in such a manner. She called a friend, who turns out to be a lawyer. She went straight to see him. When Ikem got to his office, she explained everything she heard and asked the lawyer, is there a way that it can be proven that I paid 90% of the building, both the land and everything, and I can recover it back? Is there a way I can tell them that I’ve been scammed off my hard earned money? After the lawyer weighed the case,
well, I think you can’t prove anything because this is just like husband and wife transaction. It was never an outsider, so I’m sorry. I don’t think you can on that house if the house is under another person’s name. It’s going to be a very difficult ride. You will just waste your money, and maybe you will not even win the case.
The only thing I can advise you, which is somehow risky, is to trick him into selling the house. Yes, you might sell the house without him knowing to teach him a lesson. Does men of these days, I don’t know what they are turning into. Inkem left the lawyer’s office disappointed. When she got home that day, she was so devastated.
She locked herself in her son’s room and continued crying. She cried and cried till tears was not coming out anymore. The betrayal really caught her deep. She wasn’t expecting the man she loved to betray her in such a way with a woman who has been her best friend for so many years. They have a child together and they’re trying to start a life behind her back.
She decided to pay them their own coin just as the lawyer suggested. Inkem became to hunt for the house papers. Unfortunately for Obinna, Inkem was able to see the land document. She went straight to the lawyer and gave it to him. The lawyer now told her this is how to sell it. He must sign an agreement to show that he willingly sold the house not under duress.
The lawyer told Inkem she should find a way to do it in a way that Obinna would not find out what she’s doing because if he ever finds out, their scheming will not work. As Inkem came back home that day, she was just smiling and so happy. Then, she went towards Obinna. My husband, the husband of my youth, how are you doing? Obinna was so happy.
I’m fine, oh, my darling wife, how are you too? I’m good. Eh, eh, forgot oh, there is this this thing they say they should sign at their school. What was that? Eh, they say there’s a guardian gynecological you know all these things that we used to sign every time now. They bring they bring a form, we fill out our names as the guardian and sign.
I don’t even understand because in case if the child’s guardian have been changed, no, they do it every time. Yes, eh, eh. So, they gave it to us. So, I want you to sign it in case if you are less busy. Obinna was really exhausted that evening. He did not read what he was signing and he foolishly signed it. After he finished signing it, Inkem smiled in a very beautiful way.
Finally, her plan worked. The next day, she went back to the lawyer and that was how the two of them sold the house without Obinna knowing that the house was already gone. Few weeks later, Obinna went to the house and found out that someone had already moved in. He was not confused what was going on and they gave him and showed him proof that they bought the house from him.
He couldn’t believe his ears. He rushed back home to go and confront Inkem. Maybe she knows something about this, but Inkem was nowhere to be found. It turns out Inkem had already packed up her things and left the house. She only dropped a letter for him. When Obinna opened the letter, it says, “I know I’ve been a fool all these years.
You think you can betray me with my best friend and go scot-free. Anyways, I know by now you might have found out that the house that you built with my money, I’ve sold it. Yes, I sold it. You gave me the consent to sell the house when you signed those documents. Willingly you signed it. It wasn’t under duress.
So, you can now go on and go and leave with Adora. I don’t even have time to confront her. She’s below me. As for me and your son, forget that we ever existed.” Obinna decided to go to Adora’s office to go and tell her the latest that was happening. When he got there, he told her everything and he was really shedding bad tears. Adora just looked at him and started laughing.
; [laughter] ; “You are the biggest fool I’ve ever known in my entire life. I thought you said the house is in my name. Then how come she succeeded in selling that house with your signature?” Eh, you are the one that helped me get the house now, so you later went and changed it to your name because you did not trust me.
Since everybody is having trust issues, I don’t think you need me anymore in your life. Come on, Adora. It’s the best thing to do. Let the house be in my name so that my wife will not suspect anything. That was why I changed it after she found out about the house. I don’t care, Obinna. Since your wife had already know that two of us had an affair and we have a child together, oh, that child is not yours actually.
The child belongs to my fiance. Yes, Obinna, my fiance. I am getting married. And you have just been a backup plan all this while. But since you cannot leave your wife, why should I wait for you?
