Many years ago, in the lively city of Lagos, there lived a young lady named Zoe. Zoe loved children. She was the first daughter and the first child of her family. Her parents gave birth to three children, two girls and one boy. It happened to be an ordinary Tuesday morning.

Zoe was in her studio and she was working. She was sipping her coffee and music was playing low on the speaker by the window. Then she opened her email on her laptop when she saw an email that popped up. The email was from an investigator, a man who had been considering funding the clean energy consultancy she had spent months helping to build.

That company was her whole idea. But her boyfriend Richard was the one who first brought up the idea of starting a cleaning agency. But Zoe took it upon herself to assist her boyfriend and pour out all her ideas, everything she knows into this business. Zoe had given more of herself to this company than most people give to things that are officially theirs.

That Tuesday morning as Zoe opened that email and saw the questions the investigator were asking about their pitch. Zoe, who had designed every slide of that deck herself, opened it to prepare the answers. But something happened and it made her to stop because the deck she was looking at was not the one she had designed.

It was the same structure, the same general direction, but someone touched it. It looks updated, changed a little bit. She knew something was updated and modified. Before she could finish understanding what was going on, she was locked out of the system. Zoe was so shocked she picked up her phone to call her boyfriend Richard to find out what was really going on.

Meanwhile, many years ago, when Richard came into Zoe’s life, he had one thing, a vision. Two brilliant ideas. That was what Richard brought to the table. He told Zoe about the cleaning agency and also about an energy consultancy that he wants to help businesses reduce their electricity costs.

It was a brilliant idea genuinely but it was an unfunded one. Zoe being the understanding girlfriend calmed down and listened to him. Immediately he finished talking about it. Zoe decided to act because she was a graphic designer. a very good one. She first designed a flyer about the cleaning agency. That one were kept aside and she then designed another flyer about the energy consultancy.

She sat Richard down one evening and told him how this thing is going to play out. Richard tried to explain to Zoe that he does not have money to set up all these ideas, but Zoe did not care. She told Richard that she would design everything and even open an app if possible for people to order their services with ease. Richard was so happy. Oh, finally.

Zoe buried herself in work. She wanted to make sure everything goes very smoothly. One evening, Zoe was designing and working on her laptop when her sister Sandra walked in.

As Zoe was making the call, she was so happy announcing to Richard that she was able to complete what she was doing. She finally finished working on their app in which people will be ordering for their services. But she has just one issue. The app is designed in a way people have to pay for the services before it is being rendered.

If you want to order for a cleaning service, if it’s for three-bedroom flat, there is a specific amount. If it’s for a duplex, if it’s for four bedroomedroom flat, if it’s for a two-bedroom self a room and parlor, it has different prices. And once you are ordering, you are making part payment. Once the services is done being rendered to the person, the person will complete the payment on the same app just for transparency and also for nobody to say he’s being cheated on also and for workers not to scam the people they are working for. So Zoe was so very very

specific about the things she wanted about this app. She knows the way to start promoting it and how to start getting clients. Everything was already recorded on her head. All she needed to do is to be transparent with her boyfriend on how they going to be sharing the revenue coming from that business.

So that evening she made an urgent call to Richard to explain all these things. Richard on the other end was so happy. Wow, finally. Oh god, what would I do without you babe? Richard thanked Zoe very much and then asked her if there is any other problem. So we then count down to explain. You know, I paid other people to work on this app with me. I’m not the only one working on it. It’s not something one person will work on. And now they are demanding for the account details that are going to be in that app so that we can be able to use it to be receiving funds from people that will be ordering our services.

Imagine trying to order food from a popular restaurant and you are seeing a personal account that is not bearing the restaurant’s name. Would you pay? Would you find it suspicious or people would think that ah be say this was that scammer? Think about it auntie. It does not make sense.

She filled in the form and she did it for the two of them. The both names were there. Both Zoe and Richard name were on the document showing that it’s a corporate account owned by two people.

She decided to do it on her own and then tell Richard later because if she calls back that night is another argument that she does not want to listen to. A week and some days later, the name came out and Zoe was so happy. She immediately went to Rich’s house without informing him. When she got to Richard’s house, she saw a familiar footwear, but she didn’t really think much.

; ; She knocked and the person that opened the door surprisingly turns out to be her sister Sandra. Zoya was confused. Sandra, what are you doing in my boyfriend’s house? Sandra, on the other hand, does not seem to be very surprised. Oh, sis, welcome. I just arrived. Come inside. Zoe entered. And so Richarded eating, which means that Santa brought him food.

It was not going and I decided to call your sisters and it went through. I needed food. I was starving. You know I was working now with the small advertisement you did. Maybe his network that was doing that but he ranged almost three times until I started to try your sister’s number and she picked up immediately.

I begged her that I needed a home booked meal and she said she would get it and within few minutes she arrived. I was even asking her to call you to know where you are. The whole thing was not adding up for Zoe but she tried to overlook it because nothing suspicious seems to be going on between them. Sandra was already getting ready to leave while Richard was busy enjoying the food.

Since I’m going, I just entered now to drop the food and I’m leaving. I wanted to get home and tell you that I came to drop your boyfriend food. But since you are here, it’s better so that you will not say there is something going on between me and your boyfriend. I don’t want embarrassment though. That was how Sandra left. And Zoe thought maybe they were saying the truth.

Even though some things does not make sense and it wasn’t adding up, she felt her sister wouldn’t betray her. She then excitedly told Richard the good news. The name she registered is out and they should go to the bank the next day to go and open a corporate account that they will use to be receiving funds. Richard’s expression changed.

He dropped the food he was eating immediately. What did you just say? Zoe repeated herself. I said the name registration that I did for us is out. We just need to head to the bank tomorrow morning to go and open a corporate account that we are going to be using to receive funds. Is there anything else you don’t understand? Or is there anything you want me to clarify? I don’t understand.

They stop going out for cleaning. Even when there’s an emergency work, maybe to go and see a particular building and build them personally before the work will continue. Richard will give one kind excuse not to go. He became totally lazy and stopped doing anything. It was Zoe that carried this business on her head.

She made sure not to disappoint any clients. She employed more workers so that the business will be at float. The business was going on well for complete 8 months. Richard life changed completely. He changed his wardrobe. He moved into a better apartment. The money was flowing and he felt like he has won a lottery. He was earning money without even working hard for it. All thanks to Zoe.

Then one evening, Zoe came back very late at night, as late as 1200 a.m. She was so exhausted. When she came in, Treasure was in the apartment already waiting. Auntie Zoe Kai, you’re so tired. I am. Zoe replied to Treasure. Do you need some foot massage? Zoe smiled. No, I don’t. I’m just tired. Okay. Once I rest, I’ll be good in the morning.

That night, that middle of the night, she went there. She knocked and knocked until Richard finally woke up. When he opened the door, Zoe walked in immediately without being asked to. There was Sandra relaxing, chilling. She was drinking a wine, eating pizza in the middle of the night while watching Netflix with Richard. They were doing lovey duvie in the middle of the night while Zoe was working so hard to keep their lifestyle afloat. Zoe was so disappointed.

He knew that his few meal will not be coming anymore. He knew that the free money will no longer be coming and he has squandered every other one that was given to him on Sandra instead of saving or making some investments.

When Zoe cut him off, Richard went back to square one, a man with a vision and broke like hell. Sandra withdraw from him and stopped being friends with him. She has always been the one that has this mentality of friends with benefits. Zoe, on the other hand, cut off her relationship with her sister.

She moved out of the family house and moved to her own personal space. No matter how how the parent tried to reconcile them, Zoe decided to be distant from a girl who choose to betray her despite being her blood. And in all this, Zoe did not forget Treasure who helped her navigate a lot of things.
