She ANGRILY Resigned From Being The Firstborn,Just Because..#story #storytime #viral #folk – Ty
Some people say thunder is loud but they have not heard a tired fborn drop her spoon. That is how this story started. They say firstborns are small gods. They carry house on their head. They know where everything is. They know who is crying, who is hungry and who is forming. But one hot Tuesday in Enugu Mess the firstborn of Yokafos family resigned not from work but from being firstborn. Every day around 500 a.m.
Mema would wake up. Her alarm tune was not even music from a phone. It was her mother’s voice in her head. Me it is late. And that was how mess will jump up from where she was lying down. First B don’t sleep too much. Oh walk is always waiting. And immediately me wake up she will carry her broom and start sweeping the sitting room.
From the sitting room she will go to the corridor. From the corridor to the kitchen pretending that everything is fine. After she finish sweeping she will now enter kitchen to start cooking that early morning. She would wash rice, put it on fire, slice onions and tomatoes that she will use and make jelloof fries.
While the rice is boiling, summer would be checking the stove where beans has been soaked since yesterday night. That one was for later. First born think ahead. Then there’s still leftovers too. Me would warm after making the rice. As she was doing all that, if message entered her phone, when she checked it, it was Nepa message. Ah, now wow.
Nepa again. Dear customer, your light may be disconnected if you don’t research. Me side that day, these people want to finish me. Eh, guess what? Mess was still the one who would go use her money and go and buy token to load in the meter. Me was just 21 and at 21 she had list of things to do every day. She stored it on her phone and each one she finished she would tick done.
She was just 21 but her brain was like a 45 years old woman. All thanks to her parents who left all their responsibility to their first child. Her parents were not left out. They love to show her off outside. Anytime Miss Mema’s father and mother goes out to meet a friend, they would always boast about their daughter.
Mess our first daughter. Hey, she’s our backbone. No, if not for that girl, this house will scatter. She works in a very big office. She pays our abuse, buy food, and still help our brothers with homework. H that my first daughter is firstborn with sense. They would all laugh and smile and beat to their chest that they are doing the right thing.
But inside the house, backbone was treated like free house help. No one asked how she felt. Nobody asked if her legs were paying her. Nobody asked if her salary had finished. She was just first born, so they believed she was fine. And that was how Mess’s day are every day. 5:00 a.m. she has woken.
She will sweep the house and she will still cook that morning. Mess will still go to the boys room. Her younger brothers Chi and Ibuka will still be sleeping like dry logs. Stand up. She will shout at them. You people want to marry sleep. Chi pulled blanket over his face. Leave me sister. Beg. I had a bad dream.
That was his excuse so that he would not stand up and get ready for school. Then me will turn towards him. So you have a bad dream Abby. That is how you will have bad results and you will keep repeating your classes. Me angrily pulled off the blanket from his body and almost injured him. That is how she decided shouting.
Ha sister, do you want to kill me? If I wanted to kill you, I will not wake you up. Stupid boy. Get up there and go and take your bath. Come out immediately because I will not go to work late because of the two of you. Should I move to Ibuka’s bed? That one. He was hugging his pillow like a wife. Some will tap him. Get up now.
School is not on strike. Mr. Man. Oh, I’m tired. See? Well, all of us are tired though. I wish to be you so that I will see someone that be waking me up in the morning. You are not grateful. You get up from there before I pour you water. That was how the boys will walk up after so much talking from me and they will enter the bathroom to go and bathe inside the bathroom.
Mama had already fetched water into bucket. She had already placed their sponge and soap. She already arranged their toothbrush and toothpaste. All they needed to do was to go inside the bathroom and take their bath. Just as Ume felt relieved that her brothers are not beating, she will go and get ready for work. Her father shouted her name.
Me come come. Me would reply. Sir, where is the remote? He asked. Mama came out with her hands wet from what she was doing in the kitchen. Papa, look at it now. The remote is beside you there. Eh eh it’s not my work for me to bend and look you young people self no respect go and bring it for me will pick it up and hand it to him and the father would not even say thank you as if that was not enough the mother will shout from the bedroom is my rapper the blue one with flowers the one I wore yesterday to the women’s

meeting will still drag herself and go straight to the room mama Ma maybe he’s is on the chair check it now will you check it for me ah you want me to be bending down at my age and that was how me checked and dear the rapper was on the chair right there staring at the mother and she did not see it just when me thought she was finally free to go and get ready for work and I started arguing in their room they rushed out mommy he took my belt no he took by shoe.
They both ran to the sitting room shouting and pushing each other. Everybody keep quiet. Miss snapped angrily. Chi, your belt is on the fridge. Anuka, your shoe is under the table for crying out loud. And that is how the two of them will foolishly go there and they will still sight the shoe. And the other saw his belt and none said thank you to her.
Finally, when Messa entered the kitchen, the rice was already done. She turned off the gas, set plates, dish out everybody’s food, and then still went to go and check her brother’s school bag. She make sure their homework was done, assignments done, and notebook completed before Miss will now go and take her bath and get ready to go to work.
Everybody needed her. Everybody called me. Nobody asked, “Messo, do you need help?” Mama endured all this, hoping that one day she would be appreciated for what she’s doing for the family. But something happened. Something broke her. It was the weekend. Her father sat on the table eating and scrolling through his phone. He does nothing.
And he never allowed the boys to do anything too. Her mother was in the room standing by the mirror tying her scarf complaining about her boss. Chi was still fighting a Buka. Their mouth were chewing but their eyes were already throwing slaps. Miss moved from kitchen to table. She carried two plates. She went back for another.
Someone had left wet shoes in the middle of the kitchen floor and Miss did not see them. And something very very bad happened to her. She was carrying a hot water on her hand. She wanted to use it and do Ebar. When her left foot hit the shoe, she slide and the boil of hot water in her hand, poured and splashed on her right foot.
The pain shook her like an electric. Ah, Jesus. Miss screamed. Her foot burnt and the plate on the other hand it fell off and broke into pieces. She stood on one leg hissing. Her father looked up. Why are you shouting like that? It’s too early for noise. The mother entered the kitchen. Uhhuh. You’re too emotional. This girl sming like this.
You’re shouting. Is it not just hot? It will cool and it didn’t even pour directly on your leg. It splashed. The two brothers laughed. Drama queen M was standing there looking shocked. She was so quiet, speechless. She doesn’t even know where to start from. The pain in her leg was strong.
But another pain deeper old that was stronger. It was the pain of so many years. So many years of being called anytime for anything. Years of doing work she did not create. years of hearing firstborn duties instead of thank you. When summer claimed the tears on her eyes, she did not cry anymore. She didn’t even shout. She was just standing there like a statue holding visible load.
The father turned and looked at her again. Why you standing there? What is it again? Water for me. But the next tears that strewn down me’s eyes. She didn’t know when it came. She stood there. She wanted to strangle everyone in that house. She was not getting herself anymore. She just turned, cleaned her hand and said, “I am done.” The room went quiet.
The mother turned sharply. Done with what? She asked me. Mess looked at each one of them slowly as if she was seeing them for the first time. I am done with everybody in this house. I am done with cooking, done with cleaning, done with shouting, done with waking up on time to babysit adults. I am done with being everybody’s remote control in this house. See, I am no longer the first B.
I resigned from today. For a second, the only sound was the ticking wall clock. Then charted laughing. Uhhuh. Funna clapped. Fborn does not have resign button now. What are you talking about, sister? But father thought she was joking. My dear, will you sit down and stop talking rubbish? If it’s for the hot water that poured you, we are sorry.
Eh, everybody is stressing. You’re not the only one with problems. So, my dear, and the mother did not disappoint. See me see trouble. So, who will be the first born now? Is it me? I beg, my dear, carry your cross. You are just tired and you’ll be fine. But Mama did not laugh. She walked to her small room. She closed the door and she start packing her bags.
And in less than 15 minutes, she came out carrying her bag holding her ATM and her phone. The mother was looking confused. Mama, where are you going? M I’m going out. Out to where? Food is not yet finished. are dirty. Your brothers need help. Miss Omar left out a loud laugh. E. You people don’t see me finish for this house.
Daddy, from today I am just your daughter, not your unpaid house manager. My brothers are old enough to help themsel. You and your wife, you are super strong. There’s nothing wrong with your hands and your legs. I am the only one with one leg now. What nonsense are you talking about? Where’s your man’s mother? Asked her. So you want to abandon your family? Wait, I hope it’s not that Tik Tok that you are watching every day that is teaching you this nonsense.
Mama, don’t put blame on social media. I am not abandoning you or anyone in this house. I am leaving you with your own work. I am tired of carrying what is not mine. She thought to her brothers, “To you chi, you are 16. You are tall enough to play football. You are tall enough to wash plates, wash your own clothes, even make food.
” But your father or should I say our father said that boys does not work. They need to be pampered. They will grow up, become the men of the house. Do you need to master how to work and earn money and the kitchen are left for women? Well, papa, I am sorry to break that rules today.
If these boys at his age do not go and learn how to survive, normal survival skills a normal human being supposed to know like washing plates, washing clothes, cooking, and keeping your environment tidy. at his age. I don’t really know what you’re teaching them. Anyways, I would have left earlier. I didn’t know why it took me this long to be here.
A boy of 16 years old keeps his pants dirty for me to wash. He doesn’t clean up after himself. In fact, I practically babysit a teenager that is trying to be an adult. This one is no longer teenager safe. Anyways, thank God I received sense on time. As for you, Abuka, you are 13.
All you know how to do is to run your mouth like a typewriter. You can press phone, you can press broom, too. You’re no longer a baby too. If I were you, when I leave this house, follow your mother around and let her teach you basic things to know as a boy. It is parents like you that are spoiling men of today that will wake up tomorrow to go and get married to a woman that will come and be babysitting them.
So a woman that will become their house help to a woman that will be the one that will be carrying the whole family and they will never assist for one day. That training starts from the parent. But you all you are doing as if being a man is a big deal and being a woman is not a big deal.
Abby the father then asked her so after all this lecture where are you going well I’m going to rest papa thank god I have a job I will go and stay with one or two of my colleague I need to think reset myself I need to remember that I’m a human being not a remote control that came to this world to come and suffer for those silly adults and two of you as a man was trying to leave the house the Mother shouted, “If you step out of that door, e don’t bother coming back home.
Don’t come back here crying. I will never open the door.” Well, mama, I’ve already weigh my choices. I would rather go and cry. Pick up the piece of my life and move on than being here and being used like rag. You people will be the ones to know how it feels to cry when the firstborn is gone. Me walked out like a queen leaving a palace.
For the first 5 minutes, nobody moved. Everybody was shocked. No one knew that only Summer could take such a drastic step. Then the father had to break the silence. Well, I know she’s just bluffing. She would come back. She’s just forming like a film star. When hunger holds her hair, she will return. The mother contributed. Yeah, I will not beg her.
After all, I suffered to give birth to her, trained her. This generation of children are very rude. She will not last outside there. I know it. She likes this house so much. Before night she would call. You will see. They all believed that rubbish. After all, where will she go? She had work in town. Her clothes were here.
Her family are here. She would come back. They continued their money as if nothing happened. The mother left for work while the father went to the bathroom to go and beat. Chi and Ibuka switched on the TV to start watching that early morning. The rice pot sat on the table. Plates were still in the zinc unwashed. Their uniform are scattered everywhere.
But they never knew that the next morning would show them Pepe. The first sign of trouble came very early the next day around 5:30 a.m. Normally by that time the house would already hear me man’s voice shouting Chady Bua stand up bait school will not bait for you but on that new day there was silence no broom sound no court cover sound no firstborn voice only their father’s snore and only one mosquito singing near someone’s ear by 6:15 a.m. Still nobody had moved.
Finally their mother opened one eye. She looked at the time. Her heart jumped. Jesus we daddy wake up. What is this? Why are you shouting? The husband asked her. Oh, you have forgotten your daughter is not here to wake us up. You better stand up. Go and wake the boys. Me I will start running water for bit. And for the first time their father wake up and went to the boy’s room. himself.
He pushed their door open. Chi and Ibuka were still sleeping as if they were in coma. Would you stand up? You people want to marry sleep? What sort of children is this? She blinked. Uhhuh. Where is sister me on her? She has gone. You people chase her away with your stress. Now move. Meanwhile, in the kitchen, the mother entered.
There was no water in the kettle, no pot on fire, and the rice unwashed. Oh God, Miss Wma, why did you leave this house? And that was how the day started. She washed the rice anyhow, put it on the gas, and she went to go and iron her office shirt. And that was how she forgot the rice and the pot began to smell when it started burning.
And that was how the rice turned to burnt offering. By the time the mother realized and remember that she was cooking, she had put rice on the fire. The rice had turned black. As if that was not enough, the second sign of madness came from the washing machine. Normally on school days, Mama would wash uniform the night before, but yesterday she resigned. Nobody remembered.
The boy’s school uniform was smelling. The mother now pointed. Why are the two of you moping at me? Put them in the machine and wash them now. Ch oided. He poured soap. He did not even measure it. He just opened the liquid soap and poured as if it was a watering farm. Then he added powder soap too. He then added bleach.
There small fabric softener. Eduka was watching and was confused. Are you sure? She screamed, “Leave me now. I know what I’m doing. Okay. And that was how they turned the machine on. At first, it was fine. Then after some minutes, foam began to grow. Small at first, then more and more. It flowed out of the machine like evil snow.
It crawl across the floor, cold and wet. Gi look shouted. Snow. The phone rushed towards them and the two of them started running and was calling their mother. Mommy, mommy, phone is chasing also. They screamed as they were running. The mother ran out from the bathroom. When she saw the floor, she put her hands on the head. Hey, what did you people do? You want to turn my house into River Niger? She jumped, tiptoed through the phone, and turned the switch off.
It was now 7:20 a.m. School starts at 7:45. Chi was still in too well. Apuka could not find the second shoe. Where are my socks? Chi shouted. Mommy, where are my socks? The mother angrily snapped. Am I your socks? Eh, look for it when you remove it. At your age, you cannot keep your socks very raw. He now start looking for it under the chair, under the bed, behind the door.
Still, he couldn’t find the socks. Finally, he wore two different colors. Green on the left and black on the right. Eduka couldn’t find his notebook. Sister Mama always arrange it for me, he said. He was really crying because the teacher said they will flock them if they do not present those notebook. Well, you will have to arrange it yourself today.
The father shouted from the sitting room. In the middle of all of this, their mother had to put the bone fries on plates. They will have to eat it like that. When the boys saw it, they were really shocked. Uhhuh. Mama, are we eating charcoal? Yes. So, yeah, I will not cook another rice. So, we eating charcoal. Close your nose and eat it.
We don’t have time. Mo, we don’t have time. Finally, they all trampled out of the house like people escaping fire. Yet, they went out very late. And as they were leaving the house, the neighbors could not stop gossiping. Mama e that was standing by the balcony. A woman that her mouth cannot keep one place. See them now.
They have seen the value of firstborn. Just one day of summer leaving the house. Hey, see this one. Oh, look at the boy’s uniform. Very rough and squeezed. Look at the father’s shirt. not ironed now. Wow. So this girl has been their maid all this while. They can now see her value. Thank God she left. Look at how she was babysitting adults.
She tried sh by evening when everybody came back. They were all tired. The mother came back with headache. Her boss had shouted severally at her. She forgot one file because of the morning wala. The boys came back from school moody. Ch has things on his shirt. Anuka had the wrong book for class and the teacher ended up punishing him severally.
The washing machine area was still wet the same way they left it in the morning. They came back and still met it that same way. The kitchen, the rice spots still left the same way. And there is a lot of plates in the zinc for washing. When their father came back as usual, he saw how messy the whole house was.
The man was really ashamed of himself. He missed his first daughter that usually welcome him. Daddy welcome and whenever he comes back home, there is already smell of food and the whole house are clean. It was then dawn on him that he really did bad. Not only him, his wife also. So he called everybody to the sitting room.
They all gathered and for a while everywhere was quiet. Finally he sighed deeply and started talking. See my wife we turned our daughter into a house help. How say that now? She was only doing her duty as the first child. No, France born is not the same as slave. Now pays ner bills for pay for water buy food. Miss cook woman wakes up before everyone in this house.
She helps you helps me help these boys. And what did we give her? Complain insults. You are still emotional. And you boys, when was the last time you tell your sister thank you for everything she has been doing for you? And you, the mother, you carried her in your womb for 9 months, but you forgot she’s human. You thought she’s a strong person that she cannot break.
Now that memor has broken. We are now seeing how much she was holding. She really carried this house like her own. But we treated her bad when she had a little home accident. We treated it at nothing. We showed no emotions. That is very bad and we need to correct that immediately. Tomorrow morning, nobody is leaving this house for work or for school.
We are all going to look for her. All of us. We will go as family and we will go and beg her. Not for her to come back here and be doing slave for us. At least let us know where our daughter is. We will bring her home with honor and when she comes back home the house shores and everything will be shared equally. The mother also noted I did her wrong.
Oh, as a mother I’m supposed to be the one to shield my child but I’m the one that pushed her away. I was only about my work my work. My work and I forgot that my daughter was also suffering. Tai Messo, I am so sorry. Meanwhile, Mess went to go and stay with a colleague that stays alone. Her friend at work.
Ever since she has been staying there for the first time in a long time, her shoulders were not tight. Her friend had so many mis calls from her mother, her daddy, and her brother Chi. She saw them all, but she didn’t pick it. She felt free. She felt so so good being on her own. I’m not responsible for anything.
Even her friend teased her that she’s really trying because see as a first child to cannot carry what she’s carrying. She did not come for this one to go and suffer for people. But thank God she walked away. After they all finished discussing, they went to bed. The next morning they went to work and immediately Miss stepped inside the office.
She saw her father, mother and two brothers and she was shocked. The next thing that happened even shocked her more. The father knelt down. The mother knelt down followed by the two brothers. Miss was so shocked. She wasn’t expecting such. The father knelt down and started talking. Me, my daughter. We came to beg you. Please stand up.
People are embarrassing me now. Let them look. The father said they must learn from our foolishness. We did you wrong. We treated you like a housekeeper instead of a child. We poured all our work on you and call it firstborn duty. We did not say thank you. We did not even ask you how you feel. We made you carry our laziness. We are so sorry.
Yes, my daughter me. I use you a stick to beat the boys. Look at your sister. Be like your sister. I forgot you are not a log of wood. You are flesh. You get tired. I am sorry my love. My first fruit. Please forgive me. Then the boys. We are sorry. I always call you when I needed something.
I never called you just to say thank you. Please forgive me. Forgive us. Even though me was really angry, but seeing that her heart melted. You guys should stand up. Please stop kneeling for me. It’s abnormal. Is weird. My boss is looking. Well, I needed to leave because I was losing myself. I love you people. Oh, I miss you guys so much.
But love is not slavely. I’m not a generator. I’m not a robot. I’m your daughter. I am your sister’s. You coconut head. I am not your second mother. I accept your apology. But if I must come back, things must change. I’m not coming back to come and start slaving for anybody. There must be clear work for everyone and I must rest too.
If not, if I go out of that house again, I’m not coming back. The father agreed. Yes. Yes. We’ve already agreed before coming. Everybody will have something doing we’re not going to leave the responsibility to you, my dear. We messed up the first time and will not do it the second time. After Miss Summer forgive them, they hugged it out and the people at the office started clapping for them.
By the time she returned, she had already written list of things that should be done. On Monday to Wednesday, Chi will clean the whole house, including the kitchen, the sitting room, their own room, and the parents room. And Ibuka would wash plates that Monday to Wednesday. In the kitchen, the mother would cook from that Monday to Wednesday.
From Thursday to Saturday, she will take over the kitchen only at night. While the father will do breakfast for everybody. Chi and Ibuka will also continue their chores of washing plates and cleaning the house. On Sundays, Chi and Ibuka will cook for the whole house. After Miss write down all this list, they all agreed and that was how they start putting in work.
and peace restored to the family. Those grown up boys who are supposed to know basic things learned it by force. And that was how kids return to the family. Next time if you see a firstborn, please hug them so much. They are really really trying. Even though I’m not the firstborn sh, but I understand.
