HE Invited All His Whole Family To New Mansion,Without Telling His…#story #folktole #tales – Ty
Many years ago, in the beautiful city of Enugu, there lived a beautiful married woman named Sophia. On a Thursday morning, she stood in front of her own door, her own house, holding the key to the house. Her own name was on the document. She stood proudly in front of that doorway and did not move for a full minute.
Not because she was scared, because she needed to feel it. She had worked so hard. Four years of saving, four years of a separate account she fed monthly without touching it. Four years of spreadsheets and arguments about tiles and layout, the finest that would fit the house. That house she was standing in front of was the first thing in her adult life that was entirely and officially and legally hers.
Her husband, Williams, was standing beside her proudly. He then said to her, “Welcome home, my love.” And that was when she opened the door and walked inside. She walked to the kitchen first, inspected everything. She then walked to the rooms one by one. She was opening the cupboard, inspecting everything that was in the house to make sure they were of standard.
After she was done, she smiled proudly. And the next day, she and her husband moved inside the house. She arranged everything the way she wanted it to be kept. That same day, Sophia’s best friend and sister visited. Her name was Gift, and when she arrived, she was really surprised. The house was massive, beautiful, and she didn’t expect it to be that big.
Sophia, oh my you outdid yourself. This house is beautiful. Sophia laughed. My dear, I didn’t even know that I was building something massive as this until the day I came. The roofing was done, the windows were placed, and I looked at myself and said, “Wow, Sophia, are you the one that built this? Girl, I’m proud of myself.
I’m following your footstep. What are friends for?” The two of them started laughing. Yes, my dear. It’s good to follow footstep because even me, when I was building mine, I never knew it would cause trouble in the future. Sophia’s smile disappeared. What do you mean? Oh, I didn’t tell you the latest gist. My husband that I thought was accommodating, that won’t be jealous of my progress, my sister, the man woke up one morning and decided that the house should be in both our names.
A house he did not contribute a dime. A house I started building before we met. A house I actually completed a night before we got married. Sophia’s mood changed. Come on. Don’t come and change my mood now. I just moved into my house. I deserve to be very happy today. Uh I’m not telling you should not be happy.
Just that you see these men, do not expect much. I’m not saying your husband is bad, but just be very careful. If you know where to go and keep your house document, if it’s your mother or your father or any of your siblings, better go and give it to them because that was what saved me. Or better still, you go to a bank and save it in a saving box.
See, human beings are just unpredictable, and they do things the way we don’t like. So, you mean your husband is now I’m not property with you? Sophia, he’s not only fighting property with me. His family joined hands. They never knew that I owned the property until the mother-in-law came for Omugwo when I gave birth to Amanda, my beautiful baby girl.
His mother came and she turned to a devil. A beautiful woman that when I visited, she was so good and nice to me. She turned to a devil, you know. She was now telling me, “Ah, you are enjoying, you know.” She was now telling the son, “How can you guys be living in this kind of massive house and we are suffering in the village.
You need to come and build something like this for us.” Instead of my coconut head husband to tell the mother that this house does not belong to him. ; ; The house belongs to me and the house has been existing before we got married. I only allowed us to move inside because I do not want to reduce my standard for any man and I told him, “This is my life. I’ve worked so hard for it.
I built this house and it will remain in my name, but we’re going to live in it. Don’t worry about landlord wahala. You will stay here, save up, build your own and if you want us to move, we’ll move. If I’m to rent it out, fine. If I’m to lease the house, fine. But I’m not selling, you know. My husband agreed. He was so loving.
Now, all of a sudden, the mother wants a mansion in the village and he felt like the right thing to do is to put his name on the papers so that he will pretend as if eh eh I am the man of the house. I’m just telling you to prepare for anything because that man can wake up one morning and change. Especially if he’s the type that the parent, especially the mother, control.
But Sophia doubted it immediately. No. No, it’s not possible. My husband is not like that. Williams, come on. Williams is so happy. Like he’s even more happier than me moving into this house because we have to avoid rent wahala. You know what we’ve been through now in this neighborhood because of landlord and their stupid increase in rent.
I had to rush off, finish up this house, and we’re moving so that we avoid increments every year. My husband was grateful. He was so happy. I don’t think he would change. Sophia’s friend gift smiled. I pray. And that’s was how they continued what they were doing. Sophia assisted her in arranging the house, the remaining things, and by evening she went home.
Sophia and Williams were living peacefully. They cooked together. They have not welcomed any child because they got married just two years ago. Actually, Sophia bought that land and started building before she got married to Williams. They have not had any child yet. They made a plan to wait till after two years before they start trying for a child.

And two years is already knocking on the door before they now moved into their own house. They felt comfortable, and Sophia felt it is now time for her to take in. So, that evening she called her husband and decided to have a conversation with him. Babe, see, this is our year two in marriage, and we concluded that by this year we should start trying for a baby.
Williams was so happy. Yes, of course. We’re going to start trying for a baby. So, when is your next ovulation? Let us start immediately. Look at the kind of house we’re living now. We need children to be running around. The two of them were in agreement, and they both were very happy. But that happiness did not last.
They only stayed in that house for only eight weeks, two months, and one Friday morning the both of them were woken by a loud knock and with noises outside the house. When Sophia came down from the room, opened the sitting room door, and to her surprise, William’s mother, Barbara, his brother, Tochukwu, and his sister, Chioma, were standing at her door.
Sophia froze. She stood there and looked at the three of them from head to toe, one after the other. She was not expecting them. Williams did not tell her anything about the family members visiting, so she was really surprised seeing them standing there. Immediately, Williams came down and Sophia turned towards him.
There, the face told her everything. Williams had known. He had known that his family were coming and he said nothing, not even a text, not even to mention it since they were having conversation of having a child the previous night. The next thing Williams did was, “My people, ah, mama.” She had to move Sophia by the side.
“Welcome. Come in, come in, come in. People should come in, come in.” The way William’s mother walked in, as if she’s the new landlady, with her shoulders high, as if the house already belonged to her, or she was coming to do an inspection. She came in and her eyes glanced through everything in the house, the decor, everything.
She then turned towards Sophia. “So, you cannot greet your in-laws?” “Good morning, mama. I’m sorry for my behavior. I did not expect any of you to be here this morning. That was why I was shocked and surprised and I even forgot my manners. I’m so sorry. Good morning, mama. Welcome.” “Am I supposed to take permission to come and see my son again?” William’s mother replied Sophia.
“Mama, at least you guys should have informed him ; ; and he would have told me.” “And who said I did not inform Williams before coming? I told my son before coming, but I don’t think it’s reasonable to call you. He’s the man of the house, so I’ve told him. It’s his duty to tell you.
And if he didn’t, maybe he forgot. So, two of you should sort yourself out. And don’t look at me as if I’m an intruder that just came inside your house just like that.” “Anyways, this my son’s house is beautiful, oh. He told me that you guys moved into the new mansion and I was wondering how this new mansion will look since there is no child yet.
He also explained that uh you guys said you want to wait for 2 years before having a child, which is understandable. At least you’ve achieved something like this, which is good. So, it’s now for you guys to pop babies and bring babies into this world to occupy all this space. But, since this house is too big for the two of you to stay, I came with my children to keep you guys company just for a while.
” Sophia was still looking confused. “Mama, did you say for a while with all those luggages behind you? This is not for a while, oh. It’s as if you guys are moving into my house permanently to come and be my housemate.” Immediately, Williams’ mother hushed her. “Your house? Please. This is my son’s house. Don’t claim what is not yours.
” It was as if Gift, Sophia’s best friend, was a prophet when she told her not to expect much from a man. It was as if the script is now replaying in front of her. She wanted to talk, but Williams cut in between. “Mama, please, don’t start. You’re welcome. I will show you to your rooms, okay?” Williams assisted the mother and the siblings did not even greet Sophia.
They walked in proudly and nonchalantly. And William showed them their rooms. Sophia angrily entered her bedroom waiting for her husband to come and meet her. And in no time, Williams appeared. After that begging, “Babe, please, I’m sorry. I know you are angry, but I totally forgot. And I don’t want to fold my hand in front of my mother.
You know that woman, she’s too dramatic. Please. I knew they were coming. I’m sorry for not telling you. And as for the house, I told her I was the one building. Please, for now, let us maintain it like that. I want my mother to have some little respect where I am. She always compare me with my brother that is doing well.
He owns a house. I just wanted to feel among. So, please, I need you to play along for now. Do not be angry and I promise you, they will not stay for long. That is my promise.” Sophia was quiet for a while and then she replied Williams, “First of all, you forgot that your parent, your mother, rather, and your two siblings are coming to my house.
And secondly, you lied to her that you built this house. Are you okay at all? This is what I don’t like with Williams. The insult that will be coming from your mother’s mouth now will be double. I use God and beg you, sort this thing out or I will boldly go there and tell your mother that this house does not belong to you.
Your one naira is not inside. I wasn’t expecting this house to be an issue, but if it to be an issue, ; ; I prefer we go back to landlord Wahala. I don’t like trouble. You know me. The reason why I rushed this house is because of still the landlord Wahala. I don’t like headache. So, your mother should not come inside this place and make it so unhealthy and uncomfortable for me. I will not take it.
Sophia angrily walked out on him. Meanwhile, as they were both arguing in the room, Sophia and Williams, Williams’ mother, Barbara, and her daughter, Chuma, was already in the kitchen rearranging things to their taste. They have no say to do, but they were already rearranging things. The mother was instructing Chuma where to put the spices.
Please change the position of that spoon. I don’t like it. Since I’m going to be making food for my son in I want everything to be in order. Is it the sitting room? It was properly rearranged that same day. 2 hours later, when Sophia was done getting ready for work, she wanted to come down, make breakfast, eat, and leave for work.
When she came down, she was now surprised to see her sitting room rearranged, her kitchen, everything she kept the way she wanted it to be was not where she kept it. And she was already running late. She screamed William’s name, and he came down. He then asked him, “What on earth happened in this kitchen? Someone came in here and rearranged my stuff.
Who has the audacity?” William started begging again. Calm down, babe. I think it’s my mother that did that. You know, she bought some food stuff, plenty food stuff for us, so and she intend to be cooking. Maybe she rearranged it so that it would be easier. You know, she’s a she’s an old woman. Please, don’t be angry.
See, I will personally drop you.” Sophia did not let him complete that statement. She walked out of the kitchen, grabbed her bag, entered her car, and left for work angrily that morning without eating. It was then Williams called his mother, his sister, and his brother down, and sat them down. Mama, welcome to my home.
I have one simple question. How long are you staying? Maybe a month, maybe more. ; A month? Williams was shocked. What do you mean by a month? As how now? See, me and my wife just moved into this house. We need to enjoy our new space. What do you mean by a month? Are you coming from Umuowa? The last time I checked, Sophia is not pregnant.
See, a month is too much, oh. I will only allow you people to stay here for at least 2 weeks. 2 weeks maximum. And the two of you, Chijioke and Chuma, what are you even doing here with Mama? Are you not supposed to be hustling to see if you will get admission and be useful with your lives for once? Chuma decided to go first.
Uh um brother, uh I wrote Jamb, oh, but the university I wanted not give me admission. It was one year year polytechnic that gave me admission. Me, I cannot go to that kind of school, oh. So, I decided to learn how to bake here in the city. So, I’m here to stay, oh, and I will assist you and your wife in anything you want.
Williams looked at her from head to toe. Are you on coolers? What do you mean you are here to stay? Who did you discuss that one with? You are not here to stay anywhere. I can’t remember my wife saying that she needs any house maid in this house or any house help. We are managing just fine.
When Mama is leaving in 2 weeks time, you are following your mother. You are not staying here. And you, Chijioke, what is your own excuse for coming here? The last time I checked, you are a graduate. You are supposed to be looking for work. At least, start up something for yourself. Brother, in this Nigeria Chijioke asked Williams, “Ha, it’s not possible, oh. I’m your younger brother.
You that is working, is it not by connection that you got the work you are working for?” I have been job hunting for years and I’ve not been able to get any job. So, I came here. If there is any business you can help me start. Though, I have plenty business idea. I came here so that two of us we talk.
You know, but that for you to be this kind of house, that means you have money, oh. You have to help your younger brother start up a business. Business? Me that I gave you 2 million naira 2 years ago to start up a business. So, what happened to that one? We know You know we are in the village. That business could not do anything.
It went down just like that. Those village people were doing rubbish. And at the end of the day, the business just died. So, I’m here. Now that I’m in the city, where people will be buying and I’ll be selling fast, fast. Instead of having stock in my shop for a long time, nobody will buy. Brother, please, do not worry.
As far as I say you cooperate with me, you give me money to start business, I’m out of your house in 2 weeks. Brother, I don’t have any problem with that. It was then Williams knew that he was in for a long ride. The mother now told him, “I don’t know what you’re talking about, oh. I am not leaving here in 2 weeks’ time.
I am staying here for 1 month or more. If your wife does not like it, ha, ; ; let her be the one to pack and leave. I’m not here to share anything with anybody. You are my son. I raised you. So, I am here to reap the fruit of my labor. And in case I forget, make sure you tell your wife to come back on time to cook food, oh.
Because me, I will not be entering with my leg. I will only enter when I want to make my special local soup. Apart from that, she’s making food for us. We are guests in this house. As Williams was standing there, he was already sweating. He immediately picked up his bag and left for work. As he got to the office, his colleague noticed how absent-minded he was.
And then asked him what the problem was. I think I’m in a very big hot soup. What happened? I know you now. You are a good husband. You have been a good husband to Sophia. Did Sophia do something or are you the one that offended her? It’s not even about me doing anything. This morning, my mother arrived with my two siblings.
And whenever you hear my mother, you hear trouble. Guy, this woman said she’s not leaving. That she’s going to stay for 1 month. My two siblings are even making the situation worse because no matter what I say, my mother will stand by them. They’re going to make that house very uncomfortable for my wife and I know Sophia.
When she’s done, ah, everybody will collect, including me. I think I messed up by telling my mother that I’m the one that built the house. If to say I told her the truth, she wouldn’t have arrived here with my siblings claiming rights. But why would you tell your mother you built a house why you didn’t? Williams, at your age, ; [snorts] ; ah, you are lying this kind of lie? You are over 30 years. You are a man.
You should be able to stand up to your mother. You are matured. You’ve been married for 2 years. I thought maturity should have kicked in by now. Are you trying to lick someone’s feet or hand? I don’t understand. Your own mother, the woman that gave birth to you. See, gone are the days where we do things to appease someone, especially our mothers who are now very greedy and unnecessarily troublesome.
I know my own mom and I avoided her to the last when it comes to something that belongs to me or my wife. I no dey tell her anything, no. I built the house we are living, but I lied it was my wife. My mother respected her so much, even pampering her. And it reached your turn. Instead of you to say the truth, you went and lie.
So that you will feel what? You will feel like a big man that you are the one that built the house that your one naira is not inside. See, if I’m Sophia, I will kick you, kick your mother and your siblings out of the house and lock my door. I will not allow my sister to suffer any stupidity from so-called in-laws.
If I were you, go home and go and correct that nonsense now because you brought trouble upon yourself. Sophia will not go home and be facing unnecessary insults, intimidation on a property that belongs to her. This is the only advice I can give you as a good friend and a colleague. Go and clean up this mess.
You are the one that will lose at the end. Your mother will go back to her husband soon. Your siblings will go back to their normal life, but you, you will lose your wife, lose your home, probably lose this job because it was because of your wife you got this job. Foolish man. His colleague angrily stood up from his office and left.
It was as if he was snapped back to reality for a while. But for some minutes, he changed his mind from not saying a word. By evening, Williams and Sophia got home at the same time. Immediately they were stepping inside, Williams’ mother instructed Sophia to enter the kitchen and make food. You came back late.
Don’t you know you have guests at home? You should be able to come back earlier and make food for us. Sophia still managed to greet Barbara. Good evening, Mama. See, I don’t need your greeting. Williams’ mother faced her. I need you to go to the kitchen and make food. We are hungry. Sophia then questioned what Choma and Tochukwu has been doing since morning.
You people are guests in this house. I understand. But you are not strangers. This is your son’s house as you claimed. Why can’t Choma, as old as she is, not enter the kitchen and make food that I, after going to work, I will come back and eat myself? Or you didn’t teach her how to cook? Or better still, you can’t go in there and make food for your son.
You claimed you are here to take care of him. You bought plentiful stuffs. I noticed that you people changed my kitchen the way I set it. I’ve not complained yet. And I just stepped inside my house to go and rest a little bit, and you are telling me to go to the kitchen and make food for you. As how? Sophia turns out to be a lady that does not tolerate rubbish.
She turned towards Williams. Mr. man, you better ; ; coordinate what is going on in this house. Nobody, I repeat, nobody should speak to me disrespectfully. If not, you know the consequences. Sophia angrily took her things and entered her bedroom. While Williams was standing there, looking at his own mother in a very sad way.
Mama, I told you not to give my wife any trouble. Did I not beg you? Then what is the meaning of this? We just came back after a long day at the office. And this is what you do. You tell her to enter kitchen. Sophia is not a village girl. She was not picked up from the gutters. This is someone that have lived life, touched money.
If you don’t want her to insult you, if you don’t want her to embarrass you, you better respect yourself, mama. And she was telling the truth. Why didn’t you or Chuma and Ijeaku enter the kitchen to make food that I and my wife would eat when we come back? So, you want her to come and serve you in this 21st century? This is 2026, mama.
Not 2025 or 2026 or even 1990. You better show my wife respect. I will not save you when you start. Williams left the mother speechless and walked inside the room. Sophia immediately, as she entered the bedroom, she ordered food online, only for herself. And in less than 30 minutes, the people that she ordered food from arrived.
She went downstairs, picked up her food, and went back to her room to go and eat. She had made up her mind that nobody, no matter the person, would frustrate her in her own house. How Williams, the mother and siblings, sought themselves out that night, Sophia was not interested. But something happened in the middle of the night. Sophia could not sleep.
They were hearing noise from the other room. It turns out that Tochukwu was watching a movie. And also, the movie was so loud. It was already 1:00 a.m. Sophia went inside immediately and turned off the television. Why on earth would you be awake by 1:00 a.m. with a loud movie on? You don’t want other people to sleep? If you don’t have work, some people in this house have work to do.
Don’t you ever in your life try this kind of nonsense again. Tochukwu was so angry. He was folding his fist as if he wanted to beat up Sophia in her own house just because she turned off the television that was disturbing her and preventing her from sleeping. Sophia walked out of that room and went back to sleep.
The next morning was on a Sunday, and a Sunday isn’t a day Sophia works. Sophia used Sunday to sleep, rest well. She also goes to church on Sundays, though not all Sundays, depending on how exhausting her week was. That particular Sunday, she didn’t want to go to church. As she stepped out of her room, she wanted to enter the kitchen to go and prepare breakfast for herself and her husband, when the mother-in-law stopped her again.
Good morning, Mama. Sophia greeted her, but she refused to acknowledge the greeting. Rather, she started yelling at Sophia. So, you turned off the television my son was watching yesterday because if you do have the right to let this be the first and last time you try to talk to my son or intimidate him, no matter what.
Tochukwu is older than you, in case you don’t know. Tochukwu is not your mate. That he’s not doing anything right now does not give you the right to insult him or embarrass him in his own brother’s house. Sophia then asked her one question. Do you know the time I off that television? Did your son tell you the time? But, William’s mother did not care.
I don’t care. No matter the time. It was 1:00 a.m. and he was interrupting my sleep with noise. This is not Tochukwu’s house. This is the house where his brother and wife owns and live. He has no right to interrupt my sleep in the middle of the night. And if he tries it again, I will kick him out of this house and nobody will do nothing.
That’s when hell broke loose in the house. William’s mother became very dramatic. She started crying and shouting William’s name to come down. When William came out of the room and asked what the problem was, the woman started laying accusation on top of Sophia’s head. Your wife beat me. She insulted me.
She told me that she will throw me out of your own house. Just because of what? Just because we want to come and visit. We have barely stayed here up to 2 weeks and your wife is making it so uncomfortable for us. Williams, please. This woman is not suitable to be your wife. I beg. Put her in her place immediately. You are the man of the house.
You can’t be here and let a woman be doing as she likes. You own this house. If she’s to stay here, you tell her how to behave. She has to serve her in-laws. Anything I want her to do, she will do. If not, you will send her back to her father’s house. What sort of thing is this? Make food for me yesterday, she was running her mouth.
Do this one for me, she’s doing anyhow. Because of what? Because you work in a company that this the same company that my son is also working. That is why what is what is giving you the morale, Abi? It’s not good for a woman to have more money than a husband because it brings disrespect. Now, see. See finish don’t enter. My son, do the needful, oh.
This woman cannot push me to the ground and you are here moping at her. Sophia then boldly turned towards Williams waiting for him to do the needful. But Williams started begging her. Babe, please. I’m sorry. Forget my mother’s drama, okay? Just go upstairs. Anything you want, I’ll bring it for you. But Sophia refused.
I am not stepping out of this place. You see today, eh, we are going to clear the confusion in this house today. The embarrassment and the insult I’ve been receiving for over 2 weeks will stop today. Now, where is that girl, Chioma? Sophia called her out and called out to Chuku. Everybody arrived at the sitting room. I have a very special announcement to make.
And if I don’t make that announcement, I will never be in peace. First of all, the three of you, Mama, Chuchu, and Chioma, you are leaving my house today. Williams started giving her eye begging her silently. But Sophia refused. If you don’t leave willingly, I will forcefully throw you out. Chuchu, you said you are older than me and I have no right to offer television in the middle of the night in another person’s house.
How is it your one error was not inside? Please go back to your father’s house and go and behave like that, not in my own house. Ever since two of you stepped inside my house, Chuchuku and Chioma, you don’t greet me. Is it good morning? Is it good evening? Or when you walk past me, you will hiss. Or make some stupid comments.
I would ignore, but not anymore. As for you, mama, I noticed you came here to come and create division. I noticed you came here to come and create trouble, but go and tell your village people that it will never work. Since your son do not want to tell you the truth, I will boldly tell you. The house that you have been claiming and shouting up and down belongs to me.
This house, this land was bought by me two years before I met your son and we got married. His one kobo is not in this house. The house document is bearing my name and my father’s name. Not even you people’s surname self. So, if this marriage will break, let it break. Williams know me. I’m a woman that don’t like trouble.
Anything that will give me headache, that will raise my BP, I try to avoid it. But since the three of you came into this house to come and make me start having unnecessary panic attack and always fearing to come out of my room, it will not work. And I repeat, it will never work. Not under my own roof, under my own money, I’ll be suffering.
It’s not possible. Now, the three of you will go in there, pack your things and get out of my house immediately. For you to come back here, you will officially call me and I will approve it. If I do not approve it, nobody will step foot in my house. In 2 hours, if the three of you are not out of here, I will help you and call the security, the estate security, to come and bundle you out with your things.
If you think I’m joking, ask your son. He knows I don’t bluff. Sophia left them there and went to the kitchen to go and make her breakfast. While William’s mother turned towards him, and Williams had no choice than to accept the truth. My mom is true. Three of you should go. I cannot lose my marriage. If I lose my marriage now, it will still be you that will laugh at me.
Go in there, pack your things, and go. The house belongs to my wife. I only lied just to make you feel proud. Do I know that you will come here and start displaying this kind of attitude? Please, go and pack your things, though. I will not be held if anything happens. Pack your things and get out of this place.
I love my wife, though, and I still want my marriage to work. The company that you are bragging your mouth, it was through her that I got the job. So, please, leave for peace’s sake. William did not even allow the mother to talk again. He immediately went to the kitchen to go and assist Sophia and also apologize.
The mother was speechless. Tears started running down her cheek. She felt humiliated, including the siblings. They quickly went in, packed their bags, and left without even saying goodbye. While Williams went and apologized to Sophia, and Sophia told him that she isn’t angry. At least they have left, and peace has returned to our home.
And that was how Williams and Sophia went back to the way they used to live, happily and uninterrupted by any family members. Sophia also shared the good news to her friend Gift, and she was so happy for her and also the way she dealt with them. If you were in Gift’s shoes, would you have taken the bull by the horn and send them straight back to where they are coming from? Or would you have endured like some women would just to cover up their husband’s shame? What would you have done? Tell me in the comment section, besties, and don’t forget to
