It was on a Tuesday evening when David Richards said five words to his fiance, Sophia. “You are lucky that I chose you.” He screamed on top of his voices. That evening, Sophia was in the kitchen. She was making egusi soup that evening for him. Because that’s what he requested for specifically in the morning before leaving for work.

Sophia, on the other hand, also had to go to work that same morning. So, on her way back, she got those ingredients from the supermarket nearby. When she got home, she was so exhausted. She decided to rest. And that was how she overslept. It was around 7:00 p.m. that she got herself back. And she entered kitchen quickly to go and prepare the egusi soup before David come back from work.

But to her surprise, David was already back. He was seated in the sitting room playing game and listening to music. Sophia greeted him, but David did not answer. So, Sophia entered the kitchen and started making the food as fast as she could so that she can beat time. As she was there rushing, preparing everything, cooking already, it was about 30 minutes later that David entered the kitchen and then said those five words.

“You are lucky that I chose you.” Sophia dropped what she was doing and turned towards him. She then asked him, “What does that mean? And where are all those words coming from?” David then angrily replied her, “I specifically told you that I want to eat egusi soup this evening. And you came back from work and you went and slept off.

You’re such a lazy person. You’re my fiance, you and you’re so lucky that I chose you. You’re so lucky that I made that decision. Cost only why? You did not listen to my instruction in the morning to prepare a good soup. I came back home here. I had to go and make cereal for myself while the madam of the house is busy laying down on the couch sleeping.

He then went further to say to her, “You see that food you are cooking? By the time you are done cooking it, you will eat it yourself and suffocate with it.” David then angrily walked out of the kitchen, grab his car keys, and left the house that night. Sophia was so so devastated. Look at someone she was trying to please, someone she was trying so hard to please as a husband to be, and also a man that she loved.

She was doing all those things with her heart, but she felt less appreciated. She dropped everything she was doing halfway and went back to sleep. She was so angry. And in that kitchen, Sophia made a very bold decision. Meanwhile, David Richards was 30 years old, and he had been comfortable his whole life. Not rich, just comfortable.

He was the brand manager at a telecom company in Lagos. Very good salary. He was also given a company vehicle, an apartment in Lekki. He has a very good dressing sense, and he spoke confidently. David had been dating Sophia for 2 years. And in those 2 years before he proposed on Sophia’s last birthday, David had always made Sophia to feel so special.

But after the engagement, it turns out everything changed. It’s as if David became a different person. Also, Sophia was just a 27-year-old girl who worked in HR as a consulting firm. And since then, he has been consistently calling her, making thoughtful plans, showing up when he said he would, asking questions about her life that made her feel genuinely seen.

For the past 1 year and half they’ve been dating, David seems to be a very intentional man. He doesn’t forget her birthdays. Any important occasion or any important date, David will not forget. He’s always punctual. He buys her gifts even when not asked. He sends her money even when not asked. That made Sophia to see David as a very unique and special human being.

And that made her to fall in love so deeply that sometimes what you see a red flag, you might just mistake it as someone who is trying to please you. Then comes Sophia’s 27th birthday. That was the day David decided to propose to her. Sophia was the happiest girl on earth. She accepted that proposal. The day she came back home announced the good news to the mother.

The mother was so happy for her. Then the mother sat her down and start asking her some questions. How long do you know this man? What he likes, the food he likes. Have you actually spent time with him? Sophia replied the mother that they have actually spent time, spent weekends, but she has not actually stayed long in the house with him.

Sophia listened to the mother and then called David and told David her plans of coming over to come and stay at least 4 weeks with him before they start prepping for their marriage.

David was so happy. He even liked the idea very well. He then invited her over just a week after Sophia called. Sophia packed up her bags and went to go and stay with David. When Sophia visited, the first week was okay. There was no issue, but from the second week Sophia started seeing a lot of things. At first, they would go out the days they couldn’t cook.

And if Sophia complained about a particular thing, maybe the food is not good or she doesn’t like the restaurant, they would always push her feelings aside and tell her to calm down, Sophia, that she’s being too difficult. It was as if David now brought out his self. He couldn’t hide himself anymore. He would go to the toilet and wee and he would mess up the toilet seat. He won’t clean it up. Then sat down on that same sitting room and start playing game. When he’s done playing game, he would start pressing his phone or going through social media to go and listen to one gossip or the other.

One evening during the third week, Sophia came back from work very exhausted. And she came back very late that day. She came back around 9:00 p.m. Only for her to start from the sitting room to see a messed up house to the kitchen to the toilet. And David had already slept off on the couch in the sitting room.

Sophia wanted to wake him up and ask him the meaning of the mess that she seen. She decided to clean it up. Maybe because he was exhausted from work. That’s was Sophia’s reason. She decided from the sitting room to the kitchen to the bathroom to the bedroom. She arranged everything that same night. And she finished in 2 hours.

After that, she was exhausted to go and make food. So I had to take only cereal and went to bed. The next morning, what woke Sophia up was a cup of water. David poured her a cup of water just to wake her up. Sophia woke up and was shocked to her bones. David, she called out to him. What is the meaning of this one now? See, this guy is not on your level. Red flags everywhere. It has not even been up to 1 month, the 4 weeks that you said you want to stay with him, and you have already seen premium shagging.

Then imagine how you will live with such a man for your lifetime. Imagine doing lifetime with this kind of person that really downgrade you, look down on you because he felt like he’s earning better than you. This kind of person will not be happy for you if you tell him that you’re getting a big contract or money big is coming into your account.

She had seen enough, and she does not want to see any more. As she finished packing her bags, and she came out to tell David that she’s no longer interested in the marriage. Everything is over. Because she can’t be with a man who is jealous and insecure about his own wife’s income that would help him when he’s down. He’s not even thinking about the future.

He’s thinking about his ego. That was when Sophia overheard him talking on the phone, talking to someone, asking him why he didn’t jeopardize the interview his wife did, and how come she got the job. Just then, Sophia walked in front of him, and he quickly ended the call. So, you made a call to make sure I didn’t get the job.
