Luis Miguel: The Star Who Burned the Women Who Loved Him – Hw
For decades, Luis Miguel was considered the heartthrob of all Latin America, the sun, the unattainable boy who could make his female audience tremble just by looking at them, and with romantic songs like “Entrégate, tengo todo excepto a ti” (Surrender, I have everything except you). Loving you is a pleasure.
The myth of the desired man grew ever larger. But as the saying goes, getting too close to the sun can also burn you. And that’s what many women who were involved with him experienced. They arrived full of hope, thinking they could be the exception, the woman who would finally make him stay, but they ended up enmeshed in their own world like planets revolving around the sun until they were exhausted.
In fact, there is a song in a Luis Miguel video that seems to summarize his entire love life, whether consciously or unconsciously. He confessed it to us in the super hit “La Incondicional” from 1989, because the lyrics say that while the woman is there waiting, loving unconditionally, he does love her, but in the end he also admits that he didn’t know how to love her.
And in the video, he’s a guy who leaves his girlfriend for his military career, he’s seen training, fighting in the war, a lot of discipline and it’s like a parallel with his artistic career because he was also trained to perform with a lot of perfectionism, discipline, very demanding and in the end this career also takes him away from the one who loves him.
And at the end of the video we see that while she cries, he feels fulfilled, he smiles, he is congratulated by his superiors, he receives recognition as if that were what really fulfills him and love ends up being secondary in his life. So the unconditional one shows us her dark side, the man that everyone waits for who doesn’t return.
And when it seemed that everything could change with Aracelia Arámbula, with whom he did form a family, had two children, and showed himself proud as a father, little by little everything broke down again. Luis Miguel returned to his old pattern of relationships without truly committing, and worse, he also faced the most painful accusations: being an absent father in his children’s lives and even as a child support debtor.
But this story goes far beyond a man with a lovestruck, unstable, or absent soul. And that’s what we’ll see in this video, everything about Luis Miguel’s evolution as an artist, but mainly as a person, from his great loves and family wounds to the public fall that forced him to tell his own story in a way of being reborn.
Because although he seemed to be an unattainable man, behind all that there is a human being hiding from everything that happened to him. And of course, we’re not Luis Miguel, but we do need to protect our information, our searches, and passwords. And that’s why I want to thank Sor Shark BPN for making this video possible.

And going back to Luis Miguel, I think that to understand why he conquered so easily but didn’t stay with any of them, we have to go back to the origin of the myth, the construction of a project child before he could decide for himself the disappearance of his mother, who was his emotional anchor and how that image of the sun ended up distancing him from his capacity
to love. The child prodigy. It all started with his parents. They met as young people in Argentina in 1967. Her father, Luisito Rey Gallegos, was 21 and her mother, Marcela Basteri, was 18. He was a singer of Spanish origin and she was a beautiful young Italian woman who had occasionally modeled.
Marcela’s father was very strict, so she also saw in falling in love with Luisito Rey a way to escape her father’s control without realizing that she was entering another, even worse form of imprisonment . But obviously that came later. At first, like everyone else, Luisito Rey was very charming, romantic, and very smooth-talking.
He played guitar, sang, and traveled between countries it seemed like an exciting life for Marcela to be with him. You know, all the love bombing from the first stage, he even wrote a song for her. Nothing in this world is worth anything if you’re not here, Marcela. Everything seems more beautiful with you, Marcela.
Years later, when Luis Miguel was already well into his singing career, he would bring his mother on stage to sing it to her in a very tender way. Luis Miguel was the first son. He was born on April 19, 1970 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. And he wasn’t born there because his parents were living there, but because his father was constantly moving from country to country looking for opportunities, pursuing the dream of succeeding, so it just so happened that the child was born there.
But at that time everything in the family was normal. A second son, Alejandro, was born two years after Luis Miguel in Spain, and so Luis Miguel’s early childhood was spent between Mexico, the United States, Venezuela, Italy, and Spain, which already marked a certain instability and lack of belonging in him.
But at that moment, his home was his family. Wherever his family was, his dad, his mom, his brother, he felt safe until his own family began to break up. During those early years, Luisito Rey continued to seek success with his own career, but as his success did not come, he began to turn his attention to his eldest son.
And yes, Luis Miguel has natural talent. From the age of 7, it is said that he would climb onto restaurant tables and public places to imitate Elvis Presley and make up song lyrics. The delighted people applauded him, it amused them, and Mickey was intrigued by the whole artistic life. But the questionable thing here is when his father began to see that as the solution to all his problems.
In 1980, when Luis Miguel was 10 years old, the family was going through a severe economic crisis . They were going from house to house in Mexico City and didn’t even have the money to return to Spain. Andrés García, a renowned Mexican actor, was a friend of Luisito Rey and lent him one of his houses in Mexico City so that they could stay there for a while.
And that’s when Luisito confessed to him that his son Mickey had a wonderful voice and made him listen to it. He was delighted with Luis Miguel’s talent, so he invited them to an upcoming show he had in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. They went and it was the first time Mickey performed live in front of hundreds of people and on that same trip they took the opportunity to have Luis Miguel appear on Chihuahua television on Arnoldo Cabada’s program when he was only 11 years old.
He sang the malagueña, reaching very high notes, and his father accompanied him on the guitar. Malaguería [song] salerosa your lips I would like to pass your lips I would like God powerful. [singing] And it’s interesting how Luisito Rey tried from that moment to sell Luis Miguel as a phenomenon before anyone knew him, because he told the presenter very exaggerated things, like that he was going to record a movie in Hollywood with Robert Redford and that the record label Emmy Capital was going to invest a million-dollar amount in his son. And according to
the biography King’s Gold, the only truth was that he needed to make his son successful in order to get out of his financial problems. We know he’s going to sign a film contract with Robert Ford, right? We know that you are being invested a very large amount, many millions of pesos, by the Capital brand, which apparently is the label with which you will record, your album will appear for the first time, it will be on Discos Capital.
So this one is going to be recorded, I understand, in the United States, right? Yes, it’s going to be filmed in the United States, and I think it’s going to be an exceptional thing, a success for him, for us, for Mexico, because it’s something that’s going to be done at the level of the Mexican industry for the whole world, and it’s something that makes me very proud, sincerely.
And dishonest, of course, but it’s clever how he presents Luis Miguel’s success as a success for all of Mexico. If he succeeds, all of Mexico succeeds. And since his father had inflated his ego so much, the people on the show asked him for more songs. People called in to say hello to this boy, because they truly believed they were witnessing an international phenomenon, which it later became, but at that moment it was just his first attempt on a local program.
And Luisito Rey concludes that it had all been his son’s idea and that he couldn’t deny his dreams. So, I don’t feel I have the courage to tell him, “No, no, you’re not going to be an artist.” I’m not a dictator, not even in my own home. So I consider it something I can’t prevent from happening to people, I mean, I can’t prevent it, and I want it to be that way.
The boy is an artist because he was born an artist, and he likes it, and how wonderful that it’s a source of satisfaction for the public, right? Thanks to Andrés García, they also met Arturo “El Negro” Durazo, one of the most powerful men in Mexico at that time. And without confirmation, but there are rumors that Luisito Rey forced his wife Marcela, Luis Miguel’s mother, to be with this man so that he would offer opportunities to his son.
It’s a very serious matter. And what is true is that suddenly doors opened for Luis Miguel to connect with politicians, businessmen, television, record labels, Televisa, without denying his talent, of course, but those are the versions that circulate. From there, Luis Miguel sang at the wedding of none other than the daughter of the president of Mexico at that time.
Paulina López Portillo. And at that same wedding, since there were also very high- profile guests, Luisito Rey convinced the executives at the record label Emy to all chip in so the boy could record his first album. “Un sol salió” (A Sun Came Out) was released in 1982, before he had even turned 12. The music had a childlike aura, with songs about school, roller skates, and dreams, while he drifted further and further from his childhood.
He was practically an elementary school child, transformed into a professional artist. All normalcy in his life ended. He never set foot in a classroom again and was only educated by private tutors. Also present at Paulina López Portillo’s wedding was the owner of Televisa, Emilio Azcárrega Milmo, and Arturo “El Negro” Durazo introduced Luis Miguel’s family to him so that he could intercede with Raúl Velasco, the host of the super-program “Siempre en Domingo” (Always on Sunday), which was a factory of Latin American idols. If you appeared on that show, you were
on the platform that could catapult you to stardom. And yes, Luis Miguel debuted on the show in 1982. It’s also very symbolic how he has the sun embroidered on his shirt, referencing his album, but also the creation of the character “El Sol” (The Sun), before Luis Miguel truly understood what it entailed. We are both in love with a sweet, free, and clear love in our dreams.
We gradually enclose the world in our hands. And yes, a sun can be unattainable, but it was also important for the Mexican people to feel that he was one of their own so they would support him. For years, Luisito Rey fostered the idea that Luis Miguel was Mexican, even that he was born in Veracruz, when in reality he was born in Puerto Rico and neither of his parents had Mexican roots.
That also played a significant role, so without a doubt, yes. Luisito Rey was very skillful he made connections, pushed for performances, opened doors, and put his son on the most important platform in Mexico, but that doesn’t justify his questionable methods, especially because the more successful Mickey became, the less opportunity he had to be free.
Luisito became more controlling and ambitious, demanding more from Luis Miguel. He isolated him, pushing him to work even when he was tired. By 1984, he was not only a young singer but also an actor. At that time, he was working on the film “Ya nunca más” (Never Again), and after the extremely long days of filming, his father would still take him to perform shows at night.
One of the strongest accusations against Luisito Rey is that he gave the boy substances to make him perform better. And the abuse wasn’t just professional he also pushed him to grow up too fast, to enter an adult world with adult themes, because the songs went from children’s songs to songs quite inappropriate for a 13-year-old.
On his side album, they included the single of the same name with explicit lyrics that refer to first time, not just hinted at, but practically literal things that even Mexican society in the 80s, which we know was quite different from today, took very badly—the voice of a child singing that kind of thing.
The record label had to release a censored version. It wasn’t just one song that was censored it was total. In ’84, when Luis Miguel was 14, he was going through all the changes of adolescence. His voice was getting deeper, and Luisito Rey panicked because now what were they going to do? If he couldn’t sell him as a child anymore, he wanted to sell him as an adult, and for that, he had to make him an adult right away.
And according to the Netflix series, which is told from Luis Miguel’s perspective—and he has said that it has some fictional elements—it shows how his father takes him to an adult woman, you know, so that he can be initiated into intimate matters, which I find extremely serious, even violent. And it makes it clear that, of course, Luisito Rey didn’t respect his son’s developmental stages when he had every right to experience everything in his own time.
And the worst part is that as Luis Miguel became more successful, he could see his mother less and less. She was relegated to a very secondary role in his life. And according to the biography *Oro de Rey*, before fame, Luis Miguel Marcela and Luisito Rey had a very beautiful relationship. She was a cheerful, affectionate woman, devoted to her children, but unfortunately, she was also trapped in a toxic relationship with Luisito Rey.
He wouldn’t allow Marcela to accompany them on tours or to all of their son’s professional engagements because Luisito wanted to be the sole manager, and Marcela was left at home alone with her son Alejandro, unable to work because Luisito wouldn’t allow it either. But while he was away, he committed multiple infidelities.
And the saddest part is that Luis Miguel began to get caught in the middle. He started acting as a kind of cover-up artist for his father. And in the midst of all this, Marcela became pregnant for the third time. So Luis Miguel said almost nothing. Perhaps to protect her, or perhaps because he was afraid of his father, or simply because he didn’t know what to do with this painful truth and preferred to keep it all to himself.
And so, in the midst of all this, Sergio, the youngest son, was born. The saddest case of the three, because in addition to being born prematurely at only six months gestation, he also… When his family was already broken. It was 1984, and although he thankfully survived, his arrival changed nothing in the family.
There was no peace or unity, and it certainly didn’t change Luisito. A year later, the family posed for Hola magazine as if everything were perfect. Success, love, family—but that was just a facade. At that time, Marcela was more depressed than ever, completely worn out. But meanwhile, young Luis Miguel’s career was booming.
Who would have thought that behind all this glitz there was so much darkness, so many secrets, so much pain? And it was during this period that he won his first Grammy for “Me gustas tal como eres” (I Like You Just the Way You Are) in a duet with Shina and Stone, at just 15 years old. The truth is, I still can’t believe it .
[laughs] You don’t believe it, but I’m so happy, right? Because , I mean, I never imagined I could win such an important award, something so significant in the world of music. Talking about you, singing about me. I wish I could To love you. I like you just the way [singing] you are. The wounded teenager. And if this weren’t already incredibly painful, something much stronger is coming.
Do you remember the song “Marcela” that Luisito Rey composed for her during the infatuation stage when everything seemed like love and promises? Well, when Luis Miguel sang it to her in Argentina in 1985, it was the last, or one of the last, times they were photographed together, so that video is a mixture of tenderness and tragedy, because you can see how much a son loves his mother, but it ‘s also the last time he sings to her.
” You have taught me the truth of our love, Marcela.” That same year, Marcela separated from Luisito Rey because she couldn’t endure so much infidelity, so much mistreatment, and she went to seek refuge in Italy with her youngest son. Her relatives there welcomed her, her aunt and her father.
And they later recounted that when she arrived they didn’t recognize her because she was so emaciated, she looked haggard, sad, as if she were already dead. Disappearing before she truly disappeared. Marcela began to improve, she gained some weight, and it’s said she was even planning to rebuild her life, find a job, but in the midst of this rebuilding, Luisito Rey came looking for her again.
He called her, asked her to travel to Madrid to see her son Alejandro, and of course, a mother would do anything to see her son, but the reality is that Luisito Rey surely still had power over her, so she ended up traveling to Spain. And this is the last photograph her family took of her, holding her son Sergio’s hand as they entered the airport, and this other one is from a distance, before she boarded the plane, saying goodbye.
That was August 1986, and just a month later, in September, she called her family in Italy saying she was going to Chile to see her son Luis Miguel at a performance he had there, and that was the last she heard from him. She never arrived in Chile, and no one ever heard from her again. What producer Jaime Bas, who was working with Luis Miguel at that time, did mention is that Luis Miguel did see her.
Shortly before he left for Chile, he saw her at Barajas Airport in Madrid. They hadn’t seen each other in a long time they talked for an hour, cried, and hugged, but obviously neither of them imagined that this was the last time they would be together. Of course, it wasn’t a goodbye, there was no closure, only the hope that she would come to Chile to see him.
And something else incredibly painful is that Luisito Rey told them that what had happened was that his mother had fallen in love with an Italian mobster and had run away with him, abandoning them. For a while, Luis Miguel believed this, and of course, it must have hurt him deeply because it made him feel like he wasn’t enough, that his love as a son wasn’t enough for his mother to stay.
But it’s getting worse and worse because even more painful, something unthinkable, is that many suspicions point to Luisito Rey, Luis Miguel’s own father, that he could have been responsible for taking her life and making her body disappear, because her body never… He was found. And one of the most vocal proponents of this version is Andrés García himself, who says that Luisito confessed to him that he was planning to do this.
We’re talking about a crime, you understand? A crime, and a terrible crime, right? How did you react when Luis Rey asked you for something like that? Well, I insulted him, I really put him through the wringer, you understand? And I told him, “As soon as Micky gets here, I’m going to tell you, man, Andrés, that this guy is up to who knows what.
” I’m not going to say it because what you ‘re doing is outrageous. You already told Durazo. Durazo already told me . Man, what a gossip. I’m going to tell him in general so you’ll be prepared when he gets back to Mexico. But with those exact words, Mr. Andrés, what were they? That he wanted me to help him kill Marcel. That’s right. Of course.
He started saying that Marcel was a bad woman, that she was a bad mother, that she had cheated on him. Luis, are you… Talking to me? I lived across the street from my house, the street in the private neighborhood. Who are you going to tell? Stories. It’s your fault, you’re the one who caused all this. And now they’re blaming me for doing this atrocity.
And although the accusation is very serious , at the same time it all makes sense, but if it’s true, justice was never obtained. To this day, Marcela’s disappearance remains without an official explanation. Luis Miguel searched for his mother for years. There has been talk of private investigators, Interpol, the FBI, even Mossad. But all of this was done in secret because Luis Miguel had to pretend to the world that everything was perfect.
More than a decade passed before the media began to suspect that his mother was not present, but as with everything involving Luis Miguel, it was handled very secretively, and for years he pretended that his mother was with him and that he saw her, spoke with her, as in this 1989 interview, three years after Marcela disappeared, with Verónica Castro.
I miss my mother a lot, or rather, I’d say she’s the one I miss the most because she’s the one I have the least opportunity to see, and in fact, I miss my whole family. And you see how he lowers his head when he talks about her. It’s not just that I miss her, it’s like a defeat, a despair.
How does your mom treat you? How do you scold her or talk to her? No, well, she doesn’t have time for that. She has time to say, “I’m going to see you now, and that’s it, and I have to go.” So, I do n’t have time to enjoy her, I don’t have time for anything. And maybe with this denial of his mother’s disappearance, he learned to deny everything.
That if they said he was a father, that if they said he was dating someone. No, no, no. He built up an armor that no one could ever break through. Over time, some biographers comment that Luis Miguel did find out, through all these investigations he did, that his mother had died in Madrid in 1986 from unnatural causes. But since her body wasn’t found and There’s no 100% certainty about anything, because I think it’s incredibly painful to always have the hope of “what if I see her again someday, what if she ever comes back?” And all of that is torture and an
uncertainty that eats away at you every day, like the song “Yo sé que volverás” (I Know You’ll Come Back). Even though Luis Miguel didn’t compose, he selected the songs that most connected with his life experiences or what he was going through at that moment. There were also songwriters who were inspired by seeing him, by what he was going through, to compose.
That’s why there are many songs that also reflect how he felt. He himself later confirmed that this one was indeed for his mother. “I know you’ll come back when dawn breaks, even when everyone else has already left. The appointment hasn’t changed, even though it seems that everything has been lost to oblivion. I’ll wait for you here.
I’ve promised. The wait would be useless and suffocating if I didn’t know how much you’ve loved me . I know you’ll come back, very watchful.” “I’ll wait for you here. I’ve promised.” The Armor of the Sun. After the Disappearance Despite Marcela’s departure, Luis Miguel continued working, which is impressive because after everything I’ve already told you, any other teenager would have fallen apart, but not him.
He had to keep singing, smiling, recording. And I also think his career was like a kind of escape, a way to avoid thinking, to avoid feeling, and to be able to focus on something. Besides, of course, his father wasn’t going to let him stop the machine had to keep running. So, with Marcela, he lost that part of his life that was tenderness, love, and understanding, and he was left only with the coldness, dictatorship, and exploitation of his father, so sooner or later he had to break with him.
He met a man experienced in the industry, the Argentinian Hugo López, whom Luis Miguel asked to please be his manager. But since he was still a minor, Hugo couldn’t do anything. They agreed to wait until he turned 18, but obviously Luisito Rey not only exploded with anger, but even called Hugo to threaten him if he dared to take away his role in his son’s career.
Hugo told him he wasn’t afraid, and Luisito had no choice but to accept his son’s emancipation when he turned 18. This new manager helped him a lot in his transition from teen idol to adult singer. With him, he adopted the suit, the white shirt, the tan, the well-groomed hair, the perfect smile, the dashing gaze, the posture—this very persona of the sun that began to mark him as someone extraordinary.
But this didn’t just come from the manager Luis Miguel himself wanted to look this way. Perhaps he thought that if you look perfect on the outside, no one can see the chaos inside. And the true consolidation of Kruner Latino came in 1991 with the album Romance, which is when he started singing boleros, a very risky move because it was old-fashioned music, music that did n’t appeal to young people at the time it wasn’t trendy or what they listened to most on the radio.
But I think that’s where the genius of his team lay. Luis Miguel himself understood that youth fades, but the classic repertoire always endures, and that It elevated him even further to that air of luxury, perfection, and elegance that perfectly suited the character he was building. You don’t know what you make me feel. You could be inside me for just a minute, and I just can’t be without you.
But for love to work, it’s not enough to just look handsome and sing beautifully. You have to open up, show vulnerability, and connect with the other person. And that’s what this image of perfection would prevent him from doing. The women around the sun. Before all of Luis Miguel’s controversial romances , there was one that seemed to be a genuine teenage love with 24-year-old photographer Mariana Yasbec, while he was only 17.
An experience she herself has described as beautiful and quite normal. Despite his fame, they went to the movies, saw each other with friends, and ate together. This was long before the ” Sun” persona was fully active, and perhaps that’s why there was a strong emotional connection between them. But the version Luis Miguel presented in his series is that he ended up getting hurt.
He met her on the set of the “Calienta el Sol” music video and they liked each other immediately. The problem was that she was either dating or seeing filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu, and that, of course, created a conflict, but in the end, she chose Luis Miguel. They were together for six months everything was going well until she didn’t.
And there are many versions of what happened between them, and since Luis Miguel never makes any statements, it all remains just that—versions. What she has said is that they simply weren’t compatible because of their very different lives and that nothing dramatic happened. There was also talk that Rebeca de Alba had interfered in the relationship, which both women denied.
And what the series presents, which could be Luis Miguel’s direct version, is that she went back to González Iñárritu, cheating on him with Luis Miguel. And there’s another version. According to composer Juan Carlos Calderón, he saw Luis Miguel kissing a model while he was still with Mariana, and when she found out, that’s why she left him for González and Iñárritu, which inspired him.
He was inspired to compose the song “Culpable o no” (Guilty or Not), which Luis Miguel initially didn’t want to sing, but with everything he was going through , he decided to open up and sing it with his heart on his sleeve. Let it seem like love, I need to love you. [singing] Guilty. However things turned out, this breakup was another blow to the emotional stability of young Luis Miguel, and he may have learned that falling in love also makes you vulnerable.
Then a rather awkward relationship appears, but I think it also explains a lot . It involves Lucía Méndez, who was 32 years old, and Luis Miguel was 17. She was a famous, sensual, established actress, and he was just a boy opening himself up to love. But according Lucia, he lied to her about his age.
He told her he was 20, and there are also versions that place Lucía Méndez before Mariana, others that do not, but regardless of who came first or who came later, the important thing is what this story reveals. Lucía says that they met in Miami after an event and that in the early morning Luis Miguel knocked on her hotel room door dressed in a tuxedo with a bottle of champagne and told her to let him in, that he was sad because he couldn’t find his mother.
And if that’s true, it tells us everything. No matter how much he tried to act like an adult, a seducer, with champagne, a tuxedo, knocking on the door of an older and famous woman, deep down he was just a young boy suffering because he needed his mother. Lucía says she didn’t see it as something romantic because he was very young, but Luis Miguel set out to win her over with romantic gestures, being super chivalrous and attentive, and she ended up falling for it, but she never saw this relationship as something serious. She
said they had a lot of fun, watched movies, talked, and had chemistry, but she could never get the age difference out of her head and that’s why she tried not to fall in love. I think it hurt her to see that this young man was indeed in love with her, and it was all kept secret because Luisito Rey still had control over his son.
In the end, Lucía ended up falling in love with another man, Pedro Torres, whom she married and had a child with a year after being with Luis Miguel. In fact, Lucía said that when she found out she was pregnant, she wasn’t even sure if it was Luis Miguel’s or her husband’s. That’s how close everything was. So, perhaps Luis Miguel saw that two women he had loved had left him for another.
The song “Cold as the Wind” is attributed to that experience of being with a woman who did not love him. I remember you like this, loving without loving, impossible to reach. Cold as the wind. You don’t let yourself be loved. That’s why I don’t know if I have you, I don’t know if you’re coming or going. Like the wind, dangerous like the sea, sweet like a kiss, you don’t let yourself go .
I do n’t know if Luis Miguel unconsciously sought in Lucía Méndez a kind of maternal figure that he confused with love, or if, having been pushed to become an adult so quickly, he felt ready to act like an adult when he was still a young man. But everything has its consequences, and with the next relationship he did face the consequences of being an adult because he became a father without really wanting to.
This is Stephanie Salas, granddaughter of the diva Silvia Pinal, who was also in the orbit of Mexican show business, but her life was very different from that of Luis Miguel. She was still going to school, had family relationships, and schedules, while Luis Miguel was involved in his career with tours, recordings, concerts, and they never had a formal relationship.
Everything was quite casual between them, but Stephanie and Luis Miguel loved it. She said that she saw him as a very mature boy for his age, as someone worldly, elegant, and gentlemanly. What do I tell them? He didn’t behave according to his age, 18 years old, because they made him grow up too fast. Stephanie accompanied him to some concerts, they went to restaurants, they had fun, but suddenly something happened that changed this relationship forever.
Stephanie became pregnant. She was barely 18 years old, she was studying, of course she felt fear, but both her mother Silvia Pasquel and her grandmother Silvia Pinal decided to support her. And when Stefhanie finally told Luis Miguel, she says that they met at an apartment in Polanco and that Luis Miguel remained silent, that he was shocked and silent for a while, but then he told her that everything would be alright.
She felt touched and even a little excited by the idea of being a father, something that gave her a lot of hope that at least her daughter would have her dad with her, but after that conversation she lost contact with him during the pregnancy, which we see is a pattern in him, like the sun does warm at the beginning, but then it cools down and goes away.
His daughter Michelle was born on June 13, 1989, but Luis Miguel was not present at the birth. But what Stefhanie did later recount is that after the birth, Luis Miguel approached her to meet his daughter, held her, and thus acted as her father for about 3 years, that she would take her to her house, they would spend time together and everything was fine, but that was only in private, because in public he denied being the father of that girl.
That thing about Luis Miguel being with her, and with this one, and with the other one, and that he’s a dad, and that he has a house without a grandfather. Yes, I am what to me and I am right, it is in the magazine that you are already a dad of a little girl and a little boy or I don’t know how many, right? They’ve already put too many there.
Yes, yes. Oh my God. Now I’m a dad. They do n’t know what to invent anymore, do they? What a mess. Why does it happen? Alright . I mean, as far as I know, no. [laughs] Not that I’m aware of. But, I mean, they didn’t warn you. If you became a father, they didn’t warn you, they didn’t tell you anything.
What a moment, huh? What a difficult time. No, I don’t want to put you through bad times. No, it ‘s not a bad time. Send me to hell. Okay, Veronica, pull down your pants. Take that out, it’s impressive, but all the rumors and all the gossip. The truth is, no, as they say, I’m not lucky with women. Lucky with women.
That? Yes, where are the women? There. Oh, but don’t say where they are, because there are a lot of them in the audience. No, but that’s not true. It isn’t true. No, right? I wish it were so. If half of all those rumors and gossip were true, I would be very happy. Yes. Would you like to have many children? Many women. No, no children.
Not children yet. No, I don’t feel ready to be a dad at this point in my life. Well, no, I don’t think so . And that’s the armor of the Sun character. While in private Stefanie says that he lived with his daughter and even spoiled her, it was only when no one could see him. Understanding why he did it doesn’t justify it at all.
It is very serious that a girl was not only going to grow up without her father, but that he would deny her in front of everyone. But after the girl turned 3 in ’92, which actually coincides with the death of Luisito Rey, he simply disappeared from Stefhanie and her daughter’s lives. It was as if, after his father had died and his life had changed, he could no longer maintain the relationship with her.
And since Luis Miguel denied his daughter, Stefanie received all kinds of insults from people saying to her, “Who do you think? That she’s Luis Miguel’s daughter? You wish!” These kinds of things not only affected her, but of course Michelle as well. So in ’94, when the girl was 5 years old, Stephanie decided to speak out.
She said yes, Luis Miguel was the father of her daughter and asked them to please stop all the criticism and hatred they were receiving. But guess what? Even after this plea to stop the hatred, Luis Miguel continued to deny that Michelle was his daughter. Various newspapers brought up the rumor again, right? That you were the father of Stephanie Salas’s child, Stefanie Salas’s daughter.
What is Luis Miguel’s comment on that? His comment doesn’t go beyond the same old thing. We’re back to the fact that I’ve been a public figure who, throughout my years as an artist, has been the subject of various comments. Right? In fact, as I told you, I’ve been killed three times, supposedly I’ve died three times.
Comments have been made about various things. Your sense of fatherhood, what is it, Luis Miguel? I mean, aside from that, it seems to me that it’s a position with too much responsibility, something that I can’t, under any circumstances, take on , right? Especially because of my age, especially because I don’t feel prepared to do it.
And although he denies it, he implies that it’s not so much that Stefhanie is lying, but that he can’t handle the responsibility, that he’s not prepared to accept that he’s a father. Unfortunately, Michel Salas grew up for years as Luis Miguel’s unrecognized daughter. And this, of course, must have been very painful, because that persona of the sun and all perfection was no longer just protecting him, but was hurting others.
And it even seems like a contradiction that at the same time, around ’89, when his daughter was born, he was beginning One of the most important relationships of his life was with Isabela Camil, from a family deeply connected to the entertainment industry and Mexican high society. Isabela Camil wasn’t just a girlfriend to Luis Miguel she was like a surrogate family, because her family had lived with his since he was a child, and they began to see him as another son.
So, the man who couldn’t provide a home for his daughter was searching for that sense of belonging. The romance began when they were both around 20 years old and lasted until they were 27, but their relationship was extremely private. There are hardly any photos of them together, and it’s clear that Isabela wasn’t interested in Luis Miguel’s fame.
She had a life more focused on her home and family, with her own projects, but Luis Miguel’s fame grew more and more when he was with her. It was during this time that he released some of the most classic albums of his career, such as 20 Años, Romance, Aries, and Segundo Romance.
He won multiple Grammys, performed at Madison Square Garden in New York, and recorded with Frank Sinatra. And he went from the heartthrob to the elegant international singer I mentioned. But that’s precisely what drove them apart. Luis Miguel was increasingly taking her on tours, red carpets, parties, and concerts. And although I believe Luis Miguel did love Isabela and that she gave him the stability he so desperately needed, both for his artistic career and because of what had happened with his family, in the end, as in the ” Unconditional” video, he had something more
important than love: his career, success, his very being, the sun. The series suggests they broke up because Luis Miguel was obsessed with finding his mother and that’s why he couldn’t connect emotionally with Isabela. Erika in the series also mentions an engagement ring and Daisy Fuentes as the one who appeared right when the relationship was falling apart .
But according to what Isabela’s family has said, nothing was that dramatic. Tony Stark, her mother, said it was all due to differences in lifestyles and that neither of them was interested in getting married. And what isn’t entirely clear is whether there was infidelity with his next partner or if it was just a little. After they broke up.
And when his relationship with Isabela ended, the Camil family also distanced themselves from Luis Miguel, which also represented a loss, but we don’t know if he saw it that way or simply thought, “Oh well, the sun keeps shining.” And in fact, Daisy Fuentes seemed to be a woman who, for a moment, thought she could be in the sun without getting burned.
Unlike Isabela, she accompanied him to many events they were seen together on dates at the beach. She appeared in the video “How Is It Possible That I Was By Your Side,” which was Luis Miguel’s first relationship that was truly exposed to the public. The fling happened during an interview Daisy conducted with him when he was promoting his album “Segundo Romance.
” I could n’t find the complete interview, only snippets where he talks about the pride of being Latino, and shortly after, there’s a hint of flirting because he starts speaking in Portuguese, and she laughs, and that’s noticeable. Oy, he Luis Miguel, he Don’t laugh, Daisy. Even though she had just After their divorce, they started dating, but there was another problem: she was also seeing Cristian Castro.
So when he found out, he decided to back off to clear the way for Luis Miguel, but their friendship was damaged, which also says a lot about the character of “El Sol” himself—that he could have any woman, even those already with other famous men. With Daisy, Luis Miguel’s glamour soared because she had connections in Hollywood and the United States, and their big appearance was at the 1996 Oscars.
He was 26 and she was 30. He wore a tuxedo, beaming, and she wore a lime green dress that image made them one of the most talked-about couples of the moment. But apparently, the problem was that Luis Miguel didn’t just want Daisy to be his partner and for both their careers to rise together he wanted Daisy to give up everything to be with him.
According to this article, Luis Miguel asked her to give up her career, and imagine, she wasn’t just giving up anything. Daisy Fuentes is Cuban- American, grew up in Madrid, studied in New Jersey, and was the first Latina to achieve this. On MTV, she was the first Latina model for the Reblon brand. She had her own show on CNBC and was frequently featured in fashion and sports magazines, but she was very much in love and for a time gave it all up for Luis Miguel.
She did very little work while she was with him, but she also began to tire of him taking her to hotels to wait for him, surrounded by luxury, yes, but without the slightest sign that he wanted to commit and settle down with her. And according to reports, the final straw was the 1997 Oscars, where, even though she was with him, Luis Miguel was accompanied by Salma Hayek.
Just a year earlier, his entrance had been triumphant and everything seemed perfect, but now he was accompanied by another stunning woman. And Daisy, apparently as a sign of revenge, went to the World Music Awards with Ricky Martin, which greatly upset Luis Miguel, and you can imagine why the relationship ended in 1998.
And once again, the pattern repeats itself: the unconditional supporter while Daisy was willing to do anything for him. I thought the relationship with Luis Miguel would work, but what he needed to do, he couldn’t do. Commit, settle down with her, open up emotionally, and show his vulnerability. That sun-darling armor was already too much on.
All of this reminds me a bit of Leonardo DiCaprio. Except that DiCaprio doesn’t like women over 25, Luis Miguel seems to be a kind of Latin Leonardo DiCaprio because he’s been with a lot of gorgeous women, the most beautiful women in the world, and while they’re looking to get married and start a family, he’s incapable of it. Truly committing, letting a woman into his life, and being vulnerable with her.
And something else that must be incredibly painful is the politically correct way Luis Miguel talks about his ex-partners. For example, he called Daisy Fuentes a good friend in the industry. He doesn’t deny that there was something between them, but he also doesn’t make it clear that she was an important woman in his life, that he loved her, nothing, leaving it very ambiguous while he protects his public i
mage. But if… Yes, Luis Miguel was already the sun, but with his next partner, that became massive and super-international. In 1998, he met Marie while he was at the peak of his career. She was going through a crisis, having just separated from Tommy Mottola. She felt a lot of uncertainty about her career, but without a doubt, she was a diva, one of the most recognized singers in the world, and her fame and career were very independent of the sun’s brilliance .
But I think that’s where the problem lay, because two suns can’t fit in the same room, and there was a lot of ego involved. Their first date was arranged in Aspen, Colorado, so they could get to know each other. But for Maraya, it was a disaster because Luis Miguel arrived drunk . She felt very uncomfortable, but the next day he made amends by sending her a vulgar necklace as a gift.
And from then on, everything was over the top with luxuries, excesses, extravagant gifts, material demonstrations of adoration, and even a private plane full of red roses. And Maraya liked it because, with all her ego, she was thrilled that a man would treat her like that. She described him in her book as having a Latin style, like a queen, and as generous, spontaneous, and passionate, but unable to open up emotionally, as if he compensated for everything with the luxuries he provided.
She also called him the Latin Elvis, not because their musical styles were similar, but rather because they were both superstars, beloved by women, seductive, and successful. Initially, their relationship worked because they understood each other as artists, since Luis Miguel hadn’t been with any singer who understood the implications of fame and a career.
But in the end, there were many cultural differences. For example, Luis Miguel didn’t fully grasp the racial aspect of her being the daughter of a Black man. She would talk to him about the difficulties she faced, and he couldn’t quite understand. He would tell her that he saw her as a white woman, and that was it .
This, combined with the fact that she noticed a dark cloud surrounding him, preventing him from opening up, ended up ruining the relationship and even thwarting a duet that would have been legendary. They were supposed to sing Together they recorded the song “After Tonight,” but producer David Foster said they recorded it several times and Luis Miguel didn’t like it.
I don’t know if it was because the relationship was already on the rocks or because the clash of egos prevented the song from flowing, and in the end, Maraya ended up recording it alone and included it on her 1999 album, “Rainbow,” which was the same year Luis Miguel released ” Marte Es un placer,” on which he did work both as a producer and composer of some songs, and that’s why many fans interpret the album, and especially the title track, as dedicated to Maraya, although it hasn’t been entirely confirmed, but the dates do coincide.
[singing] They broke up in 2001 there were rumors of infidelity, that Maraya wanted children and Luis Miguel didn’t. So, not even one of the most talented and famous women in the world managed to capture the sun. And surely, after being with Maraya, Luis Miguel wanted a girl who could keep up with him.
And that was Mirka de Llanos, not because she didn’t have her own career. In fact, She’s one of the most recognized journalists in the United States, known for First Impact, and she was also a mother. She had a daughter at the time. But I think that after all the excesses with Maraya, Mirka brought him calm.
She was a woman who understood show business, but without being part of it herself. But the problem is that Luis Miguel expected Mirka to also revolve around the sun. It all started when she interviewed him in 1999, when Luis Miguel was still dating Maraya, and she seemed completely charmed by him in the interview. The word “marriage,” I mean, even if you’re relaxed about it or not, you said no, nothing about marriage or children, like, not a chance.
Why that fear? Because it’s never crossed my mind, nothing at all related to marriage or children. But every man at some point, just like women, dreams of having his family, his family unit, maybe things you didn’t have. I love it because you’re committed, you’re committed and you ‘re saying it, your happiness shows on your face, and that’s great.
I understand that and I respect that a lot. I love the idea of someone being happy in their marriage, in their personal life in that respect. Do n’t you think maybe you could have that too? I don’t rule out the possibility, but at this moment I can’t think about it. Sure. But when you meet someone, you’re super happy, when you fall in love with someone, you often think, well, I want to spend as much time as possible with this person, and with your career it must be really difficult, right? How do you do it? Uh, it’s very hard for me, it’s
very hard for both the person you love and you, and it’s a bit complicated, but it’s also very beautiful when you separate and you see each other and it’s like always starting over, like starting again, right? And it also has its positive side. He himself admits that he likes starting over.
It’s very beautiful when you separate and start over. Wow. I’ve never heard that phrase. Never. Never. [laughs] They started dating around 2003. Mirka was 38 and he 33 and they were always very private. There were rumors that Mirka left her hosting job on Primer Impacto to follow Luis Miguel, but she confirmed that it wasn’t true, that it was because of her contract and because she wanted new challenges in her work.
But what did happen is that on many occasions she, like Daisy Fuentes, ended up in hotels waiting for him, isolated and without any sign of commitment, because he himself told her in the interview that it was something that didn’t interest him. Even her daughter said in an interview that her mother and Luis Miguel were going to get married, but Mirka immediately stopped her , so we don’t know if the girl had heard this because Mirka told her or because it was her own wish, but even the girl hoped that it would become official, which it didn’t. They only
lasted two years and although it didn’t work out, Mirka has never spoken negatively about Luis Miguel. Quite the opposite. She has always said that he treated her very well. Araceli, the opportunity for a home. The relationship with Araceli Arámbula is one of the The most important relationships in Luis Miguel’s entire life, because she wasn’t just another girlfriend, but the woman with whom he came closest to a traditional family life , with a stable partner, children, a house, and domestic responsibilities. It all
began around 2005, when she was 30 and he was 35. Araceli was at the peak of her career, a renowned actress with a long and successful career, very much a part of the Mexican entertainment scene. In fact, it’s said that she was dating or seeing the telenovela heartthrob, Fernando Colunga, but she couldn’t resist the allure of the sun and began a relationship with him.
And surprisingly, after so long of saying no, with Araceli, he was willing to become a father. Close friends of Luis Miguel have said that he wanted to have a child with her. And Araceli herself said that they spent about a year trying for a baby, and when she found out she was pregnant, she cried with emotion.
Miguel was born on January 1, 2007, in Los Angeles, and Luis Miguel was unrecognizable. How is it possible that a woman not only Not only did she manage to become his partner, but she also had a child with him that he truly wanted and publicly acknowledged, and then proudly showed him off to the world in a magazine? Hello.
And it gets even better because it wasn’t just one child, but two. They even posed for the magazine again when she was pregnant, showing the world all their happiness. Daniel was born on December 18, 2008, also in Los Angeles. And the song that Luis Miguel released in 2008 dedicated to Araceli is very revealing, since it’s called ” Disguises” (Disguises), referring to the fact that with her he doesn’t need any more disguises, with her the masks fall away, he will show himself as he truly is.
It’s as if he was aware of that armor I mentioned, but with Araceli he no longer wanted it. At dawn, under the starlight, I will tear off any disguise, any mask to look life in the face and enjoy the loves that await me. Here I am, tired of adventures, of comings and goings, of disguises, of ties, of chains that don’t let me live my life as I should.
Anyone. With the light in the stars, I’ll tear off any disguise, any mask. And there’s another surprise, also super important, which is that during that period he also reconnected with his daughter Michelle, and it wasn’t just words he legally began all the steps to recognize her as his daughter. Michelle was 18 years old, and it’s said that it was Araceli who motivated Luis Miguel to reach out to his daughter, to re-establish a relationship with her, which speaks very highly of Araceli.
If that’s true, there was a DNA test, of course it came back positive, and they shared this photo of their meeting . From then on they’ve maintained a good relationship. Luis Miguel was with Michelle at her wedding in Italy in 2023. I’m not sure if he walked her down the aisle as her father.
There aren’t many photos of that, but it’s said that he at least danced with her. And as for his children with Araceli, there’s also a song for them that isn’t about romantic love. It’s more like a father’s love. Wherever you go You, I’ll go with you, and if you stay, I’ll stay too. I’ve already learned your voice, and your kisses too.
You ‘re already my other half, my great madness. Happy hearing the rhythm of the cradle, knowing that my home is in your body. Oh, darling, the most beautiful things in life. Yesterday I didn’t even know you existed, and today, if you’re not with me, I’m lost. You’re my other half, my great madness. Wherever you go, I’ll go with you.
And it’s a super painful song because in it he tells them, “I’m going to stay, I’m always going to be here.” “I can no longer imagine my life without you.” But in the end, she left too. Tensions began to arise because, although Araceli was a mother, Luis Miguel’s official partner didn’t want to erase herself as a woman and as a professional.
And according to Polo Martínez, Luis Miguel’s former manager, everything initially worked because Araceli accepted dedicating herself solely to the home, being a mother, and supporting Luis Miguel in his career. In other words, everything had worked because Luis Miguel found what he was looking for in Araceli: a woman who would sacrifice herself to be with him.
And perhaps Araceli initially thought she wanted to do it because of infatuation, the sun, and all that, but Polo also says that during her second pregnancy, she started making comments about wanting to return to work, which Luis Miguel did n’t like. If true, this makes it clear that it wasn’t true love, but rather a love conditional on her functioning around him.
It’s also said that Luis Miguel really enjoyed being alone and that Araceli was very affectionate and very connected to her family, and that Luis Miguel didn’t feel comfortable because he He was more closed off, and just as he couldn’t open up despite his intentions, which I find most striking, even when he finally did want to start a family, settle down, and embrace a vulnerable life, he couldn’t .
The wounds he carried simply prevented him. They separated in 2009, shortly after Daniel’s birth. And once again, Luis Miguel finds himself in the role of the absent father. Aracel has stated on many occasions that she raised her children alone, and although the door has always been open to him, he simply has n’t been as involved as he should have been.
And in 2023, when the boys were teenagers, this scandal resurfaced because Aracel publicly revealed that, in addition to being an absent father, Luis Miguel was also a delinquent in child support payments , having failed to pay the alimony he owed since 2019. This, of course, severely tarnished Luis Miguel’s image.
Because what good is all the seduction and romantic songs when he doesn’t respond as he should to his own children? Later it was reported that Luis Miguel did deposit 1.4 million dollars for Araceli, but it became a legal battle because she couldn’t access the money . Then it was confirmed that she had, but even so, her lawyers argued that it didn’t settle everything.
And the surprising thing here is that this defensiveness not only prevents him from connecting emotionally with his partners, but even with his children. Because of course, a child needs time, patience, birthdays, school, a daily routine—something very difficult for him. We understand all his hurts and how much he has suffered, of course, but this becomes a chain reaction where one person suffers, and because of that, many others suffer.
And as far as we know, this same absence continues to this day, 2026, with the children he has with Araceli Arámbula. And after Luis Miguel tried to open up, tried to start a family with Araceli, well, since things didn’t work out in the end, he returned to the same pattern, now even more secretive, with more ephemeral relationships like those with Luzena González and Britney Gastino.
Deliré, Molly Hann Gold, Mercedes Villador— none of them seemed to break the pattern, but what his armor couldn’t protect him from was his public image. Despite being the tanned, elegant, impeccable man in a suit, with a smile, a bolero, and plenty of self-control, he became a meme. Social media was flooded with jokes about his weight gain .
And although we all have the right to change, after he built his career on perfection, when his body changed, the public reacted as if the illusion he had cultivated for decades had been shattered. It’s as if he were a victim of his own persona. And the worst came when this bad streak was also compounded by concert cancellations. In 2015, for example, Luis Miguel left a concert at the National Auditorium in Mexico City after only two or three songs.
He left without any explanation, the audience booed him angrily, and there were similar incidents , a lot of cancellations, and the few concerts he did perform weren’t as well-attended as before. And for To make matters worse, this crisis was compounded by debt problems and lawsuits against him for nearly $13 million , including conflicts with Alejandro Fernández, Warner Music, Sudisquera, and his former manager, William Brockhous.
He was even arrested in 2017 for failing to appear in court. He also suffered from health problems, such as voice and hearing issues, which, for a perfectionist like Luis Miguel, must have felt like the end of the world. The series served as a rescue. This has been one of the most interesting and impressive resurgences in the artistic world.
After everything I ‘ve described, telling his story completely changed the conversation. Why was Luisito Rey so cruel to him? What happened to Marcela? How did that child, who was so badly hurt, survive? And that’s how people began to understand the human being behind the sun, why he was so private and didn’t stay in his relationships.
And even when telling his story, he did so like a diva, because he didn’t sit and cry in an interview or even a documentary, but rather dramatized it with great glamour. With actor Diego Boneta and a Netflix-level production. And just like that, without releasing a new album, without trending on TikTok or anything like that , Luis Miguel went viral.
He reached new generations who weren’t entirely familiar with his music. He became an idol for many young women, and what’s most interesting is that people empathized with him. Luisito Rey was portrayed as Mexico’s greatest enemy. Drawings against him, even a piñata, made him a symbol of the hatred he generated.
There was also a scandal about Marcela being found alive in Argentina, a woman living on the streets there named Honorina Montes. It did n’t turn out to be her, but all of this served to further elevate the myth. And although there were several complaints from the women portrayed in the series, such as Isabela Camil, Michel Salas, and of course Aracelia Arámbula, the series itself was a huge success. He improved his appearance.
There was talk that he might have had gastric bypass or sleeve surgery to lose weight, and although some surgical procedures are visible, of course, he hasn’t confirmed anything. And most importantly, his 2023 and 2024 tour grossed over $354 million, which, according to Paul Star, has made it probably the most successful tour by a Latin artist.
This makes it clear that what worked for him during that period of decline wasn’t hiding behind a facade of perfection, but rather showing his human side. As for his personal life, he finally seems to have found stability. His current partner is the 53-year-old designer Paloma Cuevas, while he is 56.
And that was quite a dramatic beginning, because she is practically his godmother and was married for 25 years to Enrique Ponce, a very close friend of Luis Miguel’s . It’s said that she carried Luis Miguel’s eldest son in the baptismal font, although she wasn’t officially the godmother, but she was very close to them during his marriage to Aracel Arámbola.
And since the composer Manuel Alejandro saw a lot of chemistry between them, he saw something special from the start. Inspired by that, he wrote the song “Si tú te atreves,” which Luis himself… Miguel, I think he was very clear about what it was all about, and even so, he wanted to perform his part of the song.
I’ve realized that a current has been slowly growing between us, something that overwhelms us. We can’t hold back, neither you nor I. Everyone notices when we see each other that I pay more attention to you. Imagine, I was with Araceli, and he was paying more attention to his friend. We never thought we would hurt each other.
If you dare, I swear on my life I’ll follow you. If you forget me, I promise I’ll forget you. The situation is very intense because, as I said, she was married to his friend. If you dare I swear on my life I’ll follow you, you forget me. I promise you’ll forget me. But they started being together in 2022 after she had already divorced.
And it should also be said that long before Paloma met Enrique, Araceli and Luis Miguel knew each other. They were part of the same circle in Spain. He’s been with her since childhood, so Paloma surely knows him better than anyone. And perhaps that’s what has made things work, because Luis Miguel no longer has to open up since she already knows him.
She’s known him since he was a child, she was with him during his time with Araceli Arámbula, and I imagine during other stages of his life as well. It must be easier for him to be with her, and she provides a good balance between “I’ll leave everything for you” and “I’ll continue with my own life” because she’s a mother, has her own job, her own world, but also accompanies him on many of his tours whenever she can.
The downside is that Araceli’s children notice that Luis Miguel spends time with Paloma’s daughters, that he goes to their school to pick them up, and that he acts like a present father. And Araceli herself has said that she doesn’t know how to answer when they ask her why he acts like a father to them but not to us. Only time will tell if Luis Miguel has truly learned to stay put.
It has been reported that he has n’t been well lately, but as with everything with him, nothing is confirmed. But in case… So be it, of course we wish him all the best and a speedy recovery. But he’s also facing the reality that he can be a perfect singer, because I believe he is. I went to his concert in 2024, which is one of the concerts I ‘ve enjoyed most in my life.
Wow, what talent, what a voice, everything! But his body is telling him that he also has the right to rest, to take care of himself, and to let someone love him. Many thanks to Sor Shark for making this video possible.
