But hold on that karate class for a second because there is one thing that has to be said before anything else. And it is the thing every honest account of this marriage includes.

Elvis Presley was unfaithful. He said so himself. The men around him wrote about it. Priscilla knew and had known for years. I am not going to pretend otherwise. And here is why it matters to what follows. Because in that house, his affairs were not a secret. They were the arrangement. Everyone in the building knew, including his wife, and the marriage continued anyway for years without interruption because nothing was being hidden from anybody.

That is the crucial difference and it is not a small one. What happened next was not the same thing happening in the other direction. What happened next was concealment. Their marriage was not an easy one and nobody has ever pretended it was. He married her in May 1967. Lisa Marie arrived 9 months later.

Then in July 1969, he opened in Las Vegas and became the biggest live act on Earth. Hundreds of shows across seven years, seasons of two performances a night, tours wrapped around them. He was away most of the year. She was at Graceland. Those are the facts, and she has used them ever since to explain what she did next.

But, hold them against what she actually had. She had a house he had bought, a daughter he adored, and saw whenever he was in Memphis, staff, money, a husband who called constantly, and who by every account, including her own, never once considered leaving her. And she had a husband who noticed she was bored and did something about it.

He did not buy her jewelry. He gave her a discipline he loved and cared about, and arranged for the best man in the country to teach it to her. That is what he did with the loneliness she has described. What she did with it is the rest of this video. Mike Stone was not a hanger-on. He was born in Hawaii. He was a former world karate champion, a genuine one at the top of the sport in the ’60s.

He ran a school in Southern California and trained the people who trained everybody else. Chuck Norris, Bruce Lee. Elvis knew exactly who he was because Elvis was serious about karate himself and had been for years. That is not a detail. That is the whole of it. The two men shared the one thing Elvis cared about outside music.

He introduced them. The lessons became a friendship. The friendship became an affair, and then it went on. Priscilla has never given a firm date for when it started, and the accounts vary, but every version agrees on this much. It ran for a considerable period before Elvis was told anything, which means the flights, the shows, the phone calls home, the Christmases at Graceland, all of it continued as normal while it was going on.

Both of them were married at the time. Both of them had children he did not know. In February 1972, she told him. She has described his reaction in her memoirs, and I’m going to state it once plainly, and attribute it clearly, because it is her account, and he never gave his. She wrote that he forced himself on her, that he needed to prove to her and to himself that he could be what she had gone looking for.

She has also been explicit in her most recent book about what that did and did not cause. She wrote that she did not leave because of Mike Stone, and she did not leave because of what Elvis did when he found out. She said the marriage had been crumbling for years. That is her account of it, published under her own name, and she has not softened it or withdrawn it.

Then she left. Here is what happened in the weeks after she walked out. And this part is not Priscilla’s account alone. The men who were there have told versions of it for 50 years. Elvis Presley told the people around him that Mike Stone had to die. He asked Joe Esposito, his road manager, to find a hit man. Esposito went to Priscilla and warned her.

When she offered to bring Lisa Marie to Vegas to see her father perform, he advised against it. The sight of her might set Elvis off. And in early 1973 on stage in Las Vegas, a few fans climbed up onto the stage during a show. Elvis decided they had been sent to kill him. Back in the suite afterwards, he went off, and the accounts from the men in that room describe him pulling an M-16 out of a wardrobe and raging that Mike Stone had to be killed.

A doctor was called. He was sedated. When the sedative wore off, it started again. It took his father and the men around him a long time to talk him down. He gave it up eventually, but sit with what that is. The most famous entertainer on the planet, 38 years old, medicated, standing in a hotel suite with a rifle, wanting a karate instructor dead for doing the same thing he had been doing for 9 years.

So, why did it hit him the way it did when he had been unfaithful himself? People raise that as though it settles something. It does not. And the reason is the thing I said at the start. His affairs were known. Hers was hidden. He had never lied to her about the other women. Everybody in that house knew. She knew.

And the marriage went on regardless. Nothing was ever concealed, and nothing was ever at risk. She concealed hers for a long time from a man who was calling home from Vegas. And she did it with the person he had handed her himself. That is the part he could not get past. And you can see it in what he did. A man who is merely embarrassed does not ask his road manager to find a hit man.

A man protecting his pride does not pull a rifle out of a wardrobe in a hotel suite and have to be sedated twice in one night. That is not humiliation. That is a man who had genuinely believed something about his own life and found out it had not been true for years. And there is one more layer to it, and it is the cruelest.

Karate was one of the very few things in Elvis Presley’s life that had nothing to do with fame. It was his. He handed his wife the one thing he loved that was not the stage, and she used it to leave him.

Now we have to talk about where almost all of this comes from because it comes from one place. Priscilla Presley has written two books. Elvis and Me came out in 1985, 8 years after he died. It is the source. Nearly every detail the public knows about that marriage traces back to it directly or through everything written since using it.

Sofia Coppola’s film is based on it. The second Softly as I Leave You came out in 2025 and that is where a great deal of the material in this video first appeared. The hitman, the rifle, Elvis forcing himself on her, the claim that he suggested she consider an abortion when she was pregnant with Lisa Marie. Not in 1985, in 2025, 40 years later.

48 years after his death at a point when every person who might have contradicted any of it was gone. I am not telling you she invented them. I have no basis for that and neither does anybody else. And she is not the only one who has noticed. Ginger Alden was engaged to Elvis when he died. She was in the house and after the 2025 book came out, she went public at length disputing several of Priscilla’s passages directly including the account of how she and Elvis met and the claim that she was involved with somebody else while she was with him.

Donna Presley, Elvis’s own cousin, said that Priscilla’s version of events in and around Graceland was far from the truth. Fan researchers have gone further and found the contradictions inside the books themselves. In a 2025 interview promoting the new memoir, Priscilla gave an account of one incident that contradicts what she had written about it in 1985 and repeated in the very book she was promoting.

None of that proves anything either way, but it does mean something simple. And it is the thing this channel says in every video. There is one version of this marriage. It belongs to one person, and the other person in it never got to answer. And then there is the story she chose to tell about herself. ” She takes the call. She talks to him. Then she gets back into bed. She writes that it never occurred to him that she might be asleep, and that it had certainly never occurred to him that she might be with another man. Her line is that neither of them ever knew. Robert never knew Elvis had called. Elvis never knew about Robert.

She adds elsewhere in the same book that he never called her while she was making love to somebody. Read that scene again, because she put it in a book herself, voluntarily, at 80 years old. The most famous man in the world on the phone at 2:00 in the morning, wanting to tell his ex-wife about a good show, because she was still the person he wanted to tell.
