Jaafar Jackson’s Memories With Michael Jackson That Will Melt Your Heart – dw
You know, and they were out there imitating Michael. And they were good. Two thousand people did it right. But your father wasn’t imitating Michael. He became Michael. Imagine looking in the mirror and seeing the King of Pop staring back at you. For Jaafar Jackson, playing his uncle Michael Jackson in the blockbuster biopic wasn’t just a movie role.
I always have to say my grandmother. And to get the love I got from her after she saw it, you know, just to hear her words saying how proud she was. Still I I I can get emotional just just talking about it and hearing about it. It was a deeply emotional family journey. From childhood games at Neverland to mastering the iconic moonwalk, Jaafar brought his uncle’s spirit back to life.
Coming from my own memories of him, there were a few cherishable memories that I have that it was more so the emotions that come out of them that Carrying the Jackson name, Jaafar came under the spotlight far before appearing on any stage. While most families preserve photos, Jacksons preserved a tradition that was bigger than any person could appreciate.
Jaafar Jackson, as being born into the family of Jermaine Jackson, grew in the shadow of one of the most prominent families in the music industry. Though his father did everything in his power to protect Jaafar from the whirlpool following their surname, not everything was possible. The influence of Michael Jackson was all around.
His songs were playing all the time. Stories about him were told during endless discussions of the family. And then something unusual happened. As Jaafar aged, people saw many coincidences which amazed them. Smiling, eyes sparkling, even specific movements of Michael were seen in Jaafar. Observation turned into the public discussion.
Total strangers tried to compare Jaafar to the man who was one of the best performers of all times. Jaafar took it positively and wrote his new chapter. Before going further, let’s take a look at this heartwarming image showing Michael Jackson standing beside his young nephew, Jaafar Jackson, on a television studio set.

Jaafar, wearing a bright yellow shirt, looks happy as he stands next to his famous uncle, while Michael’s sunglasses and sparkling silver jacket catch the studio lights. The moment feels like a simple family memory, but it also shows how close Jaafar was to Michael while growing up. Years later, Jaafar would follow his own path in the arts and take on the incredible challenge of portraying his uncle on screen.
What do you think? Let us know in the comments. Premier night laughs. While the red carpet was glamorous, the greatest memories emerged from the stories that occurred off of the cameras at the event. While attending the premiere of the movie Michael at Los Angeles, members of the cast joined forces with members of the Jackson family to attend the screening of one of the most awaited movies in that year.
Very soon, everyone was talking about Jaafar Jackson and his effort in order to prepare for the character. Jaafar talked about the hours he had invested in the study of Michael’s life, including his dance and other activities, facial expressions, mannerisms, and other such things. Studied Michael’s uh videos, his lyrics, and everything about him.
And that’s when I started to embody him. As a result of this intense research, the task of dancing had become the study of Michael’s routine behavior. The audience could not resist being impressed by his hard work and dedication towards the film. One of the emotional talks that happened was made by Nia Long, in which she praised Katherine Jackson’s strength and resilience during a hard time.
Stepping into spotlight. The waiting had ended, and everyone’s eyes were upon him. In his very first interview on the NBC Today show, Jaafar Jackson made it to one of the awaited occasions in his career. With the actor to play the role of Michael Jackson in a biopic already selected, it could not go unnoticed.
Everyone was not only eager to listen to Jaafar, but they were looking for everything. Then things took an unexpected turn. Ja’far began sharing his childhood stories while talking on the show. It was time for happy moments at Hayvenhurst and Neverland. He’s Michael Jackson. I wasn’t Yeah, I don’t I wasn’t thinking that in that moment.
The young actor started talking about the hide-and-seek game, candy treats, rides, and movies with family. These stories revealed a softer image of him for the time being when he talked not as a future star of the biopic, but merely as a boy who spent happy moments with his relatives. All of that left a nice impression on the audience, but it only whetted their appetite.
Lost in the mirror. Ja’far was caught by surprise himself as the metamorphosis became so thorough. Before the movie Michael premiered, Ja’far Jackson shared a particularly shocking moment from its shooting process. While the makeup artist Bill Corso and his team worked endless hours doing their magic with prostheses and makeup on Ja’far, there came an unexpected moment.
One day, Ja’far looked in the mirror and stopped dead in his tracks. He did not recognize himself anymore. The change became so deep and so thorough that for a brief moment all he could see in the reflection was himself playing Michael Jackson. This was definitely a strong effect, but his hard work began to pay off since everything, the gestures, mimics, performance in general started to seem natural for him.
Of course, it cost him numerous hours of being sat every day in front of the mirror to get into character, but the transformation proved itself truly amazing. Billie Jean pressure. Ja’far’s first joke came before anyone hit the record button. While he appeared in The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, he shared one of the hardest things in getting prepared for his role in the movie about Michael.
During the audition stage, he had to master Michael’s signature dancing performance known as Billie Jean. There were 20 days for that. It was tough work, and Ja’far even doubted he could succeed. I think if Michael needs somebody, I could be the next Michael Jackson, yeah. Nice backup dancer. Each practice was under pressure of time.
Now he looks at those videos full of laughs comparing his performance then to the one performed in the movie. The jokes gave Fallon something to discuss further. The host confessed he wouldn’t fit even among the backup dancers of Michael’s troop. The audience couldn’t hold their laughter and Jaafar also joined them.
It seems like this interview wasn’t even an interview. However, the laughs weren’t the last thing people got. The audience was stunned with Jaafar’s appearance, but even more interesting moments lay ahead of them all. Becoming the king. However, it did not end with the rehearsal process. Jaafar was not satisfied with the talent for being a Michael Jackson impersonator.
Yes, and um my first that was who are they going to get to play Michael? To be able to play him in a credible way, he had to put in much more effort. It is not enough to learn the way he dances. The actor needed a more comprehensive transformation. He decided to make a unique move and stay for some time in Michael’s old room at Hayvenhurst property in California.
This gave rise to a dramatic change. It was one thing to research and study the life of his uncle, but it was another to feel this environment on oneself. Pretty soon, it stopped being a rehearsal and became a part of daily life. While other actors tend to leave their roles immediately after filming is completed, Jaafar could not do this.
When he stepped outside this room, the transformation went further than he expected. Winning the role. The audition was brutal and only one performer managed to cross the finish line. Thousands and thousands of talented young actors fought for the right to interpret Michael Jackson’s performance.
Some actors watched Michael’s interviews. Others were trying to remember and repeat every step of Michael. However, there were still many people who believed that Jaafar would have an easier path because of his surname. DO YOU LOVE INDEED, JAAFAR ALSO HAD TO PARTICIPATE IN THE casting and show his skills.
Jaafar had not received any additional privileges. If he really wanted to get a role of Michael, he would have to work hard on it. So, he did not have any other choice. Jaafar studied all moves and expressions of Michael Jackson. He also practiced every movement between steps, which was very difficult as millions of Michael’s fans were familiar with his performance.
Nevertheless, after Jaafar appeared in the frame, everything changed. Directors did not see any more Michael’s nephew, but a young man whom they needed. Forging his own path. The iconic name did the trick, but it was not enough for Jaafar. He needed to go out on his own. In an exclusive interview during the promotion of his Got Me Singing with RTL of Germany in 2019, fans got to know Jaafar Jackson who looked comfortable in his own skin.
Asked about his favorite tune, he mentioned Misty by Johnny Mathis. What’s your What’s your favorite song in general? Um Favorite song in general, Misty by Johnny On request to sing the same, he chuckled saying that he had forgotten all its lyrics. And then came the personal part where he revealed that he was happily married for quite some time now and expressed his love for animals like the dogs that he had and his pet snake.
Very ordinary as as you know, a nephew hanging out their uncle, but for me it was I just I have such a big family, so What followed next was an unexpected fact which revealed something deeper inside him. As Jaafar grew up being born into a family with fame, he did not feel under pressure at all.

Rather, his dream before entering the field of singing was of becoming a golfer. Building his own sound. The easier option lay in front of him. However, Jaafar took the harder path by refusing to lean on his surname and making his music uniquely his own. In 2019, he released his first single under his real name, which is Got Me Singing.
The R&ampB single displayed soulful vocals without mimicking any particular artist’s singing mannerisms or style. Indeed, Jaafar never sought to be imitative. On the contrary, he made a point out of letting people know who he was as an artist by focusing on the old-school soul and R&ampB songs instead of trending topics and themes.
Jaafar made sure that his works were never in the news. Unlike some artists of this age, Jaafar preferred to develop himself as an artist and as a person rather than being in everyone’s spotlight. For that reason, he was working hard at perfecting his artistry through composing, producing, and learning as much as possible.
It seems like it is going to pay off soon. Wembley’s big test and it was time. He had finished practicing, but could see that it was time for the lights to shine on him now, and he was no longer able to train in private any more than before. It would be his toughest test of all in the making of the film.
He had to perform once again the 1988 performance of Human Nature from Wembley Stadium, which was done by his father, and this was no ordinary test. Music fans had known that performance for many, many years. They all memorized everything about the routine and would have expected nothing less than what their father had delivered then from his son.
That was the challenge which was now facing him. It did not matter that he shared a very famous name. His movements had to feel real, had to be authentic in every way while still paying tribute to a performance they all knew very well, and soon the big test would come to him. Finding Michael’s voice and but what really was tough was the voice. As soon as he accepted to play Michael Jackson, he realized that some lines are just not enough, even for someone as famous as Jaafar Jackson is, people all over the globe could recognize Michael Jackson’s voice at once, but Jaafar wanted it right.
He put a lot of efforts into practicing and watching. All Michael’s recorded interviews, songs, speeches were analyzed by him. It took a lot of time before Jaafar was able to grasp the peculiar soft sound of the voice of his ancestor. He paid attention to the way his rhythm was unique and peculiar, and the way simple words were pronounced with emotion in a very peculiar manner by Michael.
Jaafar Jackson learned to breathe correctly, learned Michael’s special timing, his voice intonation and delivery. And when the sound was no longer resembling an impersonation, but seemed to possess emotion, then it was done. But Jaafar did much more while learning Michael’s voice.
Mastering the magic. One step involved legendary significance. The move Jaafar Jackson knew he could never take lightly was the legendary moonwalk invented by his elder brother, Michael Jackson. It was arguably the most famous dancing step of its time across the globe, and Jaafar wanted nothing to get wrong.
Each and every minute step required his total focus. Even the briefest pause had to be taken into consideration carefully. Everybody had a very good idea of what was expected from the beginning. The pressure of performing such an iconic dance move under everyone’s watchful eye was hard to disregard. Shouldn’t be too forced.
It’s natural. It’s a flow. But there was nothing else for Jaafar to do but practice it endlessly, and slowly but surely, all of the steps became familiar and natural to him. He didn’t want to perform a mere imitation of the step on the screen. He wanted to convince people that everything about the moment was believable.
Finally, the hardest part of his preparation process was accomplished. Beyond the imitation. One choice distinguished a performance from a mere impression. Since the beginning of his preparation for his performance, Jaafar Jackson recognized that imitating Michael Jackson in performing was insufficient. Just like his uncle did, Jaafar Jackson realized that understanding of a performance is an important step in making it alive.
That is why Jaafar went further. It was not enough for him to learn moves. He delved into the rhythm, emotions, and meaning of the performance. Combining acting and performing proved to be the most challenging task for Jaafar. Too much attention paid to any side would lead to weakness of another.
That is why every aspect had to be coordinated properly. While trying not to limit himself to copying only popular and unique moments in Michael Jackson’s life, he tried to depict all the facets of the legendary performer’s personality. There were very high demands from audiences around the world to show the real talent and humanity of Michael.

Two years of transformation. Jaafar needed to leave his old self behind. Once he accepted the role, there was no turning back. Two years of intense training were going to take place starting from then on. There were no compromises and no excuses. The man spent hours and hours working hard to learn Michael’s unique mannerism in every aspect.
All sorts of techniques were hard to learn and sometimes progressed very slowly. Whenever he found something he did not know yet or could not do, he was determined to do whatever was necessary to make it happen. The man was not trying to replicate his uncle’s acting style. Everything that he did on stage had to look genuine.
It could not be done artificially. The process of becoming the actor was extremely painful, yet it was very effective. Slowly but surely, the musician turned into an actor. After the two years passed, it was evident. Now, the main part had started. Stepping into destiny. Jaafar had to choose a safer road. However, for many years he has dedicated his efforts to his music career.
He produced his singles and built a name. As an actor, he did not have any plans to start with. All of a sudden, he was offered a role of one of the greatest musicians of all times, Michael Jackson, in the upcoming movie. The choice that Jaafar made was very hard for him. The decision was crucial for him.
Jaafar was not ready to take an easier way and stay at what he was good at. On the contrary, he decided to change his direction in life and started to participate in preparations for playing his character in the movie. It meant that there were no rehearsals left. It is not about taking any chances to become famous.
This was about taking responsibilities. There was a risk of changing his destiny, and Jaafar managed to do it. Secrets behind transformation. However, the greatest revelation didn’t occur in a dance studio. Rather, it occurred through pages of personal musings by Michael. In an interview for the Jennifer Hudson show in April 2026, while promoting Michael, Jaafar Jackson shared a unique aspect of his preparation routine.
Together with his co-stars, Colman Domingo and Juliano Valdi, who plays young Michael in the movie, Jaafar said that apart from his rehearsal work, he read Michael’s journals, written poems, and daily affirmations. These were the reflections which told about the way of thinking of a star. Put all my my heart and soul into it to really make them proud, but also to make my Uncle Michael proud.
It was not just about dancing the same moves or speaking in the same manner as the legend used to do it. Jaafar was eager to know the legend through and through. The role became even more emotional for the actors because they had to repeat what they have seen many times. However, knowing Michael was not all that Jaafar needed to do.
When the world judged. The waiting period ended, and there was no way of avoiding the pressure anymore. Once Lionsgate decided to release the first teaser for Michael, the situation changed considerably. In just a matter of minutes, the preview got millions of viewers around the globe.
This is when the anticipation became a global conversation on the internet. People rewatched everything, analyzed even the slightest movements and facial expressions, and started looking for every single detail. However, it was not only about the movie itself, but the ability of Jaafar Jackson to play the character in the manner worthy of Michael Jackson.
All in all for Jaafar, this kind of attention meant everything. It proved that he was being carefully monitored by millions of people across the globe. At this point, each of his moves was important. Everything mattered a lot at the moment. There was no place for mistakes, and it became obvious that the time of rehearsals had come to an end.
The director’s belief. Doubt can ruin a film even before the filming stops. For Antoine Fuqua, directing Michael was anything but easy. The stakes were very high. Each shot would receive a close examination, and each mistake could potentially influence the whole film. However, Fuqua understood something unique about Jaafar Jackson.
In the middle of rehearsal process, Fuqua was witnessing discipline, dedication, and preparation that couldn’t be mistaken. Level one, let’s go. That’s me. As time passed, Fuqua observed changes. Jaafar was no longer pretending to be Michael. Instead, Jaafar became someone embodying the character completely.
Fuqua was pushing him as hard as he could as he understood that Jaafar was able to do even more. Every push brought even more commitment to the project. Pressure never diminished because millions of fans were ready to compare any move or gesture with Michael. However, gradually doubt started to turn into confidence.
Even the director realized that the actor’s work turned into something truly special. From Jaafar to Michael. No more reflection of Jaafar Jackson on the screen. The change began taking shape. The first full makeup test proved to be another milestone. It took hours to put the proper amount of work to get all of the details right.
Everything had to be perfectly done to make it look real. Makeup artist Bill Corso, who won Oscar for his work, led the procedure and worked every prosthetic piece to fit Jaafar’s real face properly. They didn’t completely mask Jaafar Jackson, but only changed features which resembled Michael Jackson to emphasize those similarities.
It looked like the real person was not there anymore when dressed in full costume. The change achieved the extent leaving even the film crew members shocked. It turned to become a daily part of Jaafar’s routine. Taking the seat every morning and waiting for the change to happen step by step made it look like he wasn’t preparing himself anymore.
He was turning into a legend. The legacy felt alive. But there is also the performance which revives long gone feelings. The Jackson family had such a reaction seeing Jaafar Jackson completely embody Michael. It was not just a compliment from relatives, but from people who knew Michael not only through his fame and popularity, and not even through music, but personally.
Marlon Jackson noted that for him Jaafar does not look like Michael imitation. He looks like he embodied his very aura. Jackie Jackson told how the show was watched together with the brothers and how they felt emotional being reminded of Michael once again. That’s the emotion in the eyes.
So, you can only get that on a big screen. Tito Jackson said that similarity is hard to believe due to its extremely realistic nature. Prince Jackson also called this feeling of emotion quite strong as he understood how much responsibility the role entails. At the very least it became something more than a scene from a movie for them at at very moment.
But then, the whole world will experience the same feeling, too. So, what did you think? Pretty mind-blowing how Jaafar channeled the King of Pop, right? It honestly feels like Michael’s magic is still right here with us. Drop a comment below and tell me your favorite part of his transformation.
