Especially for this, I had to find a lot of things about my myself that to get comfortable with. What are your memories of your uncle? I remember just growing up and we would have family time, you know, he Michael would come over. We’d have wonderful times at Neverland and and just had playing hide and go seek, eating as much candy, going on rides, watching movies.

It was all fun. And if you miss a step, expect to be uh Michael asks you, “Would you cry if Joseph died?” What did Michael say after he asked you that question? He said he don’t know if he would or he wouldn’t. Do you think your father was too strict? Yes. No. He’s going to kill me.

Uh, when Jafar Jackson accepted the role of playing his legendary uncle, Michael Jackson, in the upcoming Michael movie, he knew he had big shoes to fill. This is your first movie role. You’re playing Michael Jackson. Okay, this is big. I knew how challenging this would be to take on playing Michael Jackson.

And it was not easy. Definitely wasn’t. There’s so many times I would wake up sore, be like, should I go rehearse? Should I just take a break and let the body relax? Then the other part of my mind like, no, what would Michael do? Let’s do it again. Yeah, I missed that. Yeah. Yeah. But learning Michael’s dance moves and famous performances was only part of the journey.

The harder part was understanding the man behind the music. As Michael’s brothers and sisters shared more stories about his childhood, it became clear that the King of Pop’s early years were filled with both happiness and sacrifice. He was different. He Well, Michael never really had that childhood thing that a lot of us had.

Uh he didn’t get to go out and play around and didn’t grow up. He didn’t he never grew up. And and I was just thinking about that with with a friend of mine. I said to my friend, you know, my brother never went to a bar. He’s never been able to walk into a lounge or just say, “Give me a beer or whatever.

” His life was so different in in a lot of ways. How often would he beat you? Too much. Would he only use a belt? Hearing these family memories helps fans understand why playing Michael was such an emotional experience for Jafar. The Jackson family story began in a small house at 2300 Jackson Street in Gary, Indiana.

It was a tiny two-bedroom home where nine children and their parents lived together. There was very little space, but the family remembers those years with love. The boys shared bunk beds. The girls slept in the living room. And everyone learned to share everything they had. 2300 Jackson Street, right on the corner.

These little this little twobedroom house. This two bedroomedroom house with nine kids. We had triple bunk beds, triple deck. And uh triple deck. Yeah. Uh Marlin and Michael slept together. I slept. What you mean? And uh Randy wasn’t born yet, so Jackie had his own bed. Uh Jackie, go ahead. I used to get all the u showers.

All the showers, the droppings, the showers. I get all the showers, you know. We slept in the living room, the girls did, and we had a couch that led out into a bed, and we shared the bed. Janet used to sleep literally on my stomach. Michael was one of the youngest children and from the beginning he stood out.

His mother, Catherine Jackson, watched him closely and quietly said, “He’s got rhythm.” At that moment, no one realized they were watching the beginning of one of the greatest entertainers in history. Michael was just wanting to be in the group and we said, “You’re too young.

” One day uh like a year or two later, we hear Michael singing a a little thing in kindergarten singing Climb Every Mountain in in the in the school uh performance and uh he tore it up, man. We couldn’t believe our mouths flew open. Couldn’t believe that was our brother up there. Michael started coming and you still love him.

All of a sudden, Mike Allen, Michael start coming out doing this James Brown sort of thing, you know. I said, “Wait a minute. James Brown and spinning the dance. He should be on the front cuz he’s doing all his dancing. You know what I’m saying? The little bitty dude, the lone peanut head.

You know, [laughter] I was the lead singer first. When he started singing and he started watching James Brown and Joe Tex and all these people and and Sammy Davis and Jackie Wilson, it was over. He he could watch something and do it. And that’s how he patterned himself. They were not learning music in expensive studios. They were simply enjoying each other’s company at home.

Everything changed when Tito secretly played his father’s guitar and accidentally broke one of its strings. Instead of throwing the guitar away, Joseph [snorts] Jackson asked Tito to show him what he had learned. Soon, the other brothers joined in by singing, and Joseph realized his children had something special. Tito was sneaking in the closet playing my father’s guitar, and then he broke one of the strings.

My father came home and saw what would have happened. So he said, “Who played my guitar?” And Tito said, “I did.” So he said, “Well, show me what you know how to do.” So we started playing the guitar and then we started singing. And that’s how it all started. From that point on, he started taking money supposed to been to repair the house, putting it to us with equipment and this and that.

We do the music. We were serious about doing the music cuz we had concerts. I mean, show not concert, but shows to do around town. Mhm. And so all the all the kids would come around the windows and stand around the windows and peek around the windows just watch us perform. That was our audience.

They would all be in the windows trying to it was crowded around our house just to watch us perform. That was our audience at the time. From that day forward, rehearsals became part of everyday life. Music was no longer just fun. It became a serious commitment. The siblings say their father rehearsed them constantly. Every song had to be perfect.

Every dance move had to be sharp. Joseph believed hard work would give his children a better future, so he pushed them every single day. The rehearsals were long and sometimes exhausting, but they slowly transformed the Jackson brothers into talented performers. My childhood was completely taken away from me. There was no Christmas.

There was no birthdays. Those were exchanged for hard work, struggle, and pain and eventual material and professional success. But as an awful price, I cannot recreate that part of my life. And that’s why I love children and learn so much from being around them. I realized that many of our world’s problems today, from the inner city crime to largecale wars and terrorism and our overcrowded prisons are a result of the fact that children have had their childhood stolen from them.

Michael later admitted many times that he never had a normal childhood. While other children were riding bicycles, playing sports, or spending weekends with friends, Michael spent nearly every day rehearsing, traveling, and performing. His brothers explained that their parents kept them very protected. They were rarely allowed to visit friends or stay overnight anywhere because their father wanted to know exactly where they were at all times.

As their fame grew, life became even stricter. After concerts, Joseph would send the boys straight to their hotel rooms. Security guards stood outside the doors, and every night, someone checked the rooms to make sure no one had left. Michael often spoke about missing out on the simple joys of childhood. According to Tito, Michael once said he never wanted another child to grow up the way he did because he felt he had missed so much.

He wanted to ride bikes, play games, and simply be a kid. Those words still touch fans today because they remind everyone that fame often comes with hidden sacrifices. One of the most talked about parts of Michael’s childhood is his relationship with his father, Joseph Jackson. Michael openly admitted that he was sometimes frightened of his father’s discipline.

However, his brothers have shared their own perspective. They say Joseph was very strict, but they believe he was raising his children the way many parents did during that time. While they admit they received spankings and strict discipline, they also believe Joseph’s goal was to prepare them for life and keep them focused.

Each sibling remembers those years differently, showing that every child experiences family life in their own way. Even so, they agree that Michael carried those experiences differently. He remained a child at heart throughout his entire life. He loved games, laughter, amusement parks, and seeing children smile.

Many believe he was trying to give other children the kind of carefree childhood he always wished he had experienced himself. As Jaffar Jackson prepared to play Michael, he wasn’t just learning dance routines or studying famous concerts. He was discovering the little boy behind the legend.

The child who danced beside a washing machine, made his family laugh with funny faces, sang with his mother in the kitchen, and worked tirelessly while sacrificing many of the simple joys of growing up.
